"Hope you got what you were looking for inside my head. Heh. I was right. Should've killed you when you were on ice..."

Mind Games is an upcoming quest mod for Fallout 4. Take on a new detective case with Nick Valentine, where you find yourself entangled amongst various factions vying for control over the sewers and tunnels beneath Boston, while facing the consequences of the search for your son - everything from Skinny Malone to Jenny / K1-98, from the Institute's machinations to Kellogg's lingering presence. Meet new characters, make tough choices, spend more time with your companions, and explore new locations.

This demo is being released as an early access preview, and covers the prologue of the mod's story. Depending on play style and how much you explore, you can expect around 6 hours of content. All characters, including the player, are fully voiced.

Livestream:
If you'd like to see the mod in action before downloading it, you can check out Kinggath livestreaming the first part of it here!

Demo Features:
  • A brand new town in the Commonwealth called The Sluice, complete with new characters, vendors and side quests.
  • The first three to four main quests of Mind Games, as well as three side quests and other miscellaneous quests.
  • A story that reacts to what you've previously done in and around the Commonwealth.
  • Quest outcomes that depend on skill checks, previous choices, and on what companions you have with you.
  • One new companion.
  • A player home with an immersive fast travel option.
  • New enemies.
  • New factions, with a reputation system that tracks how much they like you.
  • New underground areas to explore, which connect The Sluice to other locations such as Diamond City.
  • New settlers to recruit.
  • Custom music.
  • Custom animated quest icons.
  • Voiced player character.

Requirements:
  • Fallout 4 version 1.10.163 or later (in other words, old-gen and next-gen are both fine)
  • All the DLC

How to start:
  • Nick and Piper must both be alive and recruitable.

  • You must have gone through Kellogg's memories and found the Institute.

  • As long as both the above requirements are met, the first quest will start a few seconds after you load into the game. Depending on how far you are in the vanilla main quest (or whether you've finished it), this first quest will either be "Case Closed" or "The Young Miss Roberts".

  • If "Case Closed" is your first quest, "The Young Miss Roberts" will start 24 in-game hours after you complete "Case Closed".

  • If you have not yet found the Institute, "Case Closed" will begin soon after you meet Father.

  • If you have a mod that keeps Kellogg alive or skips the Institute but you want to play Mind Games anyway, use console command SetStage ONMG_MQ01_Radio 10 and "The Young Miss Roberts" should start. You may encounter bugs however.

Compatibility:
It's impossible to ensure compatibility with every other mod out there but we have tested this alongside, or had reports about, the following, so we know / believe they're compatible:
  • Amazing Follower Tweaks / Liga of My Companions / Unlimited Companion Framework (but see important note about companion frameworks below)
  • America Rising 2
  • Attack of the Lobotomites
  • The Bleachers / Fens Sherriff Department
  • Crime and Punishment
  • Danse Dilemma
  • Diamond City Expansion
  • A Forest
  • Fourville
  • Goodneighbor Expanded / Better Goodneighbor
  • Gun For Hire
  • Heather Casdin
  • I'm Darlene
  • The Machine And Her
  • PANPC / PACE
  • Sim Settlements 2
  • South of the Sea
  • Subversion
  • Tales From the Commonwealth
  • Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch
  • We Are The Minutemen
  • X-Cell
  • XDI - but, if you're on old-gen, you will need Wolfmark's patch so you can see the dialogue prompts, which will add context to dialogue choices.

Known incompatibilities and issues:
  • Because Mind Games is an extension of the vanilla story, some story elements won't make sense if you're not playing as the Sole Survivor (e.g alternate start mods and spouse companion mods). Technically, the mod will still work - it's just a narrative conflict.

  • In Depravity, it's possible to do the main quest without entering Kellogg's memories. If you've never entered Kellogg's memories, Mind Games will not start.

  • If you're running Old World Radio 2, use the settings holotape to recall the Enclave eyebots, as these can cause dialogue scenes to freeze.

  • If you are using a companion framework mod, DO NOT use that mod to recruit/dismiss Nick (for the duration of this demo) or Katelyn, the new companion. Instead, make sure you only manage them by talking to them.

  • It's been reported that the changes that GalacTac Retribution makes to the vanilla story might stop Mind Games from starting. If so, please use the console command posted above.

FAQ:
Why does the mod make references to things that happened in the vanilla story?
Because it's an expansion of the vanilla story.

Does the mod use AI voices?
No. The vanilla characters' lines (including the player) are taken from the base game.

Does this require a new game?

No, you can add it to an existing game, including one where you've completed the main quest. Mind Games' story will adapt depending on the state of the vanilla factions.

Will this be on Xbox?
This demo will not be on XBox, but I hope that the final mod will be.

Are you recruiting?
Yes! If you're interested in helping out on the mod, please get in touch (ideally on Discord).

Can I support the project?
Yes! Here's a link to the Patreon. Alternatively, here's my Ko-fi link. But this is completely optional. Both this demo and the
final mod will always be 100% free.

Where can I report bugs and find help?
Please join the Discord. Diagnosing and solving issues is much easier if we can chat back and forth.

Is this an episodic mod?

No, the mod will not be released in chapters or episodes. This is just an early access. The full mod will be released later.

Will it be safe to upgrade from the demo to the final release in the same save game?
No. I would suggest keeping a save game from before you start the demo, and then going back to that when the full
version releases.

When will the final mod be released?
I'll announce a release date when I know I can stick to it.

What can you say about the full mod?
The full mod will be a roughly 20-hour experience, with additional locations, factions and companions to the ones featured in this demo, as well as a branching story with new ways to end the vanilla main quest. Kellogg doesn't feature
much in this prologue but he'll have more of an impact in the later stages of the story when the full mod releases
. Here's
a sneak peek of what to expect later.

Special Thanks:
I have never made a mod before and it goes without saying that this would have been impossible without the people who shared their knowledge through modding tutorials or just being there to answer questions. In particular, I never would have attempted this without Kinggath's Bethesda Mod School. Thank you:
