You can find just the horse textures from this mod (which I just updated) here https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/51610

Wrye Bash is highly recommended if you intend using more than a few mods, some essential ones to be using even on a vanilla game are 4gb patcher, OBSE, OSR but possibly not with an OS later than Windows 7, Engine Bug Fixes, NVAC, Oblivion BSA Decompressor, and of course UOP which currently has 15 years of work in it and is still being updated. Using those with Vanilla Remastered 1k I have a stable game with no crashes. Tweaking OSR ini file to suit your system may also help. Other mods will be down to your preference but other beneficial performance mods I use are Daydream grass (reduced to 2k) plus an Oblivion.ini tweak to reduce grass density, DeParallaxer Mod, and SkyBSA also seems to help things run more smoothly. Do not assume all mods are made perfectly, use a utility to check all the textures are in the correct format and have mips, or down-scale them to meet your specs.

As for visual upgrades you can keep it simple, just disabling the games AA and V-Sync then using driver forced alternates along with 16xAF makes a big difference. I'm using Natural Atmospheric Oblivion and Cinematic ENB with Static DOF. Remember Oblivion is mostly limited by its dated engine, not just hardware, but ENB seems to make very little difference to how the game runs for me, solid 60 most places dipping to about 45 in random places.

I have been playing and modding old Bethesda games for years, so if you have a problem or question just leave a comment and I will do my best to help.

Is there a changelog for v1.3? I just downloaded the 3.2GB version 1.2 yesterday and might not want to do it again ?

Sorry, no need to download again if you are happy. Latest version was to remove Imperial Guard textures which were from my personal version.

Version 1.1 was packed with the latest 7-zip which made the compressed size much less, contents were the same.

Version 1.2 included all the updates which fixed a wrongly sized texture, two others that were not 1k, and some updates to my horse overhaul. Updates were getting confusing and cluttered so now its a simple matter of downloading main files then desired optional files.

Version 1.3 removed Imperial Guard textures from another mod I was using in my personal version and replaced them with the up-scaled vanilla versions as they should have been. I can't even remember where I got them from to get permission so that had to be done.

The BSA version of the mod was scrapped due to its complicated install, nobody was using it, and it had no performance gains from what I could see. Old Bethesda titles run fine with loose textures, TTW and Fallout 4 however do not.

The optional Plants Rocks Trees file was updated to fix folder structure.

The uploading process of a file more than 3 gigs takes ages so I do not intend doing it again, from here on there will only be new optional files like Polished Armor. As I play through Oblivion I'm noting textures that still look bad and making smaller upgrade packs.

Would it be possible to recolor the elven armor to a more gold color and glass to a darker green color (like skyrim)?

Yeah they are both based on modded textures so will look good, read descriptions.

    HI,

I'm getting CDTs with this texture pack, maybe i don't have enough free memory after all these mods I'm running, since Oblivion in unstable as it is.

I have a bunch of mods installed, and the most relevant mods i have installed are Open Cities Reborn, Unique Landscapes, Kvatch Rebuilt and
No more burned ground, Alternative beginnings and Alternative Beginnings Kvatch Intact. And of course all corresponding patches required for
these mods to work together properly.

As well as xOBSE, Blockead, Oblivion Stutter Remover, Fast Exit 2 etc...

Maybe I can figure all this out...

Late reply but its highly unlikely that this is the cause, should perform the same as vanilla even without any fixes.

I'd recommend Kuzja's fixings package but its currently hidden, without something like this which overhauls the engine you have to keep it simple. Do yourself a favour and lose all the stuff that makes major changes, my money would be on something like open cities causing crashes. Oblivion is very finicky, you may have changed something minor and screwed the game so try a new character and check if it fixes itself before making changes.

Unless you suspect a particular mod, delete everything, uninstall Oblivion and start from scratch. Try playing vanilla game a while and see if that works, maybe a newer OS is causing issues, test compatibility modes, try d3d9 (fixed crashes for me) and google for common issues and fixes. Once you are sure it runs OK, slowly add mods but check in posts section for potential problems. Use Wrye Bash to resolve conflicts and only use mods you really want, I remember trying a simple mod that just hid all your keys in inventory and it caused all sorts of weird bugs like weapon textures bugging out so test everything. I had problems when switching from Windows 7, stutter remover didn't like later versions but maybe an updated version has been made, not messed with Oblivion for ages.

Like I said, keep it simple or be prepared for hours of messing around in XEdit and Wrye Bash. Problems modding Bethesda games are the norm, I can't tell you how many times I have restarted Fallout 4 and Skyrim after another thing broke. Oblivion is actually one of the best to mod as they don't mess with it but in my experience it only ran properly on Windows 7.

Thank you for this mode, partner. The original 4k version is not avaiable by the moment, and this is one of the best texture mods ever. Even "only" at 1k is very nice. .. I have a question.. Qarl's one has 512 right?

Well its good to know Kuzja80 is still active, what with all the Russia stuff.

I remember reading something from Qarl about how 1k is the absolute limit of what Oblivion can handle, so I guess resolution will be very similar for both his pack and this. Difference is this one is up-scaled vanilla so it works with other mods, his is completely new textures and edited meshes. You will notice some textures still look bad (caves for example) so I recommend you install a bunch of other texture mods on top of this.

Hi thanks for sharing, can you make lower res version of tree billboards ? those billboards are way too high res for distance, texture size is 1.3 mg

I don't have Oblivion installed currently, and I'm not sure what a tree billboard is.

Sounds like you have found the textures and they are 1k which is fine for the game to handle. You could make them 512x512 with Gimp which is a free program but you should learn how to properly export dds textures if you are unfamiliar.

You could also overwrite the textures with another mod with a lower resolution or just delete them and use the vanilla ones.

Thanks for reply, yes they are 1k texture for distance trees, maybe i will try Gimp to make them 512x512.

Just don't use the optional Remastered plants rocks trees file, you will barely tell the difference anyway. The reason I made this mod is those textures from the original mod really messed up performance for me so just keep all that vanilla and get yourself a performance grass mod. You can install higher quality textures on top of this for interiors without issue.

Is your Whiteflame Fix better than Whiteflame fix?

Kuzja80 made it, I think they do different things. From what I remember the flame is completely invisible without this.

Hey, you're still here and supporting the mod :) Great! I've got a question: what's in the main files archive? I assume it is everything + fixes from misc files?
Remodding Oblivion again (this time without a mess of several thousands loose files no one knows from what mod, in what order install / update).

Oh and also what's better to be loaded later: this or Qarl's pack?

Ooh its been a while but I'm fairly sure all the smaller files are optional, so not included in the main one. Natural Vanilla Horses which has its own mod page is included. To be honest if you use Qarl's pack on top of this you are going to overwrite most of it so I would pick one or the other. What I did was install a few mods over this one for things like caves which still look really bad, I found a really nice one with a sort of wet look to it that was very realistic, Amps Cavern Retexture I think, you can get away with 2k stuff in interiors. Oblivion Realm HD is also very good as it gets rid of the cartoony colours and stretched ground textures, after also giving the demon dudes a bunch of mod weapons and armour those sections were way more fun.

You would have to ask Kuzja80 about specific differences between the programs used to up-scale but this will perform better, being limited to 1k. I did loads of testing on my old computer and found 2k textures wrecked performance. The problem lies with the game engine not being able to cope so my version is quite a good solution.

I have a new PC with a 3080 now but have not tried Oblivion on it, I bet it still runs like garbage with 2k textures though. Since the old stutter remover does not work on newer operating systems I recommend checking out Kuzja80's page as he has stuff that updates the engine, it might actually be the only way of running the game smoothly now. He runs 4k textures fine with his setup.

    Seems like the Ready_To_Game_Stabilize_Pack got archived in the creator's mod page. Am I screwed now? ;-;

I used to use this with a few performance mods like engine fixes and it ran fine, his pack is just tweaked versions of other fix mods combined and should only be a strict requirement when using textures of 2k and above. I know his walls of text can be a little confusing so leave him a comment, that stuff may be included in the egl download.

Well it always had problems installing large files like this, so I doubt it will work. I use Wrye Bash and recommend you give it a try, I have played and modded old Bethesda games for ages and I find it works much better than other mod managers. For example with FO3 using Vortex I had numerous bugs that were all fixed by the bashed patch feature of Wrye Bash. If you play Tale Of Two Wastelands you are better off using Vortex as Wrye Bash does not work correctly.

If you have any problems setting it up or questions I will be glad to help.

I hear you about large files.  The largest I've ever installed with NMM is 2.8 GB.  For mods of that size, I like to download them manually then use a manager to install them.  I could never figure out how to install anything with Wrye Bash, although making patches is very intuitive.

(Me on my new account) You install Wrye Bash for whatever games you want and it should detect them in the installer, then you will have a folder called MOPY in each games folder. Go in there and hit the exe, now click on the installers tab, say yes and it will setup your install folder. Now to install a mod you just stick the zip (no need to extract) in Oblivion Mods, right below the game folder in the Bash Installers folder. Open Wrye Bash, click on installers tab in top left to refresh and it should appear. Right click and just choose install or advanced installation if it has a fomod.

You can change the load order by dragging mods up or down in the installers section, and esp load order in the mods section, make sure the esp box is ticked then the mod is installed. When removing a mod uninstall before you delete it from Bash Installers. The Bashed Patch esp should already be in your mods section, right click on it and choose rebuild patch, its all automatic and will sort out all the conflicts for you, very important for old Bethesda games or your game will be a mess.

You can link LOOT to Wrye Bash by making a shortcut of the exe and putting it in MOPY/Apps, then the little icon should be in bottom left.

Those are all the basics you need to install mods but it can do a ton of other stuff, maybe you have a load of mods already installed so it would be a pain, but give it a go and ditch NMM when you can.
