Changelogs
Version 1.3
Fixed form list for warm locations to include newly added FROST locations.
Version 1.2
Heat sources have been adjusted in various FROST-modified locations for immersion. No more freezing to death 10 feet from a fire barrel.
Version 1.1
This is now the default version. Includes compatibility for FROST weather, armor, and locations.
Version 1.05
This is an optional file to be used as alternative to main file. This file is identical to main file, except radstorms are now slightly warmer than regular rain.
Version 1.01
Fixed folder structure
Version 1.00
Added Frost Weather IDs to Nuclear Winter Temperature FormID Lists, Added Frost Weather IDs to Nuclear Winter Wind Speed FormID Lists
THIS PLUGIN FOCUSES ON THREE AREAS: WEATHER, ARMOR INSULATION, AND HEAT SOURCES
This plugin matches FROST weathers with Temperature and Wind Speed measurements from FALLOUT 2287 - Nuclear Winter. This plugin does not match FROST weathers with "cold/freezing" effect shaders from Nuclear Winter.
This plugin adds appropriate armor insulation stats to non-vanilla armor pieces and outfits provided by FROST.
This plugin makes sure that locations changed or added by FROST have appropriate heat statistics. Most sealed underground areas are relatively insulated (collapsed subway systems, tunnels, etc.) because heat doesn't conduct that well through the ground. As long as an underground area appears to be sealed, I have made it slightly warmer than the surface.
My logic for sorting weathers is as follows:
Lack of sunlight makes ambient temperature colder (e.g. overcast weathers).
Precipitation lowers ambient temperature (rainwater efficiently absorbs heat from air due to its high specific heat capacity and due to latent heat of evaporation)
Precipitation also generates wind as it cools the air (changes in air temperature, such as during rainfall, create convection currents)
Fog and mist slightly lower ambient temperature by partially blocking sunlight and making everything damp. Rain is still much colder than fog or mist.
Fog usually indicates lack of wind, whereas mist indicates at least a slight breeze.
Radioactive rain is warmer than normal rain since the fallout it contains is undergoing radioactive decay, which generates heat. Similar to normal rainfall, radstorms create convection currents and produce wind. This wind will generally be stronger than wind from normal rainfall due to the intense, localized heating of air pockets by the radioactive decay of fallout and the cooling of the surrounding air by latent heat of evaporation. By making radstorms warmer, I've added an additional gameplay mechanic - if you're freezing and can't find a heat source, you can potentially stand outside in a radstorm to warm yourself up. So this essentially means that you can choose to trade rads for warmth.
From my limited playtesting, everything seems to be working as intended. I will continue to edit this mod as needed. I am open to suggestions on how to improve immersion, perhaps a few values need to be tweaked here and there to better match FROST environments and lore.
