The default game fog has a few problems
  • It's kind of everywhere, including inside buildings, just as strong as it is outside
  • It's ALWAYS around, very rarely do you see clear weather
  • It only starts 50 metres in front of your character, and disappears as you approach it
  • Which also makes your PC feel separate from the scene (because the PC is much more contrasty than the scene)

Ultra Fog reworks all the fog in the game to fix these issues and make it much more immersive
  • Brings the fog right up around your PC, which makes you feel like you're "in" the scene
  • Fogs are much more distinct and each has their own feel
  • Some fogs now interact with wind
  • Fogs now interact with light sources, including lights at night, and the sun and moon
  • Fogs now have albedo and inscattering to simulate real fog
  • Changes the default fog to "clear", with occasional tufts of fog

Note 1: You will generally see "less" fog in-game, but don't worry, when you do see fog you will know about it! 😊

Note 2: This doesn't change small areas of surface fog (for example the hill above the pond in Hogsmeade). I haven't found those assets yet, so they still disappear as you approach them.


New Fog Types

  • Clear – is actually properly clear weather
  • Foggy – is now really foggy, like pea-soup fog, super atmospheric at night
  • Misty – feels like a light, damp mist surrounding you
  • Sanctuary – Windy fog, with a light ground fog
  • Rainy – Doesn't happen with all rain, but some rain now comes with a light haze of fog
  • Light Fog — A realistic light fog that interacts with light sources
  • Default — (This is the main fog) Clear, with gentle wind with light fog floating by


How to Install

  • Copy the Paks to Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods (you will need to make this folder if you don't have any mods yet), or use a mod manager
  • Optionally, add the following lines to %LocalAppData%\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Engine.ini

Note: To get the full effect of Ultra Fog install Ultra Plus (this is not required, however).


Known Issues

The Hogwarts and Hogsmeade maps are covered in fog. I'm not sure what's causing this and trying to find a workaround. You can still click on the maps as usual it's just annoying.

I've tested this a lot, but it's a very difficult mod to test, because there are soooo many variations of fog across the whole game.
