Overview

This mod provides KS Hairdos for all vanilla adult human, mer, and dremora NPCs in the base game and the Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and HearthFires DLC. This mod does not affect children, Khajiit, or Argonian NPCs. This mod does not change NPCs added by Creation Club content.

This mod also applies several other fixes to NPC head meshes - a similar set of fixes as Vanilla NPCs SSE Ruhmastered by Ruhadre.

Screenshots

Skyrim's built-in hairstyles looked blocky and unattractive even when Skyrim was released in 2011, and they look even worse now in comparison to recent games.

This mod should be thought of as a "vanilla-plus" improvement to the appearance of the vanilla NPCs. Use this mod as the foundation for improving NPC appearance, and then add other NPC appearance mods you like such as Bijin and Pandorable's.

In alignment with the "vanilla-plus" theme, the screenshots provided to illustrate the new NPC hairstyles were captured with a minimally-modded game - just this mod, and Vanilla NPCs Without Headgear ESL.

Requirements

This mod has no requirements other than Skyrim SE.

This mod does not require KS Hairdos. This mod includes copies of all the textures from KS Hairdos that it uses.

Load Order Placement

This mod includes three ESL-flagged ESP files. All three ESP files must be active in your load order.
  • KSHairVanilla1.esp
  • KSHairVanilla2.esp
  • KSHairVanilla3.esp

This mod's three ESP files should be listed as high as possible in your load order, and let all other mods override this mod.

If you use the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch (USSEP), then you should list this mod's three ESP files immediately after USSEP.

If you don't use USSEP, then list this mod's three ESP files after the ESM files in your load order.

Compatibility

This mod is designed for maximum compatibility with your load order and with other mods.

This mod includes three ESL-flagged ESP files, for minimal impact on your load order slots.

All three ESP files are empty, meaning they contain zero records. The ESP files only serve to load the corresponding BSA files.

This mod's NPC head meshes are packaged into BSA files, to enable those files to be easily overridden by any other mod that changes NPC appearance.

NPC record compatibility is the primary goal of this mod. This mod's NPC head meshes are 100% compatible with the vanilla NPC records. This mod does not include any override NPC records. This mod's NPC head meshes are a drop-in replacement for the vanilla head meshes.

This mod is compatible with KS Hairdos, but does not require KS Hairdos. This mod includes copies of all the textures from KS Hairdos that it uses, packaged into a BSA file.

This mod is compatible with any texture replacers for KS Hairdos, such as Salt and Wind - Rough Hair for KS Hairdos SE. This mod uses the same texture file paths as KS Hairdos, so any mod that replaces textures for KS Hairdos will also affect this mod.

Incompatibility

This mod is not compatible with Vanilla NPCs SSE Ruhmastered because the two mods make the same kinds of changes. Do not use the two mods together.

This mod is not compatible with any other mod that changes the built-in NPC head parts. For example, if you have a mod installed such as Shiva's Vanilla Hair Replacer, or VHR Vanilla Hair Replacer, then you will see the NPC dark head problem if you install this mod.

Other Recommended Mods

This mod does not change NPC headgear.

In order to see the new hairstyles on vanilla NPCs, you may want to install another mod that removes NPC headgear.

Another mod of mine, Vanilla NPCs Without Headgear ESL, is a good choice to use in a new game. (Already-spawned vanilla NPCs will continue to wear the headgear that they were already wearing.)
