Prepare for the ultimate Long War challenge! Long War: Eternal Nightmare unleashes cunning and deadly aliens, forcing you to adapt and overcome engaging tactical challenges with unpredictable twists. Experience enhanced game feel and unique replayability. Can you survive the Eternal Nightmare?
- Hybrid Overwatch System: Experience a unique blend of Long War and Long War Rebalance's Overwatch systems, creating more dynamic and strategic firefights.
- Gunners transfer ammo: Gunners gain the ability to transfer ammunition to their allies, adding a new layer of support to their role.
- Robot Hacking: Engineers can now hack alien robots, turning the tide of battle against the alien invaders.
- Panic Shot: Snipers can trigger "Panic Shot" among alien ranks by eliminating a leader or elite enemy, causing nearby aliens to hunker down in fear.
- Realistic Vector Impulse: Enhanced ragdoll physics adds a visceral touch to explosions, sending alien bodies flying.
- Deflection System: Incoming fire can now disrupt rocket and acid cloud attacks, causing them to deviate and potentially inflict friendly fire on the aliens themselves.
- Shotgun Rework: Laser and Pulse Shotguns now have area-of-effect (AoE) attacks, providing new tactical options for close-quarters combat.
- Ricochet Shot: Ricochet Shots add a thrilling element of chance to Cyberdisc encounters. Shots fired at closed Cyberdiscs have a small chance to ricochet to nearby units (friend or foe!), adding a layer of unpredictable excitement to your tactical decisions.
- Piercing Shot: Unleash devastating multi-kills with the new Piercing Shot mechanic! Snipers with Double Tap (and any unit with the Piercer perk) can now pierce through multiple enemies lined up in their sights.
- Death Grenades and Camera Shake Effects: Death Grenades and intense camera shake effects bring a new level of danger and excitement to Long War: Eternal Nightmare! Mutons, Elite Mutons, and Heavy Floaters can now leave behind live grenades when they die, forcing you to adapt and strategize like never before.
- RIP Thats XCOM Baby!: Tired of "That's XCOM, baby!" moments? Eternal Nightmare introduces a new Luck-Based Post-Mission Attribute system. Soldiers who survive missions with less favorable RNG rolls have a higher chance to receive permanent stat bonuses (Aim, HP, Will, Speed), rewarding players for overcoming adversity. Luck calculation was provided by Ucross (Creator of LW Rebalance).
- Enhanced Alien AI: Aliens are now more challenging! They will automatically enter Overwatch when revealed, can call for reinforcements, and are more numerous. Many aliens also gain special abilities, demanding more strategic gameplay from you. AI improvements are an ongoing focus and will continue to be refined and expanded in future updates. We encourage you to share your feedback on the AI in the comments section so I can continue to improve it!
- Biotank Retaliation: When heavily attacked, Biotanks may unleash a reaction shot, simulating their "enough is enough!" moment.
- Lock 'n Load: The Lock 'n Load perk now allows soldiers to enter Overwatch after dashing, opening up new tactical possibilities.
- "Comeback" Systems: Secrets "Comeback" feature is in place, with more additions planned for the future. Discover its secrets!
- Dynamic Alien Progression: Alien progression is now tied to their resource levels. Eliminating UFOs, destroying alien facilities, and killing certain alien leaders will reduce their resources, slowing down their tech advancements and the appearance of more advanced units. Conversely, failing to disrupt their supply lines will allow them to progress more rapidly.
- SHIV Rework: SHIVs have been reworked to be more reliant on Engineer support, becoming significantly more effective when paired with Engineers, increasing their survivability. Additionally, certain Engineer abilities may provide buffs or bonuses to SHIVs (on progress), making them a powerful combined arms unit.
- Enhanced Sound Effects: Immerse yourself in the action with a variety of new sound effects, with ongoing improvements and additions.
- Item Perks: Items now provide unique perks. For example, the AR Targeted item grants the "Holo Rounds" perk.
- Run & Gun (Tactical Support with Combat Readiness): Assaults now grant Combat Readiness to all adjacent biological allies when they activate the Run and Gun ability. This allows for increased tactical flexibility and faster squad movement. Combat Readiness is a feature from LW Rebalance that provides a suite of buffs, including increased mobility, aim, and graze chance.
- Ghost Kill: Scouts who eliminate an alien while remaining unseen (except for scout's victim), with a flanking shot, and while Hit and Run is active, are granted a buff based on their kill streak. The streak resets when no active aliens remain.
- Whispers of the Resistance: This new feature aims to make civilians feel more like active participants in the fight against the alien invaders. When you rescue a civilian and there are no active aliens in the immediate vicinity, the XCOM soldier who rescued them will be granted a temporary 'Motion Tracker' effect for one turn.
This mod is currently in beta. While many features are implemented and working, there may still be undiscovered bugs or areas for improvement. I am actively working on testing and refining the mod. This project would not have been possible without you. Your proficiency and programming skills were instrumental. Your dedication to helping others is admirable and inspirational. (P.S. Sorry for sometimes breaking things with my blind changes! :D)
"You start a project with very high hopes and expectations and visions of what the game is going to be and how awesome it's going to be. Some of those are realized and some of those are not. In the middle of the game, not everything works, not everything looks as good as it should and you're a little burnt out. You've seen it a hundred times. You're maybe wondering whether you're the only one that's having fun, the only one that likes this game, the only one that believes in it. You have to push through that with a little bit of faith. ... That's the Valley of Despair." — Sid Meier
