The Ranger Cabin Home Settlement is an awesome location for a base, and the relaxing atmosphere deserves a bit of TLC in the settlement building department. Unashamedly requiring quite a few mods to decorate it properly, if you do the graft to get them and install this you won't be disappointed!

The Ranger Cabin is a great location due to its proximity to Sanctuary, so you can get there and install this blueprint pretty much right away. That will set you up with a ready supply of pure water, dirty water + razorgrain, once you assign your settlers to look after it.
UPDATE: There is now a collection Ranger Cabin Pimped which will bring in all required mods (35 so far!) to save you the grind of installing them.
Before installing via Transfer Settlements, walk to the location, claim the workshop and scrap all the rubbish inside the cabin and around the place (logs and branch piles etc.) You can even scrap the three workbenches, as these are placed as part of the import, but remember to check the option to import items not built by the player. Here is the full list of instructions:
Do a full save, just in case
Scrap all items inside the cabin
Scrap branch piles and logs (leave trees for now)
Scrap the three workbenches
In Transfer Settlements make sure the option to import items not built by the player is checked
Perform the import
As per TS instructions leave the area for two in-game days. Note the Ranger Cabin, Sanctuary, Abernathy Farm and Concord are in the same cell, so you need to go somewhere further afield.
On return, walk the ramparts and scrap amy trees which get in your way
Assign settlers to defence, farming the razorgrain and their beds
You may have to manually connect power lines.
Inside the cabin the shower will remove all radiation, just step in and turn it on then off. Storage is available for magazines, bobbleheads and holotapes. There is a power amor station over in the greenhouse.
TIP: If you are playing with Sim Settlements 2, set up your first recruitment beacon at Sanctuary, so The Stranger comes there to school you on ASAMS. You don't want him turning up at the Ranger Cabin, as there isn't enough room to add plots.
