About this mod

Transforms Vvardenfell's most premier and exclusive neighborhood into something far more worthy of the name 'High Town'. Made for the 2023 Summer Modjam.

"High Town, on the hill to the west, has the Tribunal Temple, Hlaalu Council Hall, rich manors, better shops, and the Morag Tong guildhall."

- Guide to Balmora

"Do you get to High Town very often? Oh, what am I saying? Of course you don't."

- Stargel, probably

With a name like High Town, I always had a sense that Balmora's manor district was supposed to be a particularly exclusive and upper class neighborhood. Yet, aside from physically being a bit more elevated, and a bit nicer furniture in the interiors, there wasn't much to distinguish High Town from the rest of the city. With "Do You Get to High Town Very Often?" however, there will no longer be any mistaking where High Town ends and the rest of Balmora begins, and the Hlaalu Nobility can now truly look down upon the plebian masses far below them.

Mod Features

1. Exterior Overhaul:

The exterior of High Town has been transformed with a retaining wall around the entire district, a handful of new buildings, private gardens attached to each of the three original residential manors, a public gazebo in the northeast corner of the district, decorated and lightly cluttered balconies, and several exterior details for most of the buildings such as chimneys and windows.

2. The Citadel of Brevur:

By far the most imposing of the new buildings is the Citadel of Brevur, towering high above the rest of the city. Attached to and accessed via the main Hlaalu Council Manor, the Citadel houses large public chambers, private offices, and the Balmora Treasury.

3. The Chapel of Mara:

The Chapel of Mara sits on the main square of High Town, where Nerano manor used to sit. Its construction was funded by wealthy Hlaalu converts to the Imperial Cult, and is built and decorated primarily in the native Hlaalu style. Mara being the goddess of love and marriage also makes this modest chapel Vvardenfell's premier location for Imperial Cult weddings.

4. Nerano Manor Expansion:

Nerano Manor is not gone, but has been moved to the unoccupied northwestern corner of High Town. In the process it has gotten a bit of an upgrade with a new private walled off alcove, and a detached servant quarters.

5. Changes to Vanilla Interiors:

Vanilla interiors have had windows and fireplaces added where appropriate to match the exterior changes. I have tried to keep these changes to a minimum for maximum compatibility.

6. Optional Integration Plugin:

I have included an optional integration patch that moves some vanilla characters into these new cells, changes a few lines of vanilla dialogue to reference the changes to High Town,  and provides some integration with the new locations for some vanilla quests as well as one quest from my Broadsheets and Notice Boards mod. These changes have been made to give your character a reason to actually visit the new locations. They should be completely safe to use for the vast majority of mods, but they could cause problems for a handful out there, so they have been kept separate, again for compatibility's sake. A full list of changes can be found in a spoilers txt in the mod file.

Compatibility

DYGTHTVO will be incompatible with most mods that make major changes to Balmora and especially High Town, but I have tried to make it compatible with several popular mods.

Here is the known compatibility status for several mods:

Bell Towers of Vvardenfell and Balmora Temple Redone by Markond - Compatible
OAAB Balmora Redecorated by  Lucevar - Compatible
Leeches Always Bite Twice by MelchiorDahrk et al. - Compatible
Balmora Waterworks by mwgek - Compatible (Pathgrid patch available)
Brevur of Balmora - Finally Some Good Statue Mod by Reizeron - Compatible (Replacement patch available)
Dras the Dunmer Legionnaire by qwertyquit - Compatible (Use the Dras version of the integration plugin)
Pillow Mage Manor by Stuporstar and Denina - Compatible (Replacement patch available)
Balmora Rooftop Apartments by WulfShaman - Compatible (Use the Balmora Rooftop Apartments version of the main ESP)

And finally the big one:

Beautiful Cities of Morrowind by RandomPal - Untested/Presumed incompatible (If someone tests this, please go ahead and let me know.)

Installation

1. Install all of the files in the file marked "00 Core".

2. Choose and install one of the "01 Main ESP" files. If you use Balmora Rooftop Apartments, use this version. Otherwise, use the vanilla version.

3. Choose and install one of the "02 Pathgrid Override" files. If you are using Balmora Waterworks, choose this file. If your Balmora is mostly using the vanilla layout,  choose the Vanilla Canal file. If you are using any mods that overly change the layout of Balmora - especially mods the change the layout of the river - then don't use either of these plugins, and instead rely on whatever other mod is changing your city layout for your pathgrids. "DYGTHTVO Pathgrid Override.ESP" should be loaded at or very near the bottom of your load order.

3. If you want the integration features mentioned above, install one of the "03 Integration" files. Use the Dras version if you are using Dras the Dunmer Legionnaire. If you do not want any of these changes, skip this step.

4. If you use Brevur of Balmora, install the "04 Brevur of Balmora" file and make sure the plugin replaces the original plugin file. If you want to use this patch you will need to install the resource files from the original mod.

5. If you use Pillow Mage Manor, install the "05 Pillow Mage Manor" File. You'll also need the resources from Pillow Mage Manor.
