Overview

This mod adds 5 female relatives of Ulfric Stormcloak to the Palace of Kings in Windhelm. All 5 are potential followers and marriageable.

This mod is ESL-flagged for minimal impact on your load order.

This mod's added NPCs use whatever skeleton, body, and skin textures you have installed.

The added NPCs have KS Hairdos, but KS Hairdos is not required. This mod includes copies of all the textures from KS Hairdos that it uses.

None of the added NPCs have any actual relationships established in Creation Kit with Ulfric, so you are free to roleplay each of their relationships with Ulfric. I have listed one possible relationship for each of them below, but you are free to ignore that and make up your own.

They are dressed in jeweled circlets and noble clothes, which convey their noble standing in Ulfric's court.

As devout worshippers of Talos, they each proudly wear an Amulet of Talos.

Requirements

This mod has no hard requirements other than Skyrim SE.

This mod uses RaceMenu's NiOverride feature for NPC head scaling. While RaceMenu is not strictly necessary, you must have RaceMenu installed in order to get the intended head sizes for the added NPCs.

This mod does not require KS Hairdos. This mod includes copies of all the textures from KS Hairdos that it uses.

This mod's screenshots show vanilla circlets whose appearance has been changed by JS Circlet Replacer, but this mod does not require JS Circlet Replacer.

This mod's screenshots show vanilla clothing whose appearance has been changed by Tiwa44 Minidresses Collection UNPB-BBP-SSE, but this mod does not require Tiwa44 Minidresses Collection.

Technical Details

This mod is intended as a concept demonstration of how to scale the head sizes of added NPCs.

The Skyrim game engine uniformly scales all body parts of a character according to the character's height scale. This creates the unfortunate effect of making tall character's heads unusually large and making short character's heads unusually small.

That is not how humans appear in real life. Tall people's heads are not much bigger than short people's heads.

RaceMenu offers a Head scale slider that lets you change your player character's head size, and you can use that slider to work around Skyrim's behavior of scaling your player character's head size in conjunction with your player character's overall height.

When you export a head from RaceMenu, RaceMenu's Head slider does not affect the size of the exported head mesh. When you subsequently use the exported head mesh for an NPC, the NPC's head will have the standard head bone scale, which will be affected by the overall NPC height scale. A tall NPC's head will appear unusually large and a short NPC's head will appear unusually small.

You can use a different RaceMenu feature to change an NPC's head size -- the RaceMenu NiOverride feature, which is used by adding an NiStringExtraData element to a TriShape in the mesh for a piece of armor, clothing, or jewelry, and equipping that item on the NPC. When a piece of armor, clothing, or jewelry is equipped on an NPC, the RaceMenu NiOverride feature scans all elements of the corresponding meshes in the NIF and applies any transformations that are specified in NiStringExtraData elements in the meshes.

The NiStringExtraData element must have a Name attribute with a value of SDTA which stands for "Skeleton Data", and must also have a String Data attribute with a value that is a JSON string that specifies the transformation. Within the JSON string, the "name" attribute specifies the scope of the transformation. A JSON string containing "name":"NPC" will apply the transformation to the entire NPC, while a JSON string whose "name" attribute specifies a particular skeleton bone name will apply the transformation to that bone and all that bone's children bones.

Please refer to this picture for the details of how the NiStringExtraData element is specified in the NIF.

This mod includes 4 silver rings, each with an NiStringExtraData element that applies a particular scale to the NPC's head bone, which will change the size of the NPC's head.
  • Silver Ring Head Scale 0.94 scales the NPC's head significantly smaller. This is intended for a very tall NPC.
  • Silver Ring Head Scale 0.96 scales the NPC's head smaller. This is intended for a tall NPC.
  • Silver Ring Head Scale 0.98 scales the NPC's head a little smaller. This is intended for a slender normal height NPC.
  • Silver Ring Head Scale 1.02 scales the NPC's head a little larger. This is intended for a short NPC.

Given the height and weight of each added NPC, and the need to scale the NPC's head to compensate, this mod includes the appropriate ring for that NPC in the outfit assigned to that NPC.

Gerda Stormcloak is a petite, full-figured mature woman.
Height 0.92 Weight 89
With a height of only 0.92, Gerda's head would normally be scaled down to be disproportionately small compared to her body.
Her outfit includes a silver ring that scales her head up to 1.02 to make her head larger and compensate for the scaling-down from her short height.

Bitta Stormcloak is a petite young woman.
Height 0.94 Weight 28
With a height of only 0.94, Bitta's head would normally be scaled down to be disproportionately small compared to her body.
Her outfit includes a silver ring that scales her head up to 1.02 to make her head larger and compensate for the scaling-down from her short height. (Bitta wears the same outfit as Gerda.)

Tyra Stormcloak is a slender young woman.
Height 1.0 Weight 0
Tyra has a standard height of 1.0, but the minimum weight of zero. Making her head slightly smaller than normal scale helps create the appearance of a slender young woman.
Her outfit includes a silver ring that scales her head down to 0.98 to make her head slightly smaller.

Magda Stormcloak is a tall, slender young woman.
Height 1.02 Weight 0
With a height of 1.02, Magda's head would normally be scaled up to be disproportionately large compared to her body.
Her outfit includes a silver ring that scales her head down to 0.96 to make her head smaller and compensate for the scaling-up from her tall height.

Tilda Stormcloak is a very tall, slender young woman.
Height 1.04 Weight 0
With a height of 1.04, Magda's head would normally be scaled up to be disproportionately large compared to her body.
Her outfit includes a silver ring that scales her head down to 0.94 to make her head significantly smaller and compensate for the scaling-up from her very tall height.

Compatibility

This mod is designed for maximum compatibility with your load order and with other mods.

This mod includes an ESL-flagged ESP file, for minimal impact on your load order slots. The ESP file loads the corresponding BSA file. No loose files.

This mod's added NPCs use whatever skeleton, body, and skin textures you have installed, to minimize memory consumption and provide the best performance.

This mod is compatible with KS Hairdos, but does not require KS Hairdos. This mod includes copies of all the textures from KS Hairdos that it uses, packaged into a BSA file.

This mod is compatible with any texture replacers for KS Hairdos, such as Salt and Wind - Rough Hair for KS Hairdos SE. This mod uses the same texture file paths as KS Hairdos, so any mod that replaces textures for KS Hairdos will also affect this mod.
