Planned Future Additions:

Suggestions welcome

This mod is my attempt to create a comprehensive game play overhaul for Kingdom Come Deliverance that maximizes depth and difficulty.  It contains most of my previous mods as well as a great deal of new material in a single package.  Blood and Iron is harsher than most other mods for KCD.  It will make early game play much more difficult and keeps it challenging throughout so it is recommended for those who have already completed a play-through and developed some skill with it.

PLEASE NOTE:  As BIO now includes a perk system it is ideally used with a new game.  When using with a saved game you can reset your perk points by drinking a Lethean Water potion.

Reviews Welcome:  If you do a video or print review of this mod please let me know so I can link it here.

Translations Welcome:  If you want to make a translation of the english.xml files  into another language I would be very happy to include them in future updates.

Compatible Mods:  If you have made or know of any mods specifically made (or with versions or patches specifically made) to work with Blood and Iron Overhaul please let me know so I can contact the authors and ask to provide a link to them on this page for the convenience of BIO users.

NOTES:

This mod was created with all DLC included.  It will likely by and large function if you are missing some or all of the DLC but there may be some minor issues.

Known Issues:

*The weight of carried coins does not display on the character sheet except in your total carried weight.  I am looking for a way to fix that but, for the moment, I'm stumped.

Blood & Iron Lite:  Difficulty Enhancement Mod:  A small version of B&I that makes combat in the mid to late  game more challenging in a light-weight mod that maintains maximum compatibility with other mods.  You can find it HERE.

New Items:  Currently these items replace existing ones.  The horse armor replaces the caparison with the vertical black and white stripes.  The new caparison replaces a red and white one.  The new waffenrock replaces one of the long Talamberg ones.  In a future update these, and others, will be stand-alone items.

SUB MODS:
Blood & Iron Overhaul includes the following mods contained within it:

*Spearmans Delight by created by Knoxogoshi, Predoc, and myself
*A Sorted Inventory by HaslamI, updated for use with this mod with his kind permission
*Blood and Iron Perk System
*Repairkit Overhaul
*New Skalitz Waffenrock
*Horse Armor
*Blade Master Sword Redux
*
Medieval Munchies:  Food Rebalance
*A Fistful of Groschen
*No Manes on Horses
*Named NPCs
*Mad Mutt
*Loose (An Archery Mod)

*Comprehensive User Interface Overhaul  (Interface version only)

TROUBLESHOOTING:

Files Not Loading:  Sometimes the game doesn’t implement modded files right away.  This problem seems to have been exacerbated by the 1.4.3 patch.  If you encounter this issue, start a new game and complete the initial dialogue sequence with Henry’s mother.  Then quit and reload you save game.  This will often force KCD to reload the game library's files.

Localization File Conflicts:  If you are using any mod that alters the Localization/english_xml.pak/text_ui_soul.xml file or the Localization/english_xml.pak/ text_ui_items.xml file, that will cause a conflict. Also, some mods that only alter some files in the english_xml.pak leave redundant files inside even when they are not altered.  If this includes either of these two files, again, you have a conflict.

Manual merging of your english_xml.pak file:

*Using 7zip, extract the english_xml.pak from this mod.

*Right-click on the english_xmk.pak from the LAST mod in your load order and, again with 7zip, choose "open archive" at the top of the pop-up menu that appears.

*Drag the files you extracted from step one and drop it into the new open archive window and confirm the overwrite.

No Perk Points When Leveling Character or Skills:  There is a bug some people have when adding the DLC that causes perk points to not be awarded when they level up the character or skills.  You can try verifying your files through Steam though some people need to uninstall the game and re-install it--I had to do that myself.

*Make copies of mods, altered files, your user.config, etc.

*Uninstall the game then go into your Steam folder and delete the KCD file entirely.

*Re-install the game.

*Restore your mods and any other files.

Reporting Issues:  I check the comments section at least once a day so you can ask any questions you need to there and I will see them.  If I am going to be out of touch for more than a day or two, I will leave a sticky post up top to that effect.  Please refrain from posting in the Bugs section unless you are certain the problem is with BIO itself because you understand and have examined the files.  If there is a bug that I can’t fix immediately I will add it to the Bug reports myself.  If you ARE certain feel free top post in the Bug reports directly.

‘Your mod sucks and you’re a loser’ posts are perfectly welcome in the COMMENTS section as well but please be sure to check your spelling and grammar when being abusive so you don’t look like a complete ass..

REMODDING BIO:

The following is information for players who wish to make alterations to Blood and Iron Overhaul for their own personal use.  I have included instructions for the most requested alterations.  Feel free to ask in the comments section if you have any questions or want to change something not covered.  I am not the best person to ask regarding textures however.  If you have questions about texture work you should look into the tutorials by dodgeme and Fuse00.

Removing the Perk System:  If you want to remove the perk system from the mod, scroll down to the MISCELLANEA section below and note the listed files that are in yellow.

Removing Various Overlays:  This same technique can be used to remove my alterations to various game overlays if you wish to restore things like the helmet overlays, blood splatter, and so forth.  In these cases a single folder is removed in its entirety.  These are as follows:

Data/Libs/UI/Textures/player.dds  (hides player on map--delete to restore to vanilla)
Data/Libs/UI/Textures/TimeBackground  (clock face texture--delete to restore vanilla)

To Restore Horse Manes:
If you want to remove the No Manes on Horses sub-mod. follow these instructions:

2—Select “Open Archive.”
3—Navigate to
and delete the following files:
* Data/Libs/Tables/character_hair.xml
* Data/Libs/Tables/character_hair.tbl

To Restore Cooking Pots to vanilla value:

The cooking pot is Item ID: 6198800d-2524-4b66-b9ca-b640e2ae99f5 in food.xml. The vanilla value was 25.

INSTALATION:

*If you do not already ahve one, create a new folder in your KCD game folder called "Mods"

*Open the BIO archive and place the folder inside in your Mods folder

To Uninstall:  Remove BIO's folder from you KCD Mods folder.  For interface versions, open your user.cfg and delete the section titled "CUIO Items."

MISCELLANEA:

Compatibility:  As this is an overhaul there will be a great deal of conflicts with other mods.  Following are otherwise conflicting mods that have Blood and Iron compatible versions available.  If you are the author of such a mod please let me know and I will make a link to it here so my users know about it.

Altered Files:  The following files are altered by BIO, excluding those related to the interface.  Yellow entries are the files relating to the perk system if you want to remove it.  See step-by-step instructions in the Troubleshooting section above for details.  Files listed in blue are texture files.
