In the heart of the Stormcloak Rebellion, Windhelm seeks to assert its independence from the Empire. As part of this effort, the city is phasing out the traditional septim in favor of a new currency: ulfrics.
To make transactions within Windhelm, you'll need to exchange your septims for ulfrics!
- Adds a new fully functional currency to the game: the ulfric!
- Vendors in and around Windhelm will now only transact with ulfrics.
- Exchange septims for ulfrics at a new custom-voiced NPC.
- Replaces all instances of septims in Windhelm with ulfrics.
- Adjusts prices to simulate the ulfric's value relative to the septim.
- Alters the ulfric's value depending on the state of the Civil War.
Dynamic Merchants
While Windhelm may be the only place in Skyrim that has fully adopted ulfrics, it doesn’t mean other traders are unwilling to accept them. After learning about ulfric coins from Eyrir in Windhelm, you’ll be able to ask vendors throughout the province if they’re willing to barter in ulfrics.
Stormcloak-held areas are in the process of transitioning to ulfric coins, so while most transactions are still conducted with septims, vendors are required to accept ulfrics if a buyer attempts to use them. Generally, Imperial-aligned holds will refuse to trade in ulfrics, but you might find a few exceptions if you inquire. As the Civil War progresses, you'll notice the coin’s usage shifting dynamically as territories change hands between the two factions.
If the Empire wins the Civil War, ulfrics will be completely removed from circulation everywhere except for Windhelm. At that point, you won’t be able to ask other vendors about transacting in ulfrics.
Thanks to Base Object Swapper and Container Distribution Framework no cells or containers have been edited in order to distribute ulfrics around Windhelm.
Mods that add new vendors to Windhelm should be compatible without need of any patches. However, patching may be required if the new vendors have custom voice acting.
A new stall has been added outside the Palace of Kings to serve as a location for the currency exchanger NPC to occupy. If you're using an incompatible Windhelm overhaul, you can use the optional plugin provided to remove the stall. In this case, the currency exchanger will be relocated to inside the Palace of Kings.
This mod also includes built-in compatibility with C.O.I.N.'s auto exchange feature so that ulfrics aren't automatically converted to septims. WindhelmUsesUlfrics.esp will need to be loaded after C.O.I.N.esp.
