Step Modifications is an extensive project gathering and bringing together information from across the community in the form of extensible modding and "how-to" guides. These are step-by-step guides to enhancing games with a focus on quality and performance over quantity. Step tries to stay as close to the 'vanilla' experience as possible, while addressing game bugs, improving visual quality, and correcting game-play mechanics. Our users should always expect an enhanced rendition of the game's original concept and mechanics when following one of our guides.

The Guide
The Step FalloutNV Guide is our official guide for Fallout New Vegas, offering all that is needed to build out an enhanced vanilla experience for the Fallout New Vegas platform. Having gone through several beta releases, we happy to say it's officially released as v1.0!

Features
1. The main plugin provides conflict resolution and cross-mod support, including:
  • patches all mods listed in the guide to utilize the new face textures and meshes added by FCO;
  • adds Sun Guard effects to headgear added by mods in the guide;
  • various other conflict resolution edits;
  • carries forward fixes made by YUP;
  • fixes a problematic texture for one of the bandanas in Spice of Life. Full credit for the texture goes to LynryBarkly and MysteryMachineX (original mod here);
  • fixes a problematic mesh for one of the NCR Helmets. Full credit for the texture goes to Vandarion (original mod here);
  • fixes the Legionary Recruit Armor of Roberts Male Body FNV. Full credit for the mesh goes to Nivea.

2. A pre-configured lStewieAl's Tweaks INI file. The file comes with brief comments/instructions of what each setting does.

Optional Game Settings
See ARTICLES tab on this mod page. Includes edits to the Carry Weight formula, the Health Point formula and the pace at which Hardcore Mode Primary Needs increase. Also increases the chance of the Mysterious Stranger and Miss Fortune appearing. Hopefully, those perks are bettter now.
  • the vanilla Carry Weight formula is changed from 150+STR*10 to 25+STR*25. The idea is to increase the importance of strength and balance the weight capacity to accommodate backpacks in-game.
  • the vanilla Carry Weight formula is changed from 95+END*20+LVL*5 to 50+END*25+LVL*2. The idea is to increase the importance of endurance.
  • now comes with an .esp patch for the Hoarder trait. Due to the lower starting Carry Weight Allowance, now Harder will penalize the character if they carry less than 130 lbs. (vanilla is 160). Thus a Courier that takes Hoarder at the start of the game should have at least 4 STR, ot ehy won't be able to cover the minimal requirements.

The Step Guide Mandate
Step Modding Guides
Step offers complete, stand-alone modding guides for our supported games. These guides are intended to be a complete, 'Step-modded' setup for each of their games. In addition to adding upon the visual and acoustic enhancements of a vanilla game, Step Modding Guides modify aspects of gameplay mechanics and may include mods that add or subtract specific functionality to yield an overall more immersive experience.

Step Guides are about ...
  • ... bug fixes and corrections to malfunctioning aspects of the vanilla games.
  • ... HD asset replacements in the style of the vanilla game (or as close a representation as possible).
  • ... improvements to existing content that increase the consistency of the vanilla game.
  • ... interface mods that improve the menus and UI for the PC.
  • ... tweaks that improve consistency in gameplay or meet realistic expectations of intended game features.
  • ... new content, assets, and effects that are consistent with the game's style and lore, as established by Bethesda's creators
  • ... continuity and qualitative consistency of all in-game behaviors and assets (i.e., sounds, textures, models, gameplay, etc.)

Step Guides are NOT about ...
  • ... sex mods, body replacement mods, or beauty mods that unrealistically affect or digress from the ambiance and style of the vanilla game.
  • ... sound replacement mods that digress from the game's vanilla ambience.
  • ... texture mods that significantly deviate from the game's original visual style.
  • ... mods that are only required for a specific user base (i.e., a mod that fixes UI issues but only for users running at 4K)
