II. Description:
CSO is a lua-based dynamic, customizable sound overhaul of the movement, combat, magic, and item sounds of Morrowind. Among its features are:
- Unique, varied terrain-based footstep sounds
- Complementing armor rattling sounds based on equipped items
- Additional effects for weather patterns such as rain
- Deathrattle tweak that prevents NPCs from finishing voice lines after death
- Diverse array of sounds for each weapon's behaviors
- Per-spell effect sound framework complete with failure and active effect noises
- New sounds for interacting with items
- Open/close sounds for looting corpses
- Journal update/new quest sounds
Through the MCM, CSO is easily customized to suit your audio preferences, but custom sounds may be installed simply by dropping any .wav file into the designated folders. This extends to spell effects, simply add a folder with the Spell Effect ID, fill with sounds following the existing examples, and the spell effect with have its own unique tracks. These may be in addition to the existing sounds, or replacers for them. If you wish to share your soundpack here on the Nexus or elsewhere, please consult the permissions section below.
III. Recommended Mods:
For a feature-complete overhaul of Morrowind's sounds, it's suggested you install CSO alongside the following mods:
Highly-Recommended Overhauls:
AURA - Ambient sound, interior weather, and other immersive effects.
MUSE - An extended, dynamic music system overhaul.
Minor Improvements & Additions:
Distant Thunder - More realistic sounding thunderstorms.
Haunted Barrows - Provides Nordic barrows with unique haunting sounds.
Heartthrum - Hear the Heart of Lorkhan beating from beneath Red Mountain.

IV. Compatibility:
This mod IS NOT compatible with OpenMW, at least until support for MWSE mods or a similar feature that allows for this kind of scripting is implemented. Otherwise it should be compatible with any other mod, and has built-in feature support for the mods below.
V. Mod Coverage:
If you are the author of a mod I've covered and DON'T want CSO's features extended to your mod, simply let me know and I'll remove them.
If you are a mod author who DOES want terrain-based footsteps applied, merely make a request in the designated forum. Authors who ask will be prioritized.
Covered Mods:
This mod does NOT require the following mods, but their textures and/or objects have been covered to allow the proper sounds to play while active. Many more mods may be covered than are listed here, as the included textures and objects using them can be used by other mods. So long as the texture paths aren't altered by said mods, those textures/objects will remain covered.

VIII. Credits:
This mod would not have been possible without the help of Greatness7, NullCascade, the Morrowind Modding Community Discord, and the many beta testers that helped with development.
Thank you to Korootz for permission to rewrite and include the features of his mod, Deathrattle Sounds, within CSO.
Credit goes to R-Zero for the 'Sound' spell effect noise and framework for other spells, as the idea came from his mod Sound Spell Sound Effect.
Sound files were derived primarily from the Witcher 2, used in compliance with CD Projekt RED's usage terms and conditions, as well as Skyrim's Immersive Sounds Compendium by lazyskeever.
