About this mod
This mod changes the economy by adding exchange notes and new septims fully integrated into the game's monetary system. It also adds new regional currencies to the world in a lorefriendly way. Make sure you install all the frameworks you need to make everything work. There are a lot of them, but they are useful for modding comfort.

SEPTIMS & EXCHANGE NOTES
- the copper septim (the monetary standard).
- the silver septim.
- the gold septim.
Coins have a weight : copper = 0.01 | silver = 0.02 | gold = 0.03.
They can become a burden if you do not exchange them for notes.
Three types of exchange notes
- East Empire Company Note (5,000 septims).
- Khajiit Caravan Note (2,000 Septims).
- Merchant Guild Note (1,000 septims).
Exchange notes allow you to get rid of your coins while preserving your capital. You can exchange your septims for these notes at most merchants. Conversely, if you want to make cash, you can exchange your notes for their value in septims.
Exchangers menu
When you give a note to an exchanger, you can choose the type of septims you want to get back by pressing one of these keys :
- C to recover copper septims
- S to recover silver septims
- G to recover gold septims.
You can change the values, names and weights of the septims by editing the ini file in SKSE\Plugins\SkyPatcher\misc\skypatcher_EC_septims.ini.
- the ulfric, the currency of the Rebellion, which can be found in Windhelm, Dawnstar and Winterhold (COIN required).
- the mede, the new Cyrodiil currency (Beyond Skyrim Bruma and COIN required).
- the dram, used by dunmers from Solstheim (COIN required).
- the drakr, ancient nordic coins the skaals use to trade with foreigners (requires COIN).
These currencies do not all have the same strength, so you will notice that prices of items vary depending on the region.
Morrowind Mint and Skyrim Silver already develop these concepts to a greater extent. They are now compatible. Exchange Currency Enhanced includes compatibility patches to make them work with copper/silver/gold septims.
There are now three types of ingots that can be found and remelted :
- Vanilla ingots : their price and weight have been increased. They can be exchanged for notes in the East Empire Company offices.
- Bars : you need 10 bars to make one ingot. They can be used to forge jewellery.
- Ounces : you need 4 ounces to make a bar. Can be used to forge jewellery.
You can change the values and weights of the ingots by editing the ini file in SKSE\Plugins\SkyPatcher\misc\skypatcher_EC_oreIngots.ini.
This feature is optional and can be disabled during installation if you already have Immersive Jewelry.
Merchants are divided into three trading centres :
THE MERCHANT'S GUILD
- SHOPS - Grispin's Shop (Falkreath), Pawned Prawn (Riften), Bits and Pieces (Solitude), Sadri's Used Wares (Windhelm), Riverwood Trader.
- STORES - Belethor's General Goods (Whiterun), Arnleif and Sons Trading Company (Markarth).
THE EAST EMPIRE COMPANY
- THE EAST EMPIRE COMPANY (Solitude docks) : contact Vittoria Ricci, or the exchanger working for her.
- THE COMPANY OFFICE (Windhelm docks) : Speak to Orthus Endario after completing his quest, or to his exchanger.
- THE TREASURY HOUSE : Speak to Rhiada in Markarth or her exchanger.
THE KHAJIIT CARAVAN
- THE RI'SAAD CARAVAN
- THE AHKARI CARAVAN
- THE MA'DRAN CARAVAN
Each hub has its own permissions :
- Shops can only trade Merchants Guild notes.
- the East Empire Company deals with Merchants Guild notes and EEC notes. They also accept ingots.
- the Khajiit Caravan will only trade Ri'saad / Ahkari / Ma'draan signed notes, but will accept skooma and moon sugar as currency.
The East Empire Company and the Merchant's Guild provide this service to make a profit. So the Merchant's Guild will take 10% of the value of your transaction and the East Empire Company will take 15%, unless you are a trading Partner.
There are several ways to become a trading partner, you can :
- Buy a partnership contract (3,000 septims for the Merchant's Guild, 15,000 septims for the EEC)
- Join one of the two sides in the Civil War (finish the first legion quest for the East Empire Company or the first stormcloaks quest for the Merchant's Guild)
- Increase your Eloquence until you reach the 'Salesman' perk (lvl 50) in the Skill Tree
This script integrates the new gold and silver septims into the game's currency system.
It counts your total copper, gold and silver septims when you're haggling, and automatically generates the number of coins spent or earned depending on whether you're buying or selling.
It calculates your total septims when you're in the inventory, so you have a clear overview of your capital.
Note that the containers menus won't display the total number of septims, unlike your inventory. This is due to a limitation in the base game that this script cannot overcome. The container menus will display the vanilla septims as in the vanilla game, but don't worry, the other septims will still be in your pocket !
Deleting notifications
After a purchase or sale, several notifications will appear on the screen showing your total Septims and the number of Septims added/spent. You can remove these if you wish. Open the file NotificationFilter.ini --> (SKSE/plugins/NotificationFilter.ini).
At the bottom you'll see these Regex entries :

The Khajiit caravan will be pleased if you bring them vials of skooma, and will agree to exchange them for coins. But how do you get skooma? The easiest way is to make your own. Two new ingredients have been added, which you can buy from the apothecary : Elsweyr sugarcane and brown sugar.
Brown sugar is made from sugarcane, which is highly prized throughout the Empire, but it is also used to make the moon sugar.
STEP 1
Buy sugarcane and grind it with a grain mill to make brown sugar.
STEP 2
Mix brown sugar and obscurcine in a pot or vat to make moon sugar.
STEP 3
Use a cooking pot or smuggler's lab (added with this mod) to distil the moon sugar and create skooma. You can make Single Skooma, Balmora Blue, Redwater Skooma and Double-Distilled Skooma.
Tip : You'll find all the tools you need to make skooma in the Riverside shack, south of Windhelm.
Aetherium is a mineral that only the Dwemers knew how to melt. It is very rare but still possible to find it in the form of aetherium Cores in dwemer chests.
You can sell these cores for a good price, but if you find enough of them and manage to learn more about the deep elves forging techniques, you can remelt them into bars and get an even higher price from the East Empire Company.
This mod is compatible with the Aetherium armor and weapons compilation and Legends of Aetherium. They now share a common version of Aetherium Ore and Ingots. You should install these mods if you want to find more Aetherium-related content, and if you want to forge artefacts from Aetherium ingots.
Aetherium items can only be forged in the great Dwemer Forge, which can be found after completing the Lost to the Ages quest. This also applies to Aetherium bars and anything to do with remelting them.
COIN is highly recommended. Without it, you can't take advantage of the currencies integrated into the different regions of the game.
You can also melt ancient coins into ingots :
- Nchuarks into Dwemer ingots;
- Drakrs into silver ingots
- Mallaris into silver ingots
- Malas into malachite ingots
- Sancars into gold ingots.
Compatible with
- Morrowind Mint
- Skyrim Silver
- Elven Supremacy
- C.O.I.N. - Treasury Exchange
- Project AHO
- Journey to Baan Malur and Morrowind
- Beyond Skyrim - Bruma SE
- Legends of Aetherium
- Aetherium armor and weapons compilation
- Immersive Jewelry
- JS Purses and Septims SE
- Ancient Imperial Septims
- Carriage Ferry Travel Overhaul
I recommend that you put all Exchange Currency ESP plugins at the end of your load order.I also recommend to put Exchange Currency - Enhanced after COIN in the left panel of your mod organizer.
All mods adding new dialogue lines with prices are automatically compatible
Dynamic Dialogue Replacer is used to modify dialogue lines containing currency units in real time. The lines are replaced to match the currency used in the spot you are in. When renting a room in Windhelm, the line I would like to rent a room (45 gold) is replaced with I would like to rent a room (45 ulfrics).
The DDR script can handle any mod that adds sales or rental dialogues, such as Carriage Ferry Travel Overhaul. If you don't play with the regional currencies ("only septims" content), you don't need Dynamic Dialogue Replacer.
Compatible with Dynamic String Distributor as long as it does not modify dialogues containing currency units.
Making it compatible with another Location
Thanks to "Keyword Item Distributor", you can easily integrate ulfrics, medes, drams or drakrs in any place. Here's how to do it :
Add one of these keywords to a location in an ini file (see the KID page for more info) :
- isUlfMoney for ulfrics
- isDramMoney for drams
- isDrakrMoney for Skaals drakrs.
- isMedeMoney for medes.
Example :
Keyword = IsDramMoney|Location|0x0142A6~Dragonborn.esm
;Npcs, merchants, trainers, containers in the "0x0142A6" location now have drams + replace currency units in dialogue lines.
Load Order
