About this mod

Performance version of Kuzja80's complete remaster, plus vanilla horse and Battlehorn overhaul.

1K? This is 2021.

Kuzja80's textures are in my opinion the best available for Oblivion, so even at 1k they look much better than vanilla and stay true to the original Bethesda concept. The 2K reduced version of the original mod ran fine for me in city's and dungeons but outside it was unstable, so with the authors permission I tried to make a true performance version which would be suitable for any old PC. If you can run Oblivion with 4K textures then go right to Kuzja80's page, I found 1k was the sweet spot for performance so here is Vanilla Remastered 1k.

Compatibility.

I went to great lengths to make this pack compatible with most popular mods so I included up-scaled versions of all UOP textures, you can install this on top and it will work perfectly. There will be no conflicts with OCO or body mods as NPC textures have been left out. Mods like Improved Trees and Flora can be used, or the optional Remastered Plants Rocks Trees file. Any texture mods made for the vanilla game will work. I should also mention that things like ENBoost will not be required unless you also install huge amounts of 2k textures, that said, you should still use every fix and performance mod you can find.

Extra Stuff.

I've made several improvements to vanilla horses, removing texture seams and that odd purple tint Bethesda likes so much. Eye textures have also been replaced which makes them look much more alive. A tweaked version of Skeleton Replacer n Retex by boofdawg with no glowy eyes is also included, her skele just looks way better than the standard one. A fixed mesh for the white flame effect from the original mod is available in optional files.

Very Horny Knights

A simple alternative to companion mods without the bugs, there are no boobs or celebrities here, just good old fashioned knights. Followers from the Fighter's Stronghold DLC were very poor in combat and wore vanilla plate armour, with a few simple changes to stats and equipment, you should find them more effective, durable, and interesting characters. The combination of bows and melee weapons they had before seemed untested and really did not work so now there is one dedicated archer using silver arrows and the others have different melee styles. Castellan Athon is still the strongest fighter and is armed with a silver longsword, unlike the others though, he is killable. Most items carried by the knights are unbreakable so are unplayable to prevent exploits. The overhaul is based on several mods by AkitoKuno that have been thoroughly reworked and fixed, all fixes from UOP are also included. Fixed KOTN Armor

I managed to get rid of clipping with the shoulder plates on the Pelinal version so they look perfect, also cleaned up some rough textures.

Install Instructions And Performance Tweaks

I recommend Wrye Bash. Avoid using the Heap Replacer mod and instead set bReplaceHeap to 1 in the Oblivion Stutter Remover ini, keep iHeapSize at the default 450 which will stop crashing, and use iHeapAlgorithm 5 which massively reduces load times and combat lag. Use a performance grass mod and set  iMinGrassSize to 120 or more in your Oblivion.ini. Run Oblivion BSA Decompressor (as admin) to reduce stuttering.

Mods intended for use with Oblivion Remastered 1K

You just can't beat scratch made textures by a modder, Oblivion Realm HD gives what can be a rather repetitive experience some real atmosphere.

Some cave textures really suck even at 4k. I am using Amps Cavern Retexture at 1k, nothing like vanilla but very realistic.

I highly recommend you install Landscape NormalMap Fix after either main file, the textures are same size as vanilla so will perform slightly better and are extremely high quality eliminating all pixelation.

Any ENB. Yes it is possible even on an old or weak system and can actually help performance in a number of ways. ENB includes updates to the engine which I am too stupid to understand. I have just started using Cinematic ENB along with Static DOF, Inject SMAA, NAO, Tiny LOD's, and it runs great. Of course this is Oblivion modding so I had to tweak a few things first, changing settings in Static DOF to get the look and performance I wanted and repacking the LOD textures mod. Now the game looks really nice, ugly distant land is blurred so I can use tiny LOD's which helps stuttering.
