This mod is reimagining the existing Pre-War outfits as new outfits that are uniquely customisable: You can individually change each outfits shoes, shirt, pants, skirt, dress top and bottom, and more, on an armour workbench! These don't replace existing pre war outfits, they are standalone, so you will have to craft them to use them. I've improved the original outfits shape and textures quite heavily, made them cleaner, and made each part of them moddable, so they are vastly different to their original counterparts and this is why they are standalone.
No two settlers have to have the same outfits ever again! I've designed these outfits to make settlements feel more alive; like the settlers are making their own clothes and living a better life so you won't find others wearing them. I will also be adding more lore friendly outfit designs and expansions in the future so you will have the original pre war clothing, my moddable versions of the pre war clothing, AND some new fun stuff that matches to play with.
Bring out a whole new side to your settlers or theme each settlement to be more homey, fun, gothic, or professional just by changing a few colors here and there. It's super simple, requires no other mods to play with it, and it doesn't replace anything! Woohoo!

Troubleshooting
This should be a pretty painless mod, it should be compatible with all other mods. Please reach out in the posts section if you need help.
- Bodies aren't correct shape/invisible > You didn't bodyslide after installing (if base game please report!).
- I can't mod the outfit > Make sure your outfit is Al's version; eg: "Al's Casual Outfit" not "Casual Outfit".
- FG Womens Casual bodyslide looks weird > Install the optional Womens Casual FG bodyslide file.
- Something else is wrong with a body/texture > Show me a screenshot in the posts section please :).
Long Description!
When I build up settlements I want them to look cleanish and like I at least tried to do better than junk shacks (though junk shacks can be pretty awesome too!). I want to feel like my settlers are living a better life and thriving, like I am making a real difference, not just bringing them to live in a slum for safety and survival. I often find my settlers wearing similar outfits way too much because I have so many issues with the existing pre war clothes (coloring, fitting, dirtiness, etc) and thus repeatedly use the same ones, and it's been slowly eating my soul not having any real variety.
A visit to Nexus has some really nice results for dresses and other outfits but I struggle to find sets I'm happy with. Most are replacers (so can't be used together), stand alone singles (which sometimes aren't craftable), and many of them can't be used together (either because they don't match or they've got conflicts or replace each other), or have mod requirements I'm trying to avoid. There's also a huge amount of clothes in general that look too good and clean, or are nicely distressed but too dirty for how I like to play...ultimately there's plenty of amazing clothes out there but I'm ridiculously picky.
So I decided to step up and learn how to make clothes so my settlers could wear stuff that made me happy. Initially I was going to do sets but it turns out I have very little fashion sense so picking what goes with what was a disaster. Then I thought why not make each part of the outfit customisable so everyone can pick their own combos? And that's how this mod was born. Now you can play around dressing up your settlers for hours! It's strangely addictive!
Want to help?
I'm looking for help to achieve the list below. If you know how to do one of these or have info I might be able to use please let me know!
- Always looking for patterns I can use, they're shockingly hard to find. Struggling to find plaid, tartan, and fabric textures, that sort of thing.
- I'm looking for info for making child versions of my outfits.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Want to know more about me?
I'm a student learning game development, so I'm fairly busy. Outside of my studies I've been trying to learn more about how other games handle modding and how communities learn to mod games. I've made a few mods for different games where I can and I've found that the learning curve is really steep if you have no idea what you're doing (like me!), and often relies on knowledge from other games or that's heavily dated (and may no longer work).
I want to build highly moddable games by the end of my studies, and really support those who bring more value to players with mods, so I'm diving into mod making across games I love to learn more about how it's done. The Fallout 4 community is almost 10 years old, but it still has experts active in it and is still growing with newbies who are releasing mods despite the learning curve. I fiercely love this game because of the mods that make it better, so I thought why not take this opportunity to improve my game, give back to the community, learn how I can make modding easier for my future games, and even build skills I'll need to develop my own games one day like working with bones, skeletons 3D modelling, texturing, etc.
Q2. Can I convert/change/adapt/patch your mod/nif/textures?
If you want to swap out textures or mix and match please see the articles section for a guide. For those looking to make their own mod using my work the answer is more difficult... in most cases it's no. This is a personal study for me and it's extremely important for me to learn these skills. If you want to convert it to a new body, please instead link me to resources or teach me how to do it. I would very very very much appreciate it.
If you want to do something else please hit me up for permission first. I am actively looking for people who want to help make my clothes more gender diverse, or who wish to make child versions, so if this is you please hit me up so we can work together :D.
Q3. Can you add more colors/patterns?
I'll be real I want to just say no to this because of how much work is involved but the truth is: It depends. Doing material swaps over individual outfits is so much more work than I thought it would be, and the reason why there's very few mods that do these. For a single color on a single aspect of the outfit I have to add data to 4 different things in CK, and they're fiddly and require going back and forth between them which takes time. Then I have to consider what the rename will do to it (that works across ALL outfits so doesn't just affect one) and make sure it has an appropriate name which means adding it to another 4+ places.
For example: if I didn't have red on the Casual Outfit and wanted it for shirt, pants, and shoes, I'd have to make the texture, make the material, then go into CK to make 3 material swaps, 3 omods, 3 constructible objects, and 3 miscmods, and then I'd need to look at the INNR to add red as an option for all 4+ naming spaces so that no one's confused what the outfit has been set to. Then I have to test it multiple times because it's never perfect the first time and looks completely different in game. It takes a long time to test and ensure it's all set up properly.
So it has to really be worth it because wow is it a LOT of work. So ask, because maybe your idea is exciting and a lot of you want it so I will add it, but just know it's a lot of work so I might not want to, and where I do want to it might take a longer time than you'd expect. Additionally I am trying to keep each outfit slightly different so that your settlements don't become a sea of the same colors - I want them to actually look natural and different to each other, so the red used on the casual outfit should be different to the reds used elsewhere, even if only slightly so they look like different clothing. That might mean some patterns and textures aren't used on all outfits as well so that there is more variety visually. I am open to and happy to change that as needed though if some pattern would look really neat on another outfit, so give me feedback so I can gauge what you all want. Plus sometimes I can change aspects of the pattern to keep it similar but different enough to look unique.
Q4. Can I add more colours if you don't want to?
This comes under Q2. You can always make a personal patch which you don't share. If you want to share please hit me up first. There is an article in the article tab on overwriting colors if you'd like to do that.
Q5. Can you make a replacer version? A version that increases crafting costs? A version that whatevers?
I have no plans to make a replacer version at this time, or a version that puts my outfits in the wild, as I want these to feel like something settlers have made and worked for, not scavenged. I have plans further down the line to add more than just clothing to this game to make settlement building feel like you're improving the world which will include build sets, quests, and a proper fleshing out of Preston to make settlement building actually something your character might want to do and beneficial....so right now it's "just clothes" but I'm hopeful soon it will also be part of a set of mods that when combined, feel like you're making a difference and that settlers are better off in your settlements. I do have plans to add a mod to make the crafting costs higher for those who want it to cost more but also happy for someone else to hit me up regarding this if they'd like to do it (see Q2). For others I guess ask and I will get back to you.
Q6. Can I make a translation?
Absolutely! Make it as a patch for my mod, make sure you upload it to nexus as a translation (also add translation as a tag AND select "my mod contains translations") and only include your changes - do not include the original mod, textures, meshes, etc. Make sure you list this mod as a requirement and credit it also. Thanks for making it more accessible in your language!
