About this mod

This mod changes what sort of loot you can find in Skaal locations, giving them a stronger sense of faction identity. It is the second Faction Specific Loot module.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
"There is a careful balance that lies in all things of this world. The animals, the trees, even the rocks and the winds. It is a harmony that the Skaal draw power from, by the grace of the All-Maker, He who gave us these gifts."

Skyrim actually has different loot sets depending on faction. In theory, what you find in a Draugr boss chest and what you find in a Bandit boss chest are different. Except to me it never really felt that way. No matter if I was in the depths of a Dwemer facility, the shadowy headquarters of a band of highwaymen, or popping open the chest a bear inexplicably kept in his cave, I'd find the exact same sort of stuff. Faction Specific Loot attempts to change that by taking advantage of and expanding on the systems and items that already exist in Skyrim. Ideally, when playing with this mod you won't open up a box and think to yourself "How did this get here?" or "Why wasn't the boss using this on me?".

This second entry of Faction Specific Loot focuses on the Skaal, who I feel are due for a little bit of love and attention.

Part of Faction Specific Loot alongside Faction Specific Loot - Eagles of Alinor and Faction Specific Loot - Blades of Mephala.

What does the mod do?
The Skaal are given a material set that their leveled gear can include. NPCs have generic leveled lists swapped out with Skaal-specific ones. Generic containers are replaced with Skaal-specific duplicates that draw their contents from Skaal-specific leveled lists.

Skaal Materials:
The Skaal have access to Iron, Steel, and Nordic equipment depending on level.
I don't know how to at this time, but in the future I'd like to include Stalhrim if you've completed the Stalhrim quest in their favor.

NPC Changes:
  • Skaal who were carrying leveled weapons now draw from Skaal specific leveled item pools.
  • Skaal who carried food now draw from Skaal-specific food pools containing food available on Solstheim.
  • Skaal who carry drinks now draw from Skaal-specific pools for the types of drink they may carry.
  • Generic Skaal hunters now carry raw meat and furs limited to and including those that can be found on Solstheim.

Replaced Containers:
These containers are replaced with Skaal-specific variants:
  • "BarrelFish01" is replaced with "FSLBarrelFish01Skaal". Fish not present in Solstheim are removed, and a simpler diet is contained.
  • "CommonWardrobe01" is replaced with "FSLCommonWardrobe01Skaal". While normal clothes are still possible in the new container, you will now find Skaal clothing roughly 2/3s of the time.
  • "Cupboard01" is replaced with "FSLCupboard01Skaal". Skaal Clothes can now be found among the clutter.
  • "Dresser01" is replaced with "FSLDresser01Skaal". While normal clothes are still possible in the new container, you will now find Skaal clothing roughly 2/3s of the time.
  • "TreasKnapsack" is replaced with "FSLTreasKnapsackSkaal". The clothes found within are replaced with Skaal clothes.
  • "UpperDresser01" is replaced with "FSLUpperDresser01Skaal". While normal clothes are still possible in the new container, you will now find Skaal clothing roughly 2/3s of the time.
  • "UpperWardrobe01" is replaced with "FSLUppderWardrobe01Skaal". While normal clothes are still possible in the new container, you will now find Skaal clothing roughly 2/3s of the time.

Unreplaced Containers:
These containers are present in Skaal locations, but did not have Skaal versions made for the listed reasons:
  • "BarrelFood01" containers were left alone as their vanilla contents were fine.
  • "MiscSack" variants were left alone as their vanilla contents were fine.
  • "TreasStrongbox" was left alone. Contains nothing but non-divine jewelry.
  • "TreasUpperChest" contains gold and not much else, so needs no changes
  • "BarrelIngredient" variants were left alone, alchemy ingredients can be imported.
  • "UpperEndTable01" and "UpperEndTable02" contain nothing but misc household items. Plates and spoons and such. Vanilla contents were thus fine.
  • All merchant chests were left unedited. I am unsure if editing merchant inventories is out of scope or not.

A Note on Merchant Containers:
I am really uncertain if this mod should extend to editing merchant inventories. On one hand, I'd like it to and it makes sense to do so. On another, that's a whole new slew of compatibility patches, and seems like a bit of an expansion in scope. I am curious to hear feedback and opinions on if merchant inventories should also be edited for factions that have them.

Compatibility:
This mod extensively replaces Skaal leveled item lists and containers.
It is unlikely to be compatible with things that alter the Skaal, Skaal NPCs, or change container placements.

Mods with Known Compatibility Status
red: incompatible, no known patch. Included in the list as warning.
orange: incompatible, patch in progress. Included in the list as a warning and to let users know one is in the works.
yellow: incompatible, known patch. Included in the list to inform users of the patch.
green: compatible. Included in the list only if I receive questions about a mod and it turns out not to need patches, or if it is something people are likely to think conflicts.

NPC overhauls that edit Skaal NPCs: Will require a patch to avoid overwriting this mod's inventory changes.
NVICO - Modular High Poly NPC Overhaul: Patches for Bandits, Townies, and Both available in optional files.
Pandorable's NPCs - Dragonborn: Patch available in optional files.
Lux: Patch available in optional files.
