About this mod
Adds snow hares to the snowy regions in Skyrim! Creates a new type of rabbit, replacing the vanilla rabbit record in the "snowy animal" leveled list. They should spawn in the areas where arctic foxes do.

I got tired of wandering the beautiful snowy regions of my game and seeing the same brown rabbits there. The game has arctic foxes, polar bears, sabrecats and ice wolves, so why not rabbits too?
In my game I use Rabbit Replacer- Mihail Monsters and Animals (SE-AE version) and I edited the textures to make the rabbits snow hares. If you choose this version you must have the base replacer installed, for the normal map to work.
Mihail fluffy Version
Based on the Fluffy Rabbit Replacer And Hanging Dead Rabbits Replacer - by WillOhtheWisp. You don't need this mod, just the base replacer mod, but I encourage you to download and endorse it if you use this option.
SMIM non fluffy version
Created using Static Mesh Improvement Mod - SMIM - by Brumbek - mesh and recolored textures. You'll need the SMIM mod installed for the normal map.
Vanilla version
Uses an edited rabbit texture from Bellyaches Animal and Creature Pack Revamp - by StepModifications to be snowy.
Fluffy Vanilla version
Uses the mesh from FusaFusa Project - Fluffy Animals SE by Vicn with an edited rabbit texture from Bellyaches Animal and Creature Pack Revamp - by StepModifications to be snowy. I learned how to make a shell texture from it. It is super fluffy but my beta testers liked it, so I didn't tweak it any further.
Custom-race fluffy vanilla version
Because some mods such as Real Rabbits HD - Color Variants and High Poly Mesh with Fur and its patch Real Rabbits HD - SPID Edition use the rabbit race to randomize the colors. This would also revert all the snow hares to random colors, so using this version allows you to have snow hares and varied regular rabbits.
Yurufuwa version
Adorable chubby bunnies from the Skyrim LE modder's resource yurufuwa rabbit by KANRAx2. I upscaled the texture resolution to 2k, hand edited the fur, made custom eyes and saved in BC7 format. Meshes were optimized with CAO.
Custom-race Yurufuwa version
Same as above, but with the custom race, as described previously. Not compatible with the SkyTest/One with Nature patches.
For version 2.0, I tweaked the textures to make them whiter, and more arctic hare looking. And for the fluffy ones, I created my own fur using the base texture, resulting in some plush snow hares. The effect is more subtle than other shell texturing I've seen, but I think it's appropriate to an animal who depends on its thick coat to survive.
Both Beyond Skyrim - Bruma SE at Skyrim Special Edition and Northpoint SE at Skyrim Special Edition have unique snowy animal levelled lists, so I made patches so the snow hares will spawn there too.
The mods Immersive Tweaks - Animal Behaviour and Wintersun - Faiths of Skyrim both add rabbits in snowy areas, so there are patches to turn them into snow hares.
The mod Skyrim Long tailed Tit edits the snowy animals list and now has a patch in the fomod.
Patches are now in the optional files sections for 4k Mihail rabbit textures, and for Mihail non-fluffy optimized mesh, I was given permission from todor0v.
- Should be compatible with anything, unless they edit the snowy leveled list or change the rabbits based on race (when not using the custom race version). "Rabbits of Skyrim" edits the leveled list, I believe. If you want the snow hares to show up, overwrite it with mine to get my snowy leveled list.
- They should spawn anywhere arctic foxes spawn, since they use the same list. If you see a regular rabbit somewhere that is snowy, it is because the game is not using the snowy animal list there, nothing to do with this mod!
- Nope! This is a new creature being placed in the snowy regions, doesn't touch the other ones.
- Sure, if they have a unique snowy levelled list that's an easy fix, like what I did with Bruma and Northpoint.. handplaced snow hare spawns might also be considered but are not likely to exist anyway.
- I dunno, I'm kind of sick of looking at rabbits currently LOL XD
Hanging Snow Hares - Base Object Swapper Support - my companion mod to this one, which immersively replaces the dead hanging rabbits in snowy areas with snow haresSnow Animals Spawn in Snowy Regions - edits the snowy predator leveled list so wolves and bears in snowy regions spawn their snowy versions
SkyTEST 2022 Redux - Realistic Animal and Predators 4K - patch for this available - gives animals in the game more advanced ai packages and behaviors
One With Nature - Dynamic Animals and Creatures SE and its ESL patch One With Nature - Dynamic Animals and Creatures SE ESL
Optimized Meshes - Rabbit Replacer- Mihail Monsters and Animals (SE-AE version) If you use Mihail's non-fluffy version
Thanks also to todor0v for granting me permission to provide the optimized mesh from Optimized Meshes - Rabbit Replacer- Mihail Monsters and Animals (SE-AE version) for the non-fluffy Mihail version!
Also big thanks to my fellow Harbingers, for beta testing for me, and finding the error in my first ever fomod!
