Introduction

This is a merged and updated collection of various small mods or concepts, with a focus on compatibility and fitting seamlessly with the vanilla game. This is intended as a partner to Essential DLC Enhancements Merged.

Whilst the idea of a merged collection isn't new, this mod aims to only include uncontroversial and vanilla-friendly concepts, such that it will be suitable to use in any load order. No balance changes, no scope creep, and no questionable inclusions.

Also, no unnecessary Script Runner.

Description

Below is a list of other mods included in this collection, for which permissions were either open or have been received from the original authors. I highly recommend endorsing the originals to give the authors their due credit.

Included Mods

New Features (all by PushTheWinButton)

  • Disguises are now optional. When you equip a faction outfit, you will be presented with an option that asks if you would like to disguise yourself. Selecting "No" will not enable the disguise, allowing you to wear faction armour without getting attacked by the faction's enemies. Selecting "Yes" will make disguises work as normal.
  • You can now give donations to the Followers of the Apocalypse as a repeatable way of gaining good karma. Either speak to Julie Farkas, who has some fully-voiced lines, or use the donation box on the table near the main gate of the Old Mormon Fort. Two notes have been added to remind you of this feature. You will also gain karma for the one-off vanilla donation you can make to Doctor Usanagi, for consistency. In the vanilla game, the only repeatable way to earn positive karma was to kill Fiends, Powder Gangers, or Ghouls (removed by YUP), and the amount gained was very small, so redemption wasn't really possible. This new feature now fully rounds out the karma system.
  • Disguise equip and unequip messages have been changed to less intrusive corner messages (from Simple Reputation and Disguises).
  • Restored some Escaped Convicts in Primm that were cut in the final game (from Simple Reputation and Disguises).
  • Restored reputation for Primm. All events related to the town will award logical reputation (from Simple Reputation and Disguises).
  • Decreased the infamy for killing and stealing, to be more balanced compared to the reputation loss for quest actions. In the vanilla game, killing a faction member gave more infamy that the worst possible quest-related action, including frying the entire NCR encampment at Helios One (from Simple Reputation and Disguises).
  • The radio in the Novac Motel Room will now play Radio New Vegas. In vanilla, it is tuned to the static Repconn launch channel.
  • Black Blood Sausage: recipe now only visible if you have the Them's Good Eatin' perk.
  • Thick Red Paste: recipe now only visible if you have the Them's Good Eatin' perk.
  • Added the functionality of the now-removed Barton Thorn Acts Normally mod. Barton Thorn will now approach the player and ask for help, and will have his weapon drawn when he ambushes the player. This new implementation uses a trigger box instead of a quest script, and also checks if Barton has already talked to the player, to prevent him asking for help twice.
  • The Mojave Wasteland Ed-E will not be able to craft items or receive any of the other perk-related benefits of the Lonesome Road Ed-E until after Lonesome Road is completed. This stops Ed-E from devaluing the crafting skills of Raul and Veronica, despite being the easiest to recruit companion in the game.
  • Faction reputation assigned to map markers will now be updated if the faction that controls the location changes due to story events. Covers Goodpsrings, Helios One, Nelson, NCRCF, and Primm.
  • Added the option to display a notification when near a skill book, to help in collecting them. The skill book will also glow for a short period after the notification.

Logic and Consistency Fixes Changes:

Spoiler:
Show

  • Removed change to Fiery Purgative sound (now in YUP)
  • Removed weightless unplayable ammo (now in YUP)
  • Removed ownership changes for Doc Mitchell's stuff (covered more cleanly in the included version of Mass Ownership Tweaks)
  • Removed duplicate changes included in Harvestable Cave Fungus
  • Removed the requirement to have a Jar of Cloud Residue for the Sierra Madre Martini, Cloud Kiss, and Ghost Sight recipes to be visible (inconsistent with how all other recipes are handled).
  • Removed the requirement to have Sacred Datura Root for Daturana, Datura Hide, amd Datura Antivenom to be visible (same as the above).
  • Removed the requirement to have Blood Sausage for the Black Blood Sausage recipe to be visible, and changed the recipe category back to food.
  • Removed the requirement to have Thin Red Paste for the Black Thick Red Paste recipe to be visible, and changed the recipe category back to food.
  • Removed the requirement to have Salient Green for the Battle Brew recipe to be visible.
  • Changed the category for Nightstalker Squeezin's back from Aid to Chems (it provides buffs like chems, and does not restore as much health as aid items do).
  • Included the change that allows the new Silver Rush guard to speak the same lines as the normal thugs (from Misc Gameplay Merge).
  • Removed changes to the Helios One map marker that were related to the Legion takeover. This is now covered by the new reactive map marker changes mentioned in the New Features section, which are implemented through a script instead.
  • Removed Map Marker changes that were duplicates of changes in Map Marker Reputation Fix.
  • Removed changes to Rotface's dialogue (now in YUP).

Feedback

If you have recommendations for mods that you think would be a good fit for this collection, please leave a comment and I'll find a way to manage the suggestions. If you are a mod author and would like your work added to this collection, or would like to help in maintaining it if I go AWOL, you are best contacting me on Discord.

Bear in mind that I set myself the rules below to try and prevent scope creep.

Spoiler:

The aim of the collection is to create a single, easy to install package that enhances the vanilla gameplay experience through numerous small changes that feel like they could have been part of the release game. This can include visual tweaks, minor bits of cut content, quality-of-life fixes, consistency fixes, etc.

  • Mods contained in the collection should be simple in scope and implementation.
  • The collection should 'feel vanilla' in terms of gameplay and aesthetics.
  • The collection should be suitable to use in any load order (within reason) in terms of compatibility and gameplay consistency.
  • The collection should only include mods that are complete (as far as can be determined) and that are unlikely to be updated by the original author.
  • The collection should function without NVSE as far as is practicable.
  • Any features that don't conform to the above should be optional, either by being a separate plugin or controlled by an INI option.
  • The collection shall not use Script Runner (as scripts should be contained in the plugin).
  • The collection should not contain new mods so that the author gets due credit and exposure for their work, unless they expressly want to be included in the collection.
  • The collection shall not earn DP or promote donations in accordance with some authors' wishes.
  • It will be recommended that the file should be loaded high up in the load order, so that other mods overwrite it.
