Undeath Classical Lichdom 
Classical Lichdom is an expansion for Undeath that fixes multiple severe bugs with the mod, while also offering a comprehensive but unobtrusive overhaul of the lich experience. It is a third-party update that seeks to provide the definitive Undeath experience.

The Cause dlc is required only for the optional ayleid lich patch.

Not compatible with Immersive Lichdom.

True Immortality - Death Alternative For Liches

Undeath's Dark Resurgence ability has been reworked and simplified, granting functional immortality once the player attains lichdom. When you die as a lich, you resurrect at your phylactery.

Lich Form Improvements - Access Spell Menu in Lich Form

You are no longer restricted to a predetermined spell selection. Access the full spell menu in lich form by pressing your sneak key (default CTRL) to utilize your full arsenal of spells and decide your own playstyle. Spell change animation has also been sped up. Bound spells do not work in lich form because the dragon priest animations dont support them.

Favorites menu is accessible in lich form, although weapons remain unusable in the form. Keybind for favorites menu is set in mcm.
Pressing C in lich form allows you to reequip your staff, reequip death grip, or toggle between the two. (Key bindings customizable in mcm)
Lich form is now able to jump.

The Path Of Lichdom
Undeath abilities and passives have been entirely reworked. A lich has limitless magical horizons, but power comes at a price: while liches are spellcasters of unparalleled aptitude, they suffer the detrimental effects of being undead. After attaining lichdom, you receive the following abilities.

Conventional healing spells do not heal you
Food and healing potions have no effect, while other potions have 50% reduced efficacy and duration.

*You gain Transcendence after resurrecting at your phylactery 3 times.

Immediately gain access to the following spells after lichdom:


Ice Coffin: A spear of ice that deal 60 points to health and stamina. Targets are briefly encased in ice
Necrotic Rejuvenation: Heals the caster 12 points a second, if the caster is undead.
Sacrifice Thrall: Return a reanimated minion to death and heal for 25% of its health.
Poison Shroud: For 60 seconds, opponents in melee range take 8 points Poison damage per second.
Seed Of Pestilence: Afflict an undead target with a plague that spreads to living targets, doing 5 disease damage per second to health and stamina for 30 seconds.
True Sight: See what others cannot see. Vision in the dark is improved for 60 seconds.



Simple Phylactery Progression System

Classical Lichdom offers an intuitive progression system. Activate your phylactery to absorb filled black soul gems and empower your lich. Souls will unlock new abilities and incrementally improve existing abilities. You may feed up to 50 souls into your phylactery.

Magicka Flood(1): Gain 50 magicka. For each soul fed to your phylactery, gain an additional 4 magicka. Spells in lich form last 0.5% longer for each soul fed. 
Lich Barrier(2): For each soul fed to your phylactery, gain 2 armor rating and 0.5% spell absorption, with an additional 0.5% in lich form.
Bane of Life (3): Learn Bane of Life
Necromantic Mastery(5): Necrotic Rejuvenation, Siphon Life, and Death grip are 50% more effective. 
Conduit (8): In lich form, if you are wielding a staff, spells last 10% longer, while magicka regenerates 1% faster for each soul fed to your phylactery. 
Flesh Smith (10): Physical resistances increase. You are now 25% resistant to non-silver melee weapons and 50% resistant to arrow attacks.
Flesh Smith(12): Lich form is faster, stronger and more durable
Flesh Smith(15)Fire Weakness is reduced to 50% 
Visions Of Apocrypha(18): Transcendence grants 5% faster experience gain. Transcendence grants an extra skill point when reading a skill book.
Mind Flay (20): Learn Mind Flay
Enslave Mind (22): Learn Enslave Mind
A God Amongst Men(25): Your lich form is no longer hated and feared by NPCs.
Enslave Undead (30): Learn Enslave Undead
Mannimarco’s Will(35): Once every 8 days, when the Shade of the Revenant shines upon an altar, offer a filled black soul gem to the altar to receive a Scroll Of Mannimarco's Will, increasing your summon limit by 1 for 2 hours. Scrolls may stack up to 12 times.

Bane of LifeRestore 24 health per second to undead allies, and deal 12 health per second to living enemies.
Mind Flay
Compare base magicka with your target. If you have more magicka, briefly stun your target and disable them from casting spells for 20 seconds.
Enslave MindEnslave a living target and put them under your command. Enslaved targets take 1 point of damage per second.
Enslave UndeadPut an undead creature of any level under your command for 45 seconds.
Mass ReanimateReanimate all dead in the immediate area to fight for you for 60 seconds.
Summon Diilonthur: Summon a flying skeletal dragon for 90 seconds.
Devour SoulIf your target is mortal, cast soul trap on them, then rip out and devour their soul. You restore health equivalent to 10% of your target's health. Targets above 1000 health resist this spell.


* "perk names" only exist here for the sake of readability. There are no such perk names in the actual system; abilities are updated automatically depending on soul threshold. 




Lich Form Customization


Once you unlock 25 souls, you may change the appearance of your lich at your phylactery. Customize the color of your lich, become a ghostly nether lich, or assume the form of a dragon priest or an Ayleid lich. 'The Cause' DLC from Anniversary Edition/Creation Club is required to take on an Ayleid lich form.  


Immersive Start
*new in version 3.60!*

Questline no longer starts automatically on level up. When you reach level 30, a note left behind by a traveler will spawn at Markarth's Silver-Blood Inn. Read it to begin Undeath. Immersive start can be toggled in MCM.

Undeath Fixes and Improvements

Classical Lichdom fixes multiple issues of varying significance in Undeath, and also provides a few quality of life improvements for a more polished experience of the questline.

-Fixed lich transformations taking obscenely long because the script called vampire and werewolf cure functions without proper conditions set up. Transformation now takes ~1 second instead of 5-10 seconds.

-Reading the "Barrows of the Mountains" book now lets you travel in and out of Dragontail Mountain. In the base mod, the location is only accessible by fast travel.

-Rewrote quest scripts to remove unneeded usage of OnUpdate() loops; improved performance and stability (lower likelihood of questlines breaking) 

-Other script optimizations where relevant

-Fixed many issues related to the shade of the revenant; rewrote entire feature.

-Fixed bug where undeath passive was applied twice in lich form, causing resist frost and fire weakness to double their intended value.

-Fixed interaction that can cause constant health drain, because certain passive effects were set to a health value modifier with 0 magnitude.

-Fixed blackface with undeath npcs due to facegen not being generated.

-Fixed Arkay The Enemy quest not completing if you choose to free the priest (Ironically this is the quest choice that locks the player out of the lich path)

-Fixed bug where Unbind Soul FX is stuck on player after ritual due to rogue equipability on unbind soul. 

-Fixed broker message being stuck in quest log.

-Fixed broker shack cell being enterable before you receive her quest.

-Fixed item ownership and npcs respawning in ravernscorn spire

-Fixed dragon priests being invisible in coffin due to wild edit to dragon priest race in undeath.esp

-Fixed undeath overwriting USSEP fixed scripts because the mod packaged base game scripts into the mod by mistake. 

-Fixed undeath bug where Priest of Arkay spawns in standing because his sit marker is occupied by a necromancer.

-Fixed players not getting a proper lich model and being stuck as a shade (this is a rare bug that only happens when players completely break questline scripts)

-Staff of the Worm Lord is now acquirable - defeat the lich in Scourg Barrow to obtain the artifact. 

-Staff of the Worm Lord has a unique mesh and textures courtesy of HeirOfTheSeptims.

-Lich change spell animation sped up from taking 3 seconds to less than 1 second.

-The lich ritual now gives you a debug notification when you attempt it as a vampire to prevent confusion. 

-Lich ritual now enables soul cairn access.

-Necromantic Altar requirements changed from 100 Enchanting to 50 Enchanting and 75 conjuration by default. Skill requirements are configurable in the MCM.

-DLC dragon priest masks now visible in lich form, including Miraak's Mask

-Lich transformation will now remember staffs equipped on either hand, instead of just the right hand. If you had a staff on both hands, the right hand staff will take priority.

-The broker will always sell black pearls needed for the ritual, rather than 50% of the time. The broker will also stock some a few other items required for ritual recipes. 

-Alchemist chest during the "Infernal Alchemy" quest now contains a deathbell required to make Namira's Corrosion.

-Dark Pact effect simplified and fixed. Original effect was broken both mechanically and in terms of balance. Instead of additional summons, Dark Pact now grants increased damage to the living, at the cost of taking increased damage from the living.

-Fixed enemies respawning in Ravernscorn Spire

-Additional white color choice added, with textures courtesy of SpiritWarden. 

-Forwarded SSE waterflow data

-Poison spells from undeath rebalanced completely.

-All spells added by undeath have been removed from leveled lists. The poison spells will only be available by the broker or inside certain undeath dungeons.

-Improved lich resurrection fx 

-Mysticism keywords given to undeath poison spells. 

-Typo fixes.

-Injected ActorTypeLich keyword into Update.esm. ID => 01005912

-Lost Knowledge and the radiant black book quest can no longer send you to Undeath's black book location; this issue would have broken those minor quests.


 
Installation

SKSE64 is required.

A clean save without undeath installed is recommended but not necessary for installing versions 3.6+ of this mod, due to rewrite of undeath quest scripts. If you want to install this on an old save, clean your save with FallrimTools afterwards. Versions above 3.0 are entirely save-compatible with one another. Do not install this on savegames where you have used Immersive Lichdom or Undeath-The Ascension.

If you have "The Cause" Creation, download the optional patch to unlock an ayleid lich form. Do not delete or rename the dummy esp file because the plugin name is used as a check in the mod scripts - its esl tagged so it doesnt take up a plugin slot anyways. 

The Undeath Cleaner xedit script attached in optional downloads is a soft requirement. While is not required for this mod to function as intended, it is still highly recommended that you clean the base Undeath.esp with the script as Undeath's wild edits can create compatibility issues with other mods. 
To run the script, install the undeath cleaner script to your SSEEdit directory, placing the script in the 'Edit Scripts' folder. Load undeath.esp in SSEEdit, then click apply script on the Undeath.esp and select Hishy UndeathCleaner. Save the undeath esp after you run the script.


As the files are packed in a bsa, make sure you do not have any incompatible undeath plugin such as Immersive Lichdom or Ascension. 

Undeath and this mod should be loaded as high up in your load order as possible. Give other mods priority. Load all perk and spell mods after this mod.

Compatibility

Note: cleaning the undeath esp (with the attached script in optional files) is HEAVILY recommended, as it circumvents most compatibility issues with undeath.

Not compatible with any other undeath addon, including immersive lichdom and undeath ascension. Otherwise, this mod is compatible with everything else (that is compatible with undeath). 

Death alternative mods are fully compatible before the lich ritual. After the ritual you will have to disable those death alternative effects because they overlap with lich resurrection. Compatibility with Shadow of Skyrim is being worked on at the moment.


Undeath has a natural conflict with XMPSSE, if XPMSSE overwrites undeath, your lich will be invisible and/or the camera will be set to the floor. Install this mod if you are using XPMSSE. Strange Runes requires a skeleton patch, use the same patch linked previously, it works regardless of whether you have xpmsse or strange runes.

All perk and spell mods are fully compatible if the base Undeath.esp has been cleaned with the script. If you do not know how to use the script, make sure you load Undeath as high up in your load order as possible, i.e. right after USSEP. 
All perk and spell mods should be loaded after Undeath.esp.

Undeath Remastered - Facegen Data Patch is redundant with the latest version of Classical Lichdom, since I have also packed in undeath facegen files. However, its not necessary to uninstall the mod if you have it, since the CK generated facegen is the same.

Undeath Conjuration Absorb Fix is NOT needed if you clean the undeath esp with the script provided in optional files. Monster Race Crash Fix is irrelevant for Undeath.
Tainted Blood is NOT compatible, the patch on the tainted blood page does not work and will break my mod.

Undeath No Auto Quest Start is not compatible, you will end up receiving two quests. This mod has an integrated immersive start option.

Old versions of Improved Camera (Beta 3) will crash your game if you transform in first person. But the latest version of Improved Camera is compatible!

Falkreath Hauntings has severe navmesh conflicts with undeath and certain encounters from that mod will not work properly with undeath.

This mod also edits the minor quests Lost Knowledge and the radiant black book quest to prevent them from sending the player to Undeath's Apocrypha dungeon. Mods that edit those quest forms will require a simple compatibility patch.

If you want to integrate lich specific compatibility in your own mod, you can use the injected keyword "ActorTypeLich' with ID 01005912.




Recommended Mods

Undeath XMPSSE Strange Runes Patch - Universal skeleton.nif patch. The skeleton is universally compatible and can be installed even if you dont have the mods it patches for.
Dragon Priest Fix Behaviour Overhaul - Improves spellcasting behaviour in lichform and enables sprinting. Fixes invisible staff idle.
Enhanced Reanimation - Fixes engine-level bugs with vanilla reanimation. Partial fix for 'moonwalking' when you reanimate a previously ragdolled npc.
PO3 Tweaks - universal fix for conjuration spells being affected by spell absorption.
True Directional Movement - 360 movement for lich (projectile lockon is also a workaround for lich crosshair being inaccurate at the moment, which im trying to fix)
Strange Runes - eye candy
ENB Light Effect Shaders - eye candy
ENB Light for Undead Creatures - more eye candy, lich eyes glow with enb particle light.
Skeleton Replacer HD - Remesh and retexture for skeletal lich. 
NPC React To Necromancy - NPCs react to you bringing your 1000 Mass Reanimate zombies to town.

FAQ

My lich is invisible and/or my camera is set to the floor.

-Undeath's meshes are not loading, or Undeath's dragon priest skeleton nif is overwritten. Likely caused by XPMSSE. Install the XPMSSE patch to fix this issue.
You can also let simply let my skeleton.nif override xmpsse, as long as you do not use dragon priest sex mods that require the xpmsse skeleton. 

I cant start the undeath questline
-Questline starts when a skill increase event triggers when player is level 30 or above. If quest still doesnt start, save and load the save to start the quest.

Lich ritual is not working.
-You are doing things in the wrong order or quest scripts entirely broke in your game. Can also be caused by using the very outdated patch from Cut the Crap

There is a swirling purple visual effect on my character whenever i cast spells.
-Bug in Undeath that has been fixed by this mod. Update mod in MCM menu to fix the issue retroactively. 

I cant use X spell in lich form.

-Dragon priest animations do not support the casting type of the spell. Generally, shouts and bound weapons dont work. Spells with the "touch" delivery type also will not work. (I believe there are no equippable vanilla spells with this delivery type)

I am stuck in lich form and I cannot move.
-This happens when you try to equip a weapon in lich form, which entirely breaks the dragon priest skeleton. Transforming out of lich form will fix the issue. Pressing your death grip button (C by default) will automatically reequip the "Revert Form" power and allow you to transform out of lich form. 

Lich form random crashes.
-Not all lich form crashes are due to lich form, but lich form might become unstable due to mod conflicts. Generally, lich form in the SSE build of Undeath should not crash at all, but if it is crashing in a heavy load order, it might be a possible mod conflict. The game might crash if it tries to execute code that doesnt expect you to have a dragon priest skeleton. Make sure you have .Net Framework so that crashes can be diagnosed.

There have been some reports of Engarde creating issues/crashes with beast transformations, including lichform.

My character is silent when swinging weapons.
-Caused by a vanilla bug. After the player character enters bleedout, they might lose their voice. PC Headtracking and Voice Types has a fix for this bug. Nothing can be done on my end, though the mod has a convenient excuse for the player being silent - you are an undead lich after all!
 

How do I get to Dragontail Mountain if fast travel is disabled?
-Reading the 'Barrows of the Mountain' book will enable you to fast travel to and from the Mountain.

I cant change spell/access the spell menu in lich form
-If this issue is persistent, its a result of having incompatible undeath addons. If this happens randomly, its a temporary bug that happens when the game fails to register an animation event when transforming. Revert and transform back. 

I cant access the favorites menu in lich form
-The keybind hook for lich form favorites menu is separate from the normal one and defaults to Q. Rebind the key in your MCM. 

Is this compatible with Tainted Blood?
-No. Use this mod if you insist on being a vampire and a lich at the same time. Being a vampire and a lich at the same time is not recommended.

Can I do the werewolf/vampire questlines after I become a lich?
-Technically, yes, because ww/vamp is only removed each time you transform into a lich. Therefore, you can technically complete those questlines by not using the lich transformation while the questlines are in progress. However, from an immersion standpoint, doing the vampire and werewolf questlines as a lich makes absolutely zero sense, so I do not recommend doing the questlines unless you are a serious completionist. Alternatively, you may choose to finish the questlines before becoming a lich for a more sensible roleplay experience. The dawnguard side of the questline is not affected in any manner.

Is this compatible with Undeath Ascension?
-No, but the features of ascension have been ported to this mod

Is this compatible with Undeath Immersive Lichdom?
-No.

How does this compare to Ascension/Immersive Lichdom?
-Both of the older undeath forks are much buggier, less polished and do not address fundamental issues with undeath. You might encounter some serious bugs playing the other undeath forks. 

Should I use Classical Lichdom if I am using Undeath but I do not intend on becoming a lich?
-Yes. Classical Lichdom improves and fixes multiple bugs present in the Undeath questline, therefore it is recommended for a bugfree Undeath experience. Lich features only apply to liches (duh) and will not bloat or bug your game if you have not become a lich.

This is an updating small checklist for myself to add in minor details and quality of life improvements. 

Things to do for version 3.6
-refactor questline scripts to prevent necromancer kill count from failing. Scripts should check for each individual necromancer death as a failsafe. (done)
-Simplify lich barrier; make spell absorption exclusive to lich form (nope)
-immersive start for questline (note trigger/trigger at caravan) (done)
-remove antioch robe enchantment so that it can take custom enchantments (done)
