Ultra Fog is designed to work with override Alternative Weather Visuals but you can also use these mods separately.

This mod is a WIP. There will be problems, but people keep asking me about it so it's back 😊

The goal of this mod is to make CP look much more cohesive and realistic (according to me), by fixing the overly-bright fog, steam, cigarettes, cigars, vehicle steam/smoke, grenades, and other particle effects ray tracing and path tracing. I've tweaked it to behave more like real fog. Specifically:

  • Made fog is less dense (50% opacity). It can still get really foggy, but now it's not "always really foggy or clear" with not much in between
  • Increased cloud inscattering. This makes the sky have a lot more influence on the overall scene during the day and in certain weather. I like how this looks in Cyberpunk
  • Decreased brightness of many steam, smoke, cigarette, vehicle exhaust etc. effects to between to better fit the scene, but this depends on the situation. For example in the car with Dex (the asshole) the smoke is cinematic so I've left it strong (but I have adjusted it). But steam from food, air conditioners, and vehicles is no longer unbelievably strong... Liquid nitrogen cooling is still strong, however. I've referenced a lot of IRL scenes to try and get these right.
  • Adjusted bloom so it's not so crazy. I get it, bloom is a mood, but a lot of the lighting / LUT mods we use now don't look great with huge bloom (again imo... I'm going for a particular feel)
  • Reduced vehicle exhaust brightness
  • Reduced cigarette smoke brightness
  • Reduced drug and inhaler brightness
  • Reduced toxic gas grenades and effects brightness
  • Increased some sparks effects
  • Increased the number of particles in some effects and improved the variability of particle effects
  • Made dust from some destructibles less bright
  • Reduced brightness of some distant fog

There are a LOT of files to modify here so lmk in Posts if you notice any weird steam (haven't touched black smoke for now, but again lmk if you find any that needs fixing). As always, please let me know any feedback in Posts 😊

How to Install

  • Use a mod manager or copy the archive file to /archive/pc/mod (there is now only one version, since CP 2.1 no longer uses rays)
  • Ultra Fog needs to be loaded first to get full effect, which is why it starts with "!!!"
  • Play! 😊

Compatibility

Ultra Fog modifies env files and is designed to override other main ENV mods, however, if you don't like this, rename it to start with ZZ to load after them, and it will still apply the smoke/steam/etc. changes.

FAQ

Can I use Ultra Fog without path tracing or ray tracing?
Spoiler:
Show

Yup! it works for any configuration! 😊 However I'm not sure how the steam and other particle effects look without PT or RT
