About this mod

This proof of concept demonstrates a way to overlay additional clothing to vanilla apparel. This mod introduced a body armour vest that can be worn together with other apparel. Available for female characters only. Works best with my other clothing re-mesh mods.

Note: This mod was a proof of concept and has now been largely superseded by Enhanced Outfits - Tank Top Accessories

Version 2.0. Updated 0820 UTC 20 Nov 2023.

It turns out that using the hat slot is not ideal for multiple reasons. See the "Technical Notes" section for details.
To update from the previous version, uninstall the old version first, then download the new one.

Version 2.0 now uses the Fishworker Mask slot to add a body armour vest that can be worn together with other clothing.

This mod replaces the female version of the Fishworker Mask with an altered version of the UC security Uniform. Other modded attires that use the mask slot are incompatible.

The Fishworker Mask can be bought from shops or obtained by using the console command:

player.additem 24ef42 1

The vest does not have a morph function. If your character is too muscular or overweight, there'll be clipping artefacts. Thin characters are fine.

The vest works best with the clothing that I have re-meshed, listed here:
Vladimir Sall's Outfit
Amanirenas' Outfit
Franklin Roosevelt's Suit
Mei Devine Dress and the various colour variants
Urban Efficiency Attire/Neocity Hustler Outfit/Urban Operator Outfit
Elbow Grease Gear and Engineering Outfits of various colours
Space Rogue Muscle Gear

The base game version of the above attires hasn't been tested extensively, so they could have clipping issues. Anything bulky, such as those with jackets or ponchos, will not be suitable.

This mode also works with the vanilla naked body.

Modded/remodelled outfits and naked bodies may be compatible, depending on your tolerance for model clipping. If necessary, use the "Custom-made" version (see below).

MAIN FILES - Available in two versions. DOWNLOAD ONLY ONE!

(1) Standard issue: This is for use with the "Vanilla Body" and "Enhanced" versions of my mods. It is also suitable for base-game clothing.

(2) Custom-made: This is for use with the "Enhanced Plus" versions of my mod. The vest has been altered further to make room for...well, you know.

INSTALLATION:
Download via a mod manager (recommended). Alternatively, manually extract the files to your Data folder (in Documents\My Games\Starfield), or if you have Baka Disable My Games Folder, to your game Data folder (../Steam/steamapps/common/Starfield/Data).

Ensure that you have created the StarfieldCustom.ini file in "Documents\My Games\Starfield\" and input the following:
 [Archive]
 bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
 sResourceDataDirsFinal=

Note: The retextures in the images are not included with this mod. Many good ones can be found on Nexus.

TECHNICAL NOTES
I replaced the contents of the "outfit_fishworker_01_mask_f.nif" and the corresponding "...mask_f_facebones.nif" with the UC security upper body nif file. This somehow prevented the vest model from being affected by head movements. A standalone plugin version could be created with this template. I haven't tested it with models on the limbs (such as the sleeves or shoes).

The UC security nif file has been edited to reference a different geometry so it doesn't overwrite the uniform in the base game.

Reasons for using the mask slot for Version 2.0:
- Using mask slots, the vest is automatically unequipped when you wear your spacesuit with or without the helmet, unlike the hat and neuro amp slots, which will only be unequipped when wearing a helmet.
- When wearing the attire, using the hat slot deforms the vanilla hair of the player character and companions. Hair mods without the morph functions appear unaffected.
- The female nif files for the neuro amp don't seem to do anything. You'll need to replace the male versions to make it appear in the game. Unfortunately, like the guy in The Den, male NPCs with neuro amps will also wear the vest.
