About this mod

Vintage Morrowind adds 50 new beverages to Morrowind. I tried to stay lore-friendly with an eye on 'could you really make alcohol with that?'
All the drinks have alchemical properties but I don't really envision most players wanting to actually drink these. I created this more as a 'collectors mod' for those of use who want to outfit our homes / taverns with a wider selection.
If you use Tooltips Complete, Vintage Morrowind includes custom tooltips for most of the new drinks. I reference The Lesser House Distillery, which I was going to build but realized I don't (yet) have the skills needed to pull that off.
These are found in crates / containers (added via leveled lists) & to a few vendors. Some of them are very, very rare.

TEXTURES & MESHES USED:
Many of the textures come from Morrowind Enhanced Textures, Tamriel_Data, OAAB_Data, & the game itself. Some of the textures I made entirely by hand using assets that I have been bouncing from hard-drive to hard-drive for nearly 30 years.
The meshes are a mix of Tamriel_data, OAAB_Data, RR Better Meshes, & base-game.

THE FULL LIST OF BEVERAGES

LICHEN BRANDY
I did a deep-dive into what can be used to make various types of alcohol. In Iceland, they apparently make a brandy using lichen so I ran with it. The 3 base-game lichens are covered along with 3 from Tamriel_Data / OAAB_Data
IRL: Lichen brandy is made in Iceland.

FLOWER LIQUEURS
While researching alcohol I learned flowers are often made into liqueurs (not liquors) or added to distilled alcohols like vodka. They cannot be made, by themselves, into wines (for example) because wine & other fermented beverages require something with a high sugar content. Flowers can be added for additional flavor later in the wine making process.
IRL: Heather Cream Liqueur is made in Scotland so in-game it's called the same (guars produce milk so that's my flimsy reasoning).

MORRETS (MUSHROOM WINE)
I love it when I find something in a game, or mod, that causes me to Google things like "can you make alcohol from mushrooms?" In the real-world, I couldn't get much of an answer to any specific beverage name / type* BUT the 'worldbuilding' subreddit popped up as a top result on Google. The OP had the same question & on commenter said (paraphrasing): mushrooms can be made into a wine called morrets with is a dwarven technique.
I ran with that & the tooltip for these say the process for making the morret is an ancient, heavily guarded Dwemeri technique known only to The Lesser House Distillery (more on that below).
* I did come across a mention of a tincture made with fly agaric & vodka, but the mushroom is poisonous & the tincture is tricky to make & has no value as an alcoholic drink & dubious value medicinally.

ASHLANDER-MADE ALCOHOLS
From left-to-right: Ashvavit, Pulque, Fire Fern Whiskey
- Ashvavit is a play on the real-world Askvavit or Aquavit which is distilled from potatoes or grain. I used the name because I could twist it to fit the ash yams.
- Pulque is a real-world alcohol made from the fermented sap of the agave plant & dates back several millennia. Since Hackle-lo is a succulent(ish?) plant, I ran with it. I had zero creativity left for names by this point.
- Fire Fern whiskey is exactly what it sounds like. Absolute zero creativity left by this point.

(mostly) IMPORTED ALCOHOLS
The first is Dwemeri Demise, a whiskey made natively on Vvardenfel. The other 3 are imports from Elsweyr & Black Marsh. The names of the imports come from ESO. The design of the Moon Sugar Rum is heavily inspired by ESO's version.
From left-to-right:
- Dwemeri Demise (whiskey, not imported)
- Moon Sugar Rum, Elsweyr
- Argonian Mud Nectar, Black Marsh
- Theilul, Black Marsh

WHISKEY COLLECTION
These 7 drinks I consider whiskeys / hard alcohol. These should be borderline rare finds. All of them are bottled by the non-existent distillery I made up when I first envisioned this mod (more on that at the very bottom).
From left-to-right: Malacath's Hammer, Vaermina's Nightmare, Sanguine's Temptation, Wickwheat Whiskey, Spirits of Light & Magic, Khartag's Courage, Dagoth's Downfall.

FINE WINES
The LFL mod include 'house wines' for the 3 joinable houses in Morrowind. With permission from Danae, I expanded on that to include the other 2 houses.
In the game, pomegranates are mentioned as a rare fruit growing around Red Mountain. These were added by by mods like OAAB Pomegranates & Momento Mori.
IRL: The Russians & one town in Japan make wine from cabbage.

Danae for her help, for Lore Friendly Libations (the inspiration for this mod), & permission to use the House Wine Idea.
The Morrowind Discord community & the r/TES3Mods subreddit. I'm not exactly active but the info is pure gold. The January modding event & it's classes were invaluable & helped to create this mod & many others.
If I have inadvertently used any asset without permission, please let me know and I will remove it with many apologies!
If I've forgotten to credit you, please let me know!

SUPERFLUOUS BACKGROUND INFO:
**************************
Back in 2015 I made a mod for Skyrim called Spirits of Skyrim (its still here on Nexus). It was a reduced version of the full mod I was working on called Spirits of Nirn. The immediate feedback was that many did not like my textures for the bottles. It was really valid feedback but I couldn't figure out what was 'wrong' aside from a lack of skill (I'm still a shit texture artist btw). It was a bit paralyzing so the mod was never finished.
9 years later I returned to Morrowind & used a mod called Lore Friendly Libations (LFL) which adds 70+ beverages. I decided to retexture the bottles since they didn't quite fit with the graphic overhauls I used. After retexturing nearly every drink, it finally hit me what I did wrong with Sprits...and was doing wrong again: too many damn labels! I had all the beverage bottles lined up in my bar but the LFL bottles still stuck out ---because most beverages do not have labels. Duh.
Vintage Morrowind definitely has bottles with labels but I limited those to the alcohol types where it made sense: wines & 3 of the beer options.
The alcohol making rabbit-hole....
Alcohol mods always start with researching alcohol. I did this for Spirits of Nirn & now again for Morrowind. Several drink names are historical or plays on historical names. If I ever create The Lesser House Distillery, I may add a few more.
Future Plans...or not....
If you use Tooltips Complete, Vintage Morrowind includes custom tooltips which frequently mention The Lesser House Distillery. It would have been a remotely located building that players could visit to not only buy some of the drinks but would have some of them locked until the player provided the ingredients. I have zero confidence in my ability to create that at the moment but maybe I'll get over myself one day...
