IT'S FINALLY HERE. AND NOW OPEN!

“No one thinks Las Vegas is real; it is illusion, but visitors willingly suspend disbelief and pretend.” – HAL ROTHMAN

"Damn slots are robbery." - Some Gambler Dude in the Tops

 > > HISTORY

The New Vegas Strip has always, always been a sore spot for me when engaging in any far-reaching discussion about this lovely gem of a game.

This damn place, in vanilla, is for me, hands-down, the most underwhelming location in the full experience. At least a quarter of the idle dialogue you get from everyone on your way to it is practically hyping up how easy it is to get lost in the sights and sounds and whatever debauchery comes to mind. Its the main center-point, the place you need to get a credit check for to even enter. And it all just feels... dead. Not, like, the >Fallout kind of broken world where it still has character in its ruins and rebuilding contrastdead, but the >obviously was running into memory issues and the bare minimum had to be placed under time constraintsdead. Besides the casino buildings themselves, the Strip was nothing but a crummy street. No can do, buckaroo.

I've lived in Vegas for a substantial part of my life, have visited it recently, even, and the first thing you feel when you're there is this sensory overload of everything trying to get your attention at once. Light shows, music, flashing neon, chimes and jingles and water fountain music synchronizations, there's so much going on all the time just to get you into that headspace of 'letting loose' and getting your gamble on. The contrast in atmosphere is so... stark. Perhaps its time more was done about that.

 > > CONTENT

- A complete reworking of the exterior Strip, featuring new casino and various entertainment building models

- Revamped volumetric lighting setups, decorative signs and flavor, with a healthy pinch of color

- New audio sources for better world-building, including the clink and rings of slot machines, the humdrum of crowds and hollers of lucky gamblers, NCR military broadcasts, monorail station adverts and PA with custom voice acting with the creaking groans and distorted music playback of old casinos

- Cleaned roads, garbage moved, overall better presentation of the existing Strip (courtesy of the Lightweight Strip Overhaul base + alterations)

- Cleaned the mod itself of ITMs, dirty edits, and requiring nothing else but Simple Open Strip as the new base, New Vegas itself, and Lonesome Road

- 2.0+ EXCLUSIVE: The entire mod has been remade from scratch, now built with Simple Open Strip in mind!

 > > MAJOR UPDATE HISTORY

v 1.50v 2.00

 > > GENERAL INFORMATION

This overhaul takes practically everything I could reasonably source for the Strip and implements it. Following Fallout's design philosophy (the contrast of what was, to what is), materials like Bobio567's Old Vegas Resources and prodlimen's Strip/ Freeside collections (linked below) are now an aging, yet fresh extension to the bland and boring roads of the vanilla experience.

THE OLD, represented by defunct classic Vegas casinos, whose signs are posted up around the streets or simply left standing as empty monoliths around the Strip. One has toppled from the weather of the Wasteland, whereas others stand proud as part of the ongoing reconstruction efforts. Pre-War performers have their names set up in ricked lettering, and some still have the broken remnants of a speaker system blaring out to passersby.

THE NEW has been reinforced by Vegas' very best contracted engineers, with a redecoration of the major casinos, offering new highlights and sights to see! That's not all, though, as the sounds of the Gomorrah, Tops, and even the Ultra-Luxe now serenade their listeners. Your ears will now lead a story just as you see it, funny thing. The boulevard ends up much more filled out and lively, to where I can't wait to hear what you guys think of the changes. Of course, not without surprises, as even the All Roads official comic helps light up the Strip thanks to the casinos from it, modeled by prodlimen.

You can't enter any of the new buildings, I don't plan for that to be a feature in the future, either. The tellers on the Strip are very consistent about informing you exactly what is available to do and where you can go. Anything else added in ad-hoc won't feel right, and that's not what I intend for this overhaul. If I do add new content in future patches, it will be in the form of NPCs doing their unique thing (maybe greeters, shopkeeps, people putting on a show?). Stay tuned for if that ever comes to pass...

> > GENERAL INFORMATION FOR 2.0

Holy cherries on ice cream, this release took ages... approximately. But now, its finally time! With the release of Qolore's Simple Open Strip I've finally been able to fulfill a long-term request to the best of my ability with a complete re-work of the mod... from scratch. You know that's right, everything after LSO and SOS has been built back up out of the irradiated earth! Anyway, the important bits with this release in particular is that since its completely new, that's going to require a new save. - Lemme just grab out the megaphone here - THE 2.0 RELEASE WILL REQUIRE A NEW SAVE TO FUNCTION PROPERLY.

*Ahem*, now, I've tried my absolute best to make 2.0's launch as good as it can be. Some tiny visual oddities, sadly, but the entire package is currently all put together as intended. If there's any unforeseen weirdness, please, don't hesitate to troubleshoot and then shoot a post or bug report if things are really weird.

> > COMPATIBILITY AND SETUP

No patches will be available for an Open Strip version from me, I find it to be too performance intensive and the implementation out of my scope to replicate - however, I leave open permissions for people to inform me of a patch I can upload here with courtesy. If I don't respond in a timely manner feel free to upload it yourself WITH proper permissions to everyone I give permissions for, and myself.

THERE IS NOW A PATCH AVAILABLE FOR VERSIONS PRIOR TO 2.0 FOR SIMPLE OPEN STRIP, CHECK OUT DiDISAAN'S PATCH EMPORIUM HERE: click this, dumb butt.

NOTE FOR USERS HAVING LOD TROUBLES (AKA BUILDINGS DISAPPEARING AT A DISTANCE): New Vegas's version of Gamebryo is very finicky about how complex a certain area's collection of LOD models can be. If you're experiencing buildings like the Lucky 38 vanishing if you get far enough away, this is your issue. Unfortunately, the solution isn't entirely cut and dry. Mods like Better Strip View, or Westside Suburbs Uncut, combined with BSO's edits can result in the New Vegas area being overloaded. The only real solution (besides increasing your xLODGen "Atlas Size" to 8192) is limiting the amount of mods you have that add buildings with LOD to this area.

NOTE FOR USERS WITH WEATHER MODS: If your mod changes the region data of the StripWorldNew worldspace, you will need to carry over the changes to the Imposter records in xEdit. Otherwise, multiple buildings will not load properly. If you're seeing the Golden Gate sign floating in midair, this is your issue. Check the stickied posts for the process explanation. Feel free to also check out Zanderat's Weather Mod Patches, if yours is available there.

Mods that add "minor" things to the Strip, such as new NPCs, quest details, and other such drops SHOULD be inherently compatible, possibly with minor clipping or some odd fellow being stuck in a bin. Mods that edit Freeside are very much compatible, my project doesn't alter the main Freeside area at all, just LOD stuff out by the Strip's geolocation. Mods that change Freeside and the Strip? Well, figure out if they need each other's worldspace entries to work, if not, it should be okay to just delete their StripWorldNew edits and live a happy, carefree life!

Mods patched, mods patched, get cracked cuz these mods are patched.

RUN LODGEN SO THE NEW CASINO BUILDINGS CAN BE SEEN IN THE DISTANCE, DUMMIES. DON'T CLEAN THIS MOD, I DO THAT ALREADY.
