Some of Stardew's trees are now playing host to plants of their own!   This pack includes five epiphytes from the real world, produced from regular trees that have been specially prepared to host (and have colors tweaked so you can tell the difference between them and your vanilla trees.)

UPDATE 1.1.0: This update adds a CP pack which gives letters for different plants, as well as NPCs who will tell you about the various plants and what you can make from them.  (Also includes various bugfixes and tweaks.  Will cause a shuffle due to renaming the Mistletoe item, so please sell those before you update!)

The pack includes:

Air plants (Tillandsia ionantha) on the palm tree: Normally native to Central America (but can also be found in Florida), these small plants are well-adapted to living on nothing but air and an occasional spritz with a water bottle, hence their common name.  Because of this, they're very popular as low-maintenance house plants.  Domestic cultivation has created them in a wide variety of colors and shapes.

Mistletoe (Viscum album) on the mahogany tree: This popular symbol of Christmas is actually a parasitic plant, sinking roots directly into its host's branches.  It is associated with fertility (due to its white berries) in several cultures, and is also historically used as a ward against witches and demons.  (It will not prevent the witch from visiting your farm, sorry/you're welcome.)

Reindeer Lichen (Cladonia rangiferina) on the pine tree: This branched lichen, common on many types of trees, is perhaps most known to the average person as the "moss" used for decorative purposes at your local craft store or in terrarriums. It is actually edible to both humans and animals!  This particular species can be eaten raw or boiled.

Spanish Moss (Tillandsia usneoides) on the oak tree: A common sight in subtropical or marshy areas of the southern United States, this close relative of the air plant forms long drapes over the branches of large deciduous trees, giving them one of their common names of "grandpa's beard".  They're commonly used in decorations or as stuffing material. There's a popular myth that they contain chiggers--they don't, but they DO usually have bugs, so you still don't want to bring wild ones in your house!

Vanilla Orchid (Vanilla planifolia) on the maple tree: Orchids are often popular for their showy flowers, but in the vanilla orchid's case, it's even more prized for its seed pods, which are the source of natural vanilla.  Because of declining numbers (it's an endangered species) and the small size of the plant and harvest, it is the second most expensive spice in the world (after saffron).  Think twice before you consider "vanilla" bland and ordinary!

The Details:

They can be bought in the following places and produce the following items:
Spoiler:
Show

  • Air plant trees, Spanish moss trees, and vanilla orchid trees are purchased from Sandy, while Dwarf sells the reindeer lichen trees and mistletoe trees. All sell for 5000, except the orchid which sells for 7000.
  • Air plants sell well, and can be crafted into a decorative terrarium.
  • Mistletoe produces berries when put in a seed maker, which can be used to craft a protective potion to buff your defense (demons hate it!).  It can also be used to craft a decorative stand (perfect for kissing near!)
  • Reindeer Lichen can be crafted into grass starters and a decorative terrarium.  It can also be used in a furnace to bake bread.
  • Spanish Moss can produce fiber in a wood chipper, can produce thread on a loom, and can be crafted into an indoor and outdoor decorative lamp.  You can even make a Junimo plushie that is loved by kids!
  • Vanilla Orchids sell well and are popular gifts, and can be crafted into a decorative pot.  When put in a seed maker, it produces vanilla beans, which can be used to craft vanilla flavoring.

NPCs who love (or hate!) things in this pack include:
Stardew Valley Expanded
Ridgeside Village (includes 2.0 NPCs)
Lunna: Astray in Stardew Valley
Lemurkat's mods (East Scarp, Jasper, Juliet and Jessie)
Lucikiel and Lavril
Always Raining in the Valley

A HUGE thank you to Taiyokun, who did the art for the crops, the decorative items, and the goods.  He also did the Portuguese translation available with this pack!  Isso e bom!

Now available in Chinese, thanks to Heirenseo!  Xie xie!

Future Plans:

  • Quests: Fetch some items, get cool things!
  • Further custom NPC integration: Maaaaaybe?
