1. DESCRIPTION
===============

"Better Armoury Mod (BAM) - Weapon Racks and More" adds a selection of new Workshop items to Fallout 4, all themed around building armoury or gunsmith-workshop type locations. Weapon racks, ammo cans, appropriately-themed posters, etc. The items in BAM should help you to create a more convincing weapon workshop or armoury than is possible with just the peg-board weapon racks from the Contraptions DLC.

This mod was split off from Project Extend And Change Everything (PEACE), so its objects are duplicates of those found in PEACE. If you want to use PEACE, you should uninstall BAM first.

See the Playing The Mod section below for detailed information on the items added by BAM and how to use them.

On a personal note, I realised recently (at the time of writing) that 2019 marks twenty years since I first released a mod on the Internet. (That's just releasing mods - I've been making them for longer still. I must be getting old.)

One reason for BAM's release is to mark the occasion - so here's to twenty years of releasing mods. :-)

===============
2. Requirements
===============

- Fallout 4
- Contraptions Workshop
- Settlement Menu Manager

========================
3. INSTALLATION/UNINSTALLATION
========================

Installation:

- Install Settlement Menu Manager first if you haven't already.

- Simply install BAM as usual using a mod manager like Nexus Mod Manager, Mod Organiser or Vortex.
--- A manual install should be fine too, but I'll just assume you know what you're doing there.

- After installation, all BAM files - including the readme (please read the readme) - will be found in your \Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4\Data\ directory.

- BAM should be okay virtually anywhere in your load order, but please see the Conflicts/Known Issues section for information on any potential conflicts.

- BAM uses an ESL-flagged ESP plugin, so it will not take up a load order "slot".

Uninstallation:

- As is generally the case with Fallout 4 mods, this is not recommended for ongoing save-games. It's better to wait until you've finished with that particular character.

- Disable/delete as usual using your mod manager.
--- For manual uninstalls, delete all BAM-related files from your \Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4\Data\ directory. Check the BAM archive file you downloaded to identify these files.

=====================
4. PLAYING THE MOD
=====================

BAM uses Settlement Menu Manager to safely add a new Workshop menu category. All the new items added by BAM are found under this category:
Decorations -> (BAM) Better Armory Mod

- Weapon Racks added:
--- These are an alternative to the weapon display peg boards from the Contraptions DLC, and use the same script.
--- Three types to choose from; see just below.

- M12 Weapon Rack
--- Based on the venerable US Army M12 "Rack, Storage, Small Arms", which was designed to store M16 rifles.
--- Modular setup; the frame is placed and then multiple mounts are snapped into it. The top of the frame is also a separate piece, to allow space for mounting larger weapons if necessary.
--- Made to fit weapons similar in size/shape to AR-15s, but accepts anything but Heavy and Unarmed weapons.
--- Two mount variants are available. Type A has a lower rifle attach position, and Type B has a higher rifle attach position. If your rifle is sticking into the ground with Type A, try Type B.
--- The frame snaps horizontally with other M12 frames, and vertically with other M12 or M14 frames.
--- This reference image should help in using the M12 Weapon Rack.

- M14 Pistol Rack
--- Based on the venerable US Army M14 "Rack, Storage, Small Arms", which was designed to store M9 and M11 pistols.
----- This M14 rack is not quite as close to its inspiration as the M12 rack, since the real-world M14 rack is mostly an enclosed box, and the idea here in BAM is to have the weapons on display.
--- Modular setup; the frame is placed and then multiple mounts are snapped into it. The top of the frame is also a separate piece, to allow for more space or greater visibility.
--- Made to fit pistols similar in size/shape to Glocks, M1911s, M9s, etc - but accepts anything but Heavy and Unarmed weapons.
----- (In other words you can put rifles or melee weapons in it, but it's really not designed for it, and it may be a bit awkward to use that way.)
--- Two mount variants are available. Type A has a rifle attach position that is closer to the front, while Type B has the rifle positioned further back.
--- The frame snaps horizontally with other M14 frames, and vertically with other M14 or M12 frames. (Snapping vertically is easier with a top piece attached.)
--- This reference image should help in using the M14 Pistol Rack.

- Rifle Rack
--- Similar to the M12 Weapon Rack, above, but with a simpler wooden design.
--- Modular setup; multiple "mounts" can be snapped together in a row, and optional endpieces snapped to those mounts.
----- The "press and hold activate" function in Workshop mode is useful to pick up and move a group of mounts that have been snapped together. (Though it can also bring other objects along for the ride if they're too close.)
--- This reference image should help in using the Rifle Rack.

- Pistol Rack, Standing
--- Similar to the Rifle Rack, above, but designed for pistols. Looks best sitting on a table or other raised surface.
--- Modular setup; multiple "mounts" can be snapped together in a row.
----- As with the Rifle Rack, the "press and hold activate" function in Workshop mode is useful to pick up and move a group of mounts that have been snapped together.
--- Made to fit pistol-sized weapons, but accepts anything but Heavy and Unarmed weapons.
--- Two mount variants are available. Type A has a rifle attach position that is closer to the front, while Type B has the rifle positioned further back.
--- This reference image should help in using the Pistol Rack.

- Posters added:
--- New posters mostly aimed at making an armoury or gun workshop feel the part.

- Modular Shelf added:
--- Based on the Vault Shelf model, this is a single free-standing shelf that can be snapped together vertically into shelves of arbitrary height, or horizontally in either direction. (Into neat rows, in other words.)
--- This was added because in Workshop mode it is near impossible to place items on shelves that have other shelves above them; the item will snap to the higher shelf.
--- The process for adding items to one of these Modular Shelves that is below another shelf is still a little finicky, unfortunately - but finicky is better than impossible. I would recommend watching this short video demonstration and/or following these steps:
----- 1) Stack multiple Modular Shelves to the desired height.
----- 2) Pick up the shelf you want to add items to and move it out from under any other shelves. The other shelves will remain floating in place. (I know, I know.)
----- 3) Add items to the shelf.
----- 4) Pick the shelf up again and move it back under the other shelves, snapping it back into place.

- Ammo Box container can now be built. Odd one to not be buildable in the vanilla game.
--- Works well on the Modular Shelves, above.

5. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
===============

Q) Why isn't the "(BAM) Better Armory Mod" Workshop menu category showing up in my game?
A) This could be due to Settlement Menu Manager (SMM) not being installed before BAM, or due to the game's scripting engine tripping over itself. Hard for me to know on my end. To try to fix it: 1) Ensure SMM is installed. 2) Make a clean save with BAM uninstalled. 3) Install BAM and load your clean save. If that doesn't work, check out the troubleshooting info available on SMM's Nexus page.

Q) Mounted weapons are getting in the way of selecting nearby rack mounts. Is there a way around this?
A) See the Known Issues section.

Q) Where are the weapons in the screenshots from?
A) The non-vanilla weapons are from WARS.

Q) Is it "armory" or "armoury"?
A) "Armoury" is the British spelling and what I'm used to as we use British spelling here in Australia - so I used that spelling a lot in the BAM documentation. I used the American spelling "armory" in the mod title though, since I think more people are likely to use that spelling when searching for the mod.

6. SAVE GAMES
===============

- You don't need to start a new game when installing BAM.

- As is generally the case with Fallout 4 mods, it is not recommended to uninstall BAM with an ongoing save-game. It's better to wait until you've finished with that particular character.

============================
7. CONFLICTS / KNOWN ISSUES
============================

Known Issues:

- The weapon racks will accept anything considered by the game to be a pistol, rifle, one-handed melee weapon or two-handed melee weapon - but you should expect some floating or clipping with some weapons, obviously.

- Weapons in Fallout 4 have inflated selection areas, so weapons currently on display may get in the way of selecting adjacent weapon rack mounts. I gave the mounts extended selection areas to try to compensate for this. See the Images tab for some "selection area reference images" that should help with using the racks.

- Moving a weapon rack that currently has a weapon mounted in it will cause the weapon to rotate oddly. Taking the weapon and re-mounting it will fix this.

9. MODDER'S RESOURCE INFO
==========================

You can release something based on BAM without first asking for my permission, provided it meets the conditions I've laid out below. If you're unsure about something after reading this, feel free to contact me to ask about it. I may refine these conditions over time to make it easier on myself and the end-user - and with that in mind I retain the right to do so if necessary. It probably *won't* be necessary to change anything drastically... but just in case.

***If you want to redistribute BAM somewhere:***

This is something I don't give permission for, so please don't. I do like to help people that have some kind of problem using my mods, and this is made much more difficult if they happen to be using a version of the mod from some undisclosed third-party location that may be outdated and/or modified without my knowledge.

I will add an exception here: If - in some distant, dystopian future - Nexus Mods and anywhere else I personally have uploaded BAM to has ceased to exist, AND I'm not around to re-upload BAM somewhere else... then you can upload BAM somewhere so that people can continue to access it. Contact me first and give me time to respond, though. My e-mail address is right there. It's pretty easy.

***If you want to release something that adds to - or alters - BAM:***

This is fine as long as it doesn't break or otherwise invalidate BAM itself. What this amounts to is:

- No straight-up replacements for the plugin (BAM-BetterArmoryMod.esp). Don't just open the plugin up, change something and then redistribute it. This will break - or be broken by - any updates to BAM, or by anyone else who decided to do the same thing as you.

- No merging of BAM into another plugin. This will make an unholy mess if run at the same time as BAM itself.

- In other words it must be dependent on BAM, and cannot have BAM itself bundled with it. Your users will need to download BAM to use your add-on.
--- If you've performed some wizardry and made a mod that can interact with BAM without needing it as an explicit master (and again it doesn't break or invalidate BAM), that's also fine.

- If you believe there's a very good reason I should make an exception for you in regards to something here, please contact me to discuss it.

***If you want to translate BAM into another language:***

The conditions for this are the same as for releasing anything else that adds to - or alters - BAM.

If there's some technical reason why this isn't possible for a translation, please contact me to discuss it. I can amend these conditions if that turns out to be the case.

***If you want to release something based on art assets from BAM:***

BAM is a modder's resource - for Fallout 4 mods. (See below if you want to use assets from BAM in something other than a mod for Fallout 4.)

You do need to provide credit for what you use, though. Something like "M12 Weapon Rack mesh and textures from Better Armory Mod (BAM), by Antistar" for example, ideally with a link to BAM's Nexus page.

If you want to use assets from BAM in something other than a Fallout 4 mod, this is only possible for the assets that were not themselves derived from base Fallout 4 assets. That's not my stipulation; that's up to Bethsoft, not me. But hey, if you can back up whatever you're doing with a letter from a Bethsoft lawyer saying that it's okay, go for your life. Like I said, it's not up to me. Just - y'know - be classy and provide credit for what you've used.

In any case, if you're unsure what is and isn't based on original Fallout 4 assets, feel free to ask me. It should be fairly obvious what's what for anyone familiar with Fallout 4, though.

Any resources in BAM that are free to use in other projects can only be used in non-commercial projects.

12. VERSION HISTORY
=================

Version 1.0.2 (18-12-22)
- Added M14 Pistol Rack.

Version 1.0.1 (19-11-19)
- Added "Type B" variants of the M12 Weapon Rack, Rifle Rack and Pistol Rack mount items. The rifle attach position in these variants is higher, to better fit the rifles that were previously clipping into the ground when mounted on the M12 and Rifle Racks. (Or further back, in the case of the Pistol Rack's rifle attach position.)
- The existing M12 Weapon Rack, Rifle Rack and Pistol Rack mount items were renamed to be "Type A" mounts. (No other changes.)
- BAM's Workshop items were moved from the vanilla Workshop menu categories to a custom menu category, added via Settlement Menu Manager (which is now a requirement). This should eliminate problems related to using BAM alongside mods that mess around with the vanilla Workshop menu categories. The new category is found here: Decorations -> (BAM) Better Armory Mod.
- Removed edit to DLC05workshop_co_PoweredPoster as it was no longer needed.

Version 1.0 (16-11-19)
- Initial public release.
