About this mod

Replaces generic city guards within Jarl's halls with Household Guards. Flagged as an esl for those sweet, sweet load order slots.

Permissions and credits
Changelogs
This mod replaces the guards present inside of each Jarl's palace or hall with Household Guards. They are meant to reflect the personal military retinue of a Jarl, as opposed to the more general city guards. They wear steel plate gauntlets, boots, and helmets but continue to wear the cuirass from the hold's uniform and are renamed to <city/hold name> Household Guard. Other than these changes, they remain functionally identical to the guards they replaced.
If the Imperial Legion regains control of a city then the Imperial guards inside of the Jarl's hall will wear heavy imperial armor.
It's also flagged as an esl, so no load order slots consumed.

Can be considered part of the same "suite" as Imperial Honor Guard, The Redoran Council Guard, Jailors and Turnkeys, and Civil War Officer Corps.

Things I want to do with the mod in the future:

  • Fully untangle the arcane knot that is Riften guard schedules and confirm I got it right
  • Revisit unique household guard sets for each hold
  • Find a satisfying way to give Stormcloak occupiers a Jarl's guard set.

Compatibility
This mod:
  • creates 11 new outfits, which are the Household Guard Outfits.
  • edits 19 NPCs, its only edits being their names, their outfits, and to keep their templates from overwriting the name and outfit changes.
  • creates 1 new NPC, as the way Windhelm guards appear to work is funky.
  • edits 6 references in the WindhelmPalaceofKingsExterior worldspace to point to the new NPC, as they way Windhelm guards appear to work is funky.
It does nothing more or less than this. It should not cause black face bugs, as all NPCs used or changed in this mod still derive their appearance from their templates. It cannot effect the behaviors of unedited guards. It cannot effect the equipment of unedited guards. It cannot effect the stats of unedited guards. There is pretty much no way it can cause a crash.
Report compatibility issues you find. When you do so, include the incompatible mod's name, and what specifically is incompatible.

FAQ(but not really, no one has actually asked questions this is just preventative):

Q: I have spotted a guard wearing normal guard equipment inside of the Jarl's hall(and it wasn't during a quest event where an outside guard comes in, like at the start of Dragon Rising)!
Report it so I can get them properly kitted out. Especially if that bastard is in Riften.

Q: I have spotted a Household Guard outside of the Jarl's Palace(and it wasn't because they were chasing me)!
There is one location I know of where this may occur, which is in Riften around the guard's training area. In theory those guys are the night shift and will move into the keep once it is their turn to do so. If it isn't at the Riften guard training area, report it! If I don't properly understand Riften guard schedules, report it!

Q: Why does only the Legion get special guards?
The Imperial Legion has 4 possible armor varieties. Full light, light studded, heavy, and heavy officer. With Imperial heavy armor, I can create guards that are visually distinct without having the Jarl guarded by an inexplicable officer swarm. The Stormcloaks have their basic light soldier armor, and full officer armor. There is no in-between. The options are either an officer swarm, the exact same set up as the generic Stormcloak guards, or a janky mix and match with officer armor. Can't have shit in Skryim.

Q: Why do they all use steel plate?
Good question. I played with the idea of giving each hold its own variation of armor, but there wasn't enough armor types to give them all their own and have it still make sense. I got as far as:
  • Solitude: Steel Plate
  • Windhelm: Stormcloak Officer
  • Winterhold: Ancient Nord(Korir seems real big on trying to invoke the past to reclaim a shred of relevance for Winterhold)
  • Whiterun: Steel helm, steel nordic gauntlets and boots
  • Dawnstar: Nordic
  • Falkreath: Steel imperial braces and boots. helmet?
  • Morthal: Iron, its a poor hold.
As you can see, that leaves Riften and Markarth without anything. If you got ideas, feel free to share them. Unique hold armors would be cool but I ain't got shit for them.

Q: Why your mod break my game?
It probably didn't. Its had no problem so far in testing, and should work perfectly fine with the vanilla game. Please review the compatibility section. If afterwards you still feel it was this mod that did it then post your modlist and how it broke.
