About this mod

Utility mod that automatically levels your character to the recommended starting level of any of the 4 story DLC's, and optionally teleports to the entrance of the DLC. Also provides the ability to choose an arbitrary level if none of the preset levels are to your taste. For New Vegas only; no TTW support.

DLC New Game Auto-Leveller
I made this mod primarily for myself, as I find the story DLC's for New Vegas to be some of the best content ever made for a video game. Often I've wanted to just jump into the DLC's without spending a bunch of hours in the Mojave first.

This mod is meant to serve this purpose; jump right into one of the story DLC's with an appropriate starting level, or just skip a bunch of the early game and jump into a stronger character for whatever purpose you want.

This utility works really well for Dead Money, as you pretty much don't have any inventory brought from the Mojave with you, and works moderately well with Honest Hearts in a similar fashion by limiting what you can bring into Zion.

Old World Blues
and Lonesome Road are tougher for this utility to work right out-of-the-gate due to a lack of gear, but if you're resourceful enough you'll make it work.

This is a small mod that will set the Courier's level to either:
  • The recommended starting level for any of the 4 story DLC's
  • Honest Hearts - Level 10
  • Old World Blues - Level 15
  • Dead Money - Level 20
  • Lonesome Road - Level 25
  • Capped to level 21 if the player has the Logan's Loophole Trait and JSawyer (or Ultimate) is loaded
  • Arbitrary level selection up to a maximum, determined by the following heuristic:
  • If JSawyer (or Ultimate) is loaded, a maximum level of 35
  • If Logan's Loophole is taken as a trait, a maximum level of 30
  • If both JSawyer (or Ultimate) and the Logan's Loophole trait is taken, a maximum level of 21
  • None of the above, a maximum level of 50
If selecting one of the preset levels for the DLC's, an optional teleport is provided that will move the player to the entrance of the respective DLC.

If choosing the arbitrary level selection, an optional teleport is provided that can move the player to the entrance of any of the 4 DLC's.

It should be safe to install mid-game, as long as you're higher than level 1; the scripts only run when the player is at level 1.

How To Trigger The Wizard
Once finished creating your character, leave Doc Mitchell's house, and walk through the open fence in front of his house, as you most likely would with any other playthrough.

If this does not trigger the Wizard, simply keep walking away from Doc Mitchell's house, and it should trigger after a few paces.

The Wizard only appears once! Be sure of the selection you make, or you'll have to start a new game again.

Requirements

  • Honest Hearts, Dead Money, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road (duh)

Mod Compatibility

  • New Vegas Quick Start - Fully Compatible; developed with it in mind
  • Delay DLC Redux - Fully Compatible; developed with it in mind. Remember to listen to the right radio broadcast to start the respective DLC!
  • JSawyer Ultimate - Fully Compatible; developed with it in mind
  • Vigor, SawyerBatty, other JSawyer Forks - Not Sure/Tested; various tweaks from those mods make it so I cannot definitively say how this mod will function
  • Vigor, as far as I'm aware, uses the Vanilla XP levelling curve, and not JSawyer, but I'm not sure if the level caps are changed
  • SawyerBatty seems to be the opposite of Vigor; uses Sawyer's XP levelling curve, but removes the level cap
  • Other game balance overhauls I cannot attest to their compatibility, nor do I have the willingness to test
  • TTW - Most Likely Incompatible
  • This mod was not designed for TTW's DLC's or levelling curve.
  • I am not interested in porting this to TTW, nor making any patches for it. Please do not ask.

As far as load order is concerned, it should not matter at all where you put it.

This mod is implemented almost entirely via scripting and event handlers; no edits to base forms are made at all.

Credits

  • The entire xNVSE team; as always, their contributions to keeping this 13-year-old piece of abandonware fantastic game alive are immensely appreciated.
  • JazzIsParis and LuthienAnarion for JIP LN NVSE; the additional functions and event handlers are the only reason this mod works
  • lStewieAl for their amazing Tweaks mod
  • Korri123/Kormákur for Hot Reload; this mod brings an enormous quality-of-life change for scripting in the GECK. Can't recommend it enough for scriptoids.
  • RoyBatty, lStewieAl, carxt/karut, c6 and others for GECK Extender; massive quality-of-life mod for improving how the GECK functions
  • Obsidian for making this incredible game
