Huntsman - A Hunting Expansion

Huntsman is a hunting mod designed to make hunting feel more rewarding and add new and exciting things to experience for a hunter playstyle. In addition to new animals and items, huntsman adds cookable food items for several existing animals such as bears and foxes to allow you to survive in the wilds from more diverse animals. It is highly recommended to run this mod with ApothecaryFood and the included Apothecary Patch in order to make new food recipes feel more impactful and food more valuable.

New Items

The following are new items you can find dropped from animals and in the world. Some are acquired from hunters and others from hunting animals.

Spoiler:
Show
Animal Bones - Dropped from most animals, it can be ground up into Bone Meal or used in several new crafting recipes described below.
Bear Trap - While these do normally exist in the vanilla game, they can now be crafted at the forge or bought from hunter npcs in the wild and armed in the world.
Bear Trap (Upgraded) - Does more damage overall than a normal bear trap. Really quite deadly and requires more rare materials.
Bear Meat - Pretty much how it sounds. You get a few from each bear (they're quite big).
Fox Meat - Not particularly tasty but you can eat it I guess?
Sabrecat Meat - A little bit stringy but you get several from each sabrecat. Yum!
Wolf Meat - Pretty tough and chewy but also technically edible.

New Animals

Huntsman introduces many new animals, some of which are completely new and others, variants of existing animals found in new places or with much improved combat challenge.

Spoiler:
Show
Black Sabrecat - These Sabrecat are smaller and more agile, typically inhabiting Skyrim's forested areas for prey.
Wild Chicken - These chicken have either escaped from captivity or have grown up in the wild. They can be found anywhere rabbits or other small animals roam.
Pheasant - These are alive versions of the hanging Pheasants that can be found anywhere rabbits or wild chickens spawn.
Alpha Wolves - These wolves are larger wolf pack leaders, originally in the game files and now enabled for your enjoyment (or not).
Mad Skeever - The skeever's bigger and angrier cousin. Can be found nearly anywhere a normal skeever would, including hanging out with draugr or hagravens.
Wild Bristleback - Normally only found in Solstheim, a new, smaller variant of the Bristleback can be found around Skyrim's plains, forests and swamps.
King Crab - While rare, deadly King Crabs can sometimes be found in streams or on the coast. They are not to be taken lightly and will put up a fight.

New Food

With several new types of meat, it only makes sense that you can make juicy new food items with them, each with their own unique models. Some may be tastier than others!

Spoiler:
Show

Compatibility

If you are using Bellyache's Animal and Creature Pack, I recommend using the vanilla option so animal appearances don't conflict with ones I've added. This mod has the potential to conflict with any other mods that edit ambient or predator creature lists. As always, check in xEdit if you're not sure!
