About this mod

The White Hall Revisited is a modest upgrade to the interior of Dawnstar’s White Hall with an eye towards adding personality and spaces that make sense.

Dawnstar, The Pale Capital…a lackluster village with a lackluster longhouse.
If you're like me, you’ve probably expanded Dawnstar into a living, breathing hold capital city with mods like JK's Skyrim, Arthmoor’s Dawnstar, EtaC, Better Docks or any number of Dawnstar expansions.

Yet...yet the jarl's longhouse remains little more than a large empty room with a few space heaters and further, is decorated more like a warehouse than a seat of government. WHR exists to fix this incongruity.

What’s in the Box?
The White Hall Revisited is a modest overhaul…vanilla plus if you will. I’ve tried to only make changes that make sense in the context of Dawnstar’s
relationship to the world and for the people who live there.  WHR changes interior spaces to:

  • Make the longhouse into a real mead hall that hosts social and governmental events. Not really set up for warehouse parties anymore.
  • Give the main hall a unique personality reflecting Dawnstar’s trade and industry. Trophies from defeated pirates can be seen.
  • Introduce a lived-in atmosphere to individual rooms with items placed to match their occupants. Apparently they like sweets and card games in the WH,
  • Revamp the lighting to be as realistic as Skyrim’s engine allows. There are no fake lights in WHR.
  • Add more idle markers for both residents and followers to use.
  • Properly tweak the vanilla navmesh accommodating furniture changes.
  • Add “pets” for both the jarl and the court wizard.
  • Add clutter to further the idea that Dawnstar is an old, northern seaport and mining town.

That’s it!

Compatibility, Installation and Load Order:
WHR is an interior overhaul, so mods that change the interior of The White hall will be incompatible. WHR has USSEP as a requirement to make the changes to the workroom make sense for Bulfrek’s sleeping space.

External overhauls like Arthmnoor’s Dawnstar, JK’s Skyrim and ETaC are compatible. Texture and mesh replacers that retain vanilla dimensions are compatible. NPCs have not been edited, so NPC replacers are compatible. COTN-Dawnstar is NOT compatible as it alters the interior of the White Hall.

Install with a mod manager as normal. You may install or remove this mod at any time, but requires a cell reset if you’ve visited the White Hall previously. This mod should be VR compatible, but I don't know for sure.

Lighting Mods:
My lighting philosophy is informed by ELE and RLS. As such, WHR has its own lighting template, its own imagespace, and contains no fake lights. Patches (when needed) have been included for the major lighting mods.

Other Mods:
I'm happy to make patches for mods not listed below.

  • AI Overhaul: Load AFTER The White Hall Revisited. No patch needed.
  • NPC Replacers: Load them after WHR.
  • A patch for Haladoon's Dogs that disables the jarl’s dog from that mod in favor of the one in WHR is included. Load the patch after WHR and HD.
  • Patch for both The Great Cities - Minor Cities and Towns and The Great City of Dawnstar mods. Fits WHR to GC's layout plus adds clutter to the new longhouse, extends the vanilla navmesh to the new longhouse and a few other surprises. Load WHR and its GC patch after GC.
  • NEW! A patch for Bears of the North makes its meshes play nice in WHR. Load it after both mods.

Postscript:

I hope you enjoy this mod and that it will become a part of your load order! I’m open for constructive criticism and suggestions on how to improve. I’m not here for abuse tho, so if you don’t like my work, please remove it and move on.

Made with The Creation Kit (with Nukem's SSE CreationKit Fixes and PhysicsFish's TweakedCreation Kit ini), xEdit, Nifskope, Cathedral Assets Optimizer, Photoshop and the Intel DDS plugin. FOMOD created with Wenderer's FOMOD Creation Tool.

All assets have been run through Cathedral Assets Optimizer to update meshes to SSE and compress textures with BC7. All plugins have been cleaned in xEdit and loaded in Wrye Bash to avoid any issues.

Screenshots were taken without a lighting mod and a lightly tweaked installation of SilentHorizons ENB by LonelyKitsuune using the Guillemot LUT at 50% intensity.
