The Brotherhood of Old is a quest mod for Skyrim, taking place after the final quest in the original Dark Brotherhood questline. This 24 quest epic will take you all across the land of Skyrim, as you try and rebuild the Brotherhood and strengthen it against future attacks.

Fixed compatibility issues with the Bittercup creation.
Fixed an issue with the main game quest "Diplomatic Immunity" being broken by the Dead Drop quest at the Thalmor Embassy if you have not done the main game quest first.
Fixed an issue where Arquen's clue in the Markarth Sanctuary would fall through the floor, never to be seen again.
Fixed a ground gap in Covenstead Crypt.
Finally replaced the Mephala statue in the Fringe Sanctum thanks to Mandragorasprouts' excellent work. The original was supposed to be temporary but I never had anything to replace it with.
Drastically reduced the size of the Fringe Sanctum, removing the large portion of blocked off sections from early development that are no longer in use. Also gave the place a visual overhaul.
Changed Vala's hair to something more high resolution.

Made Alisanne Dupre look more like her official TES Legends artwork. At the time of her NPC creation, we did not know what she looked like, so I made her appearance up.
Added some missing audio files, voiced using xVASynth. These new lines are completely AI generated, but sound passable enough.
Replaced Alisanne Dupre's audio with xVASynth generated audio.
Re-added audio files for J'Zakar and M'Jirra that were accidentally left out of the previous version.
Moved the Fringe Sanctum slightly off to the side of its previous location.
Fixed an issue where the innkeeper in the Inn of Lost Souls would sleep in any bed he wanted to.
Navmeshed the Winterhold Sanctuary. I forgot to do it when I remade it. (Oops)
Made some visual changes to the Chamber of Sorrows.
Fixed the broken collision on the languorwine antidote bottle. It uses the pest poison mesh from a thieves guild quest, which apparently Bethesda never gave proper collision to, so it rolled around all over the place instead of sitting like a normal potion bottle should. Also, the UV mapping on it was terrible, so I fixed that too and gave it a new texture.
Made the Markarth Sanctuary secret entrance easier to get into from the outside.
Made the refit Markarth Sanctuary brighter.
Set the NPCs inside the Abandoned Shack to be disabled when the mod starts.
Fixed spelling errors in Wulf Aerius's journals.
Fixed an issue where Babette was wearing the male version of the Black Hand Robes.

Fixed the inventory model for the Languorwine Blade. It is now facing the right way in the inventory.
Changed all of the NPC death scripts to account for deaths that aren't at the hands of the player.
Changed Vala's follower quest back to starting at the end of the mod. In the last update, I made it so she could become a follower much earlier on, but it turned out to be causing compatibility issues with some of the mod's quests. So now in order for Vala to become your follower, you have to finish the mod first.
Added a new sidequest for Azuk that becomes available after you complete An Orc Walks into a Bar.
Azuk can now become your follower after the new sidequest is completed.
M'Jirra and J'Zakar can now become your followers after The Cults of Darkness is completed. You initiate the following with M'Jirra and J'Zakar tags along.

Fixed the video because it wasn't playing in Special Edition. Turns out the issue was because it was packed in the BSA. When the video is unpacked it plays just fine.
Changed it so you have to meet Azuk at the Silver-Blood Inn instead of following him there.
Made the 3 Khajiit part of the Markarth crime faction, so you will get a bounty from attacking and/or killing them. Previously, the intention was that no one would care if they were attacked or killed since they are breaking the law by illegally being in the city, but this doesn't make any sense since Azuk gets arrested for killing one of them.
Made the 3 Khajiit help friends and allies, so they will no longer just sit there and watch as their friend gets murdered.
Fixed an issue where the Silver-Blood Inn would stay in the quest state and never revert back to normal for some players.
Fixed an issue where Azuk would not pick up the skull in Smuggler's Hollow.
Adjusted how the armor reward is handled. It will now be on a table instead of in a chest.
Previously the armor was not being properly removed from the chest, causing the player to be able to take it even if it was given away.

Made changes to dialogue in the quest "The Cults of Darkness" to make the player less all-knowing.
Made the Khajiit twins awake during the beginning of "The Cults of Darkness" since them being asleep just seemed to break things.
Moved the interaction with Banus Alor outside of the Fringe Sanctum in "The Cults of Darkness" to the inside to avoid issues with the overworld, such as possible animal attacks and character pathing issues. Also made some adjustments to this interaction to make it flow better.
Made some slight QOL changes to the scene in "The Cults of Darkness" with Nazir and the Khajiit Twins.
Adjusted the scene in "The Cults of Darkness" where everyone meets in the torture chamber so that Nazir only starts talking when he gets to the room. Previously he started speaking on his way to the room, which was not the intention.
Moved the encounter with Clendil in "The Cults of Darkness" to the inside of the Fringe Sanctum.
Made the jail cell door inside the Fringe Sanctum close by itself when the player steps inside the cell.
Made the distance that Vhosek will forcegreet the player when he arrives at the Fringe Sanctum jail larger. Previously there was an issue where he would not automatically speak to you because he would be standing too far away from the trigger radius, which caused you to have to speak to him manually.
Fixed an issue where the Crimson Scars would not leave the Fringe Sanctum after the jail scene.
Fixed the issue where nothing happened after reviving Percius Crito with the antidote.

Completely reworked Vala's follower actions to follow the "Creating Custom Follower Framework" by CrEaToXx, Matthiaswag and Jac. In addition to being a cleaner, more modern solution, this fixed an issue where when she was told to wait, she would never be able to follow you again.

Made Banus Alor's cousin into a male instead of female so that the voice makes more sense when he possesses the body.
Added reward items for completing the bonus conditions in quests, instead of just getting more gold.
Fixed an issue with the Torch of the Black Hand texture causing it to look strange in Special Edition.
Improved the texture and mesh for the Torch of the Black Hand. It now looks better, and fits better in the hand.
Fixed an issue where the Shadowhunt reward would have a spell glow effect on it when held when it shouldn't have.
Fixed the enchantment on Shadowhunt. It wasn't working at all before but now it is.

Disabled the Cicero wounded marker in the Dawnstar Sanctuary at the start of the mod so that it can no longer be used by anyone's sandbox package.

Description: Betrayed by your own sister, the fate of the Dark Brotherhood rests upon the edge of a knife. You begin to rebuild the Brotherhood, adding in many assassins from all walks of life. Locked away within one of these acolytes, flows the blood of a Legendary Speaker from days passed. The secrets within their blood will change the Brotherhood forever.
As you mold this descendant into a weapon, the Brotherhood becomes respected throughout the land once more. But with this respect comes fear, and with that fear many come out of the woods to destroy the Brotherhood. A recently disbanded guild has reformed, deadlier than ever, and an old but unknown enemy has resurfaced, and between the two guilds they are dedicated to wiping out every trace of the Brotherhood.
The Brotherhood of Old is a quest mod for Skyrim, taking place after the final quest in the original Dark Brotherhood questline. This 24 quest epic will take you all across the land of Skyrim, as you try and rebuild the Brotherhood and strengthen it against future attacks. How will you deal with these new Brothers and Sisters? Will you be heartless and cold, doing only what is good for the Brotherhood as a whole? Will you be silent or cryptic, letting others fill in the gaps? Will you take the straightforward path, or will you put in a little extra effort and be rewarded proportionally? Will the Brotherhood fail under you, or will you make Sithis proud?

Install\Uninstall Instructions: Use your mod manager of choice or: Manual install: Place the contents of the zip file into your Skyrim Data folder. Usually located at "C:\Program Files\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data" unless you've changed the location. Sort your load order with LOOT.
To uninstall, just delete The Brotherhood of Old.esp, The Brotherhood of Old.bsa, & The Brotherhood of Old - Textures.bsa from your Data folder. Uninstalling after you've already started the mod on a save is NOT recommended.
How to Start:
You must have already completed the Dark Brotherhood questline in the main game. The quest "Hail Sithis!" should be in your list of completed quests. Once you've met this requirement, you will be contacted by a courier the next time you change locations (meaning, you traveled between areas. Fast traveling from Falkreath to Whiterun, for example.) You will be given a note called "Note From A Stranger" - Read it and the first quest called Rebirth will start.

Please read this before asking any questions. If you feel you have a bug to report, please submit a bug report after verifying that it is indeed a bug and not something mentioned here in the FAQ. Please do not PM me about any issues. I will not respond. That being said, here you will find answers to some common questions and concerns:
• Version 1.1.2 is the latest version and the most stable.
• "Can you put this on PS4?" No. You can thank the suits over at Sony for that one.
• "The courier isn't delivering the notes to me." This is a problem with your save game and needs to be sorted out independently. It is not an issue with the mod. There are a number of reasons why this could be happening, such as mod conflicts, load order issues, just to name a few.
• "So and so isn't appearing! What can I do?" First of all, don't panic. It is recommended to play through this mod on a new save, or a save that has relatively few mods active. The Brotherhood of Old is a very script heavy mod, and the Skyrim scripting engine has a hard time keeping up with everything going on when it's under heavy usage from other mods. You can still play this mod on your heavily modded saves, and most of the time you should be fine, but do be prepared to run into issues where certain NPCs aren't appearing, someone's glitching through the ground, you getting stuck because a quest stage is not firing, and so on. You can try running FallrimTools script cleaner on your saves, I've heard that fixes a lot of problems people are having.
• "Can I install this before I have completed the Dark Brotherhood questline?" Yes, you can.
• "Nothing happens when I hit Agnar Hollowleg with the Night's Shade Dagger. Is it possible to recruit him?" The dagger is designed to not work on him. This is a scripted event that is supposed to fail. Agnar will never join the Dark Brotherhood under any circumstances. Believe me, I've tried to convince him and he wasn't having any of it.
• "Can I use this if I've done the "Destroy the Dark Brotherhood!" quest?" No, sorry. It's not possible at this time.
• "Can I use console commands to skip [insert part here]? Can you tell me what the stage ID is?" No. You're breaking things. Stop breaking things. If you feel you've run into an issue, make a bug report for the issue you're experiencing. Make sure to include as much detail as possible, including what stage you're currently on in the quest you're doing. I cannot help you if you can't provide me with the necessary information. Please look through the bug reports to see if someone has already reported your issue first, however.
• "This mod adds something in the way of something your mod adds. What can I do?" I unfortunately don't have time to make a patch for every little incompatibility there may be. If you run into something, please inform me about it and I will add it to the incompatibilities list. There may already be a patch for your issue. If not, you are free to make and post one yourself. Please let me know if you've done so.
• "Why haven't you answered my question? Did you get my PM. PLS RESPOND THX" I'm a one man team. I'm handling everything myself. I work a full time job in addition to numerous other projects and obligations. I physically do not have the time or manpower to get back to each and every one of you. There are a lot of you and only one me. Please follow the appropriate steps if you run into an issue before heading to the comments and my private messages. I don't mean to sound rude... that's just how things are. Thank you for the support. I appreciate you checking out my work.
