    Common problems:

    1) If you can't see Nuclear Winter's HUD widget (temperature, wind speed, cbt), your issue is likely that your widget is off screen. This has happened to me in the past. Go into MCM/holotape under Nuclear Winter and fiddle around with the hud scale/positioning until it's to your liking.

    2) Similarly, if you can't see your insulation HUD widget when you use the insulation hotkey or Aid item, your widget may be off screen so play around with scale and positioning settings in the Nuclear Winter MCM/holotape.

    Planned additions/changes:

    None, but open to suggestion.

    Hi all -
I just did a fresh install of FO4, FROST, assorted FROST patches, etc. and Nuclear Winter.
I have all the prerequisites, the load order is correct - and I cannot toggle the mod ON. Not just the HUD element, but when I go into the menu to choose my options for insulation, to even toggle the mod ON or OFF, then close the menu and return to the game, none of the changes I made have saved.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I am completely baffled. I literally installed Fallout 4 in a brand new directory. Installed FROST, Nuclear Winter, and the patches. STILL will not allow me to enable the mod from the holotape. So I installed MCM. Same problem. This is REALLY friggin bizarre considering it worked fine in the past.

    Thanks

Can you try playing with only FROST+NUCLEAR WINTER without my patch? See if that works, then it will mean I need to look at whether my patch needs to be updated. Let me know and thanks for bringing up the issue.

not sure if this is a problem with nuclear winter itself or this, but cold food items always respawn in my inventory after cooking and eating the cooked version, it doesnt even need to be get cold in the first place, i can cook raw food and eat it and after dying or reloading a cold version is spawned in my inventory

I'm always getting one rad per second on the surface, using this with gasmasks of the wasteland and I've followed the load order instructions, the only thing that seems to fix it is disabling nuclear winter and the associated patches.

Hi. I'm not sure why Nuclear Winter would be a problem since it shouldn't touch weathers. I believe surface radiation in Frost is tied to weather, so Nuclear Winter shouldn't be affecting rads. If you're using the gasmasks mod did you install a Frost compatibility patch? Are you using another weathers mod such as NAC?

Hey there. Been a while, but I've updated the load order on the description so that you won't encounter this bug anymore. Try this order to get rid of the bug:

      NAC.esm
      Gas Masks of the Wasteland.esp
      Nuclear Winter.esp
      NW_AllDLC.esp
      NW_Gas Masks of the Wasteland.esp
      NW_Clothing.esp
      NAC-FarHarbor.esp
      NAC-NukaWorld.esp
      NAC-FakeInteriorsPatch.esp
      NW_NAC.esp
      BasementLiving.esp
      NW_BasementLiving_Patch.esp
      FROST.esp
      Gas Mask FROST.esp
      NW_FROST_COMPLETE.esp
      FROST-NAC-COMPAT.esp
      FROST_GMOW_masochist.esp

Is there any ENB that you recommend to use with NAC and FROST?

So I personally recommend either 1) the "NAC Enhancer" preset or 2) the preset known as "The Enhancer". Both are good but I see slightly better performance with NAC Enhancer. Both presets enhance vanilla visuals instead of drastically changing them, which allows for greater flexibility. The biggest reason I like these two is because they play nicely with ENB Lights Overhaul and with the NACFX stuff that's included with NAC. NACFX allows you to easily fine-tune how your image looks on the fly without any noticeable performance cost. The alternative would be to fiddle with postpass.fx and other .fx settings in the enb menu, which is a big pain and can add to performance loss depending on what you're doing.

In the past for Frost only without NAC, I've used Pilgrim's ENB preset, but after about 50 hrs I got tired of the contrast and the saturated look. It makes for a good horror atmosphere that fits frost but I couldn't stick with it. Not sure how it'd look with NAC enabled. If you want to give it a try be sure to only install the Pilgrim ENB preset portion not the Pilgrim esp file because it conflicts with NAC weathers and Frost weathers. The Pilgrim esp adds music and stuff to weathers but it does so by editing weather records. While there's the patch for Pilgrim+Frost and the patch I made for NAC+Frost, you would still need to make a combined patch for NAC+Pilgrim+Frost or else features will be lost.

Long story short I use NAC (along with the NAI optional file for interiors on NAC's page) + the NAC Enhancer ENB preset (also located on the NAC page) + ENB Lights Overhaul. The result is gorgeous, natural lighting with dark nights and moody interiors. Additionally I use the Icepick mod for better snowy landscapes. If nights are too dark you can either increase nighttime brightness with the NAC holotape under "NACFX" or with your usual 'AmbientLightingIntensityNight' settings in the enb menu under "Environment".

Thanks for the in depth answer man, i'm gonna try the NAC Enhancer preset for sure!
Instead of using Icepick Overhaul i was thinking of using Winter Redone (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/41449) that already comes with a FROST patch included in the optional files, what do you think? Do you know if it's FROST patch conflicts with your NAC or NW Patch? (sorry i'm not very experienced with FO4Edit yet)
Also have you ever checked Simply Winter Weather before (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/43241)? It's by the same author from Winter Redone and i think it looks really cool.

Give it a try. Just note that removing the mod mid-playthrough can be problematic such as items despawning in areas you've visited. As for the weathers mod you will likely need to make a patch for it in the form of an "overwrite" esp. Watch this short video on how to make one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuQ0lJat_w

Don't fear! FO4Edit looks harder than it is. It'll probably only take 5 minutes for you to make the patch. Look to my Frost+NAC patch for inspiration (link at bottom of description). Once you make your overwrite esp, congrats! Because you've just made your own mod. Post that bad boy to Nexus and give the weather mod author a holler that you've made a patch.

And as for seeing whether a mod will conflict with other mods, FO4Edit has the handy "Apply Filter to Show Conflicts" feature. The vid above shows you how to do this as well. Enjoy your last few moments of blissful ignorance, because now that you know how easy it is to make patches you'll never settle for incompatibility ever again. And every mod will either work together or be thrown into the Bin, as Todd hath commanded. You are now one of us!

Thanks for all the help man, it really means a lot! (Unfortunately the video you linked is unavailable)
But after trying your recommendation of NAC with the NAI optional file for interiors + the NAC Enhancer ENB preset + ENB Lights Overhaul and your FROST-NAC Patch i just can't go back to anything before, it's just looks amazing, the best combination i've tried so far, i really appreciate your help. Keep up the good work, hopefully you do some more patches or mods in the future! I plan on doing patches myself as well! Endorsed, tracking and kudos!

    Hi Minotaur21

I see you added locations to Winter_FireMedium. Shouldn't that be Winter_WarmLocations?

So is this just Nuclear Winter with frost items, world etc?

Or is this a full on Nuclear Winter into the Frost mod experience?

Here's what the patch does specifically,
      1. Makes NW recognize FROST weathers so that it knows what ambient temperatures and wind speeds to assign outdoors based on the environmental effects. FROST weathers are different from vanilla weathers, so without my patch NW wouldn't really work outdoors with FROST.

      2. Assigns ambient temperatures to new indoor areas added by Frost. Without the patch NW would ignore new FROST areas such as tunnels and subways, so you'd still be getting colder even if you were in a relatively warm indoor location like Downtown for example.

      3. Adds insulation to new armors added by Frost. So that you can wear things like the metro fatigues without freezing.

You need both nuclear winter and frost. No records from nuclear winter or frost have been changed, so no conflicts. All I've basically done is categorize the FROST records for new weathers/locations/armors into template lists that NW provided. The trick is assigning the weathers/locations/armors to the correct lists, which is why I wrote the long explanation for things in the description. Hope this answered your question.

My load order (all files are esp) in plugins on NMM is FROST > Polluted Climate > Polluted Climate Winter > Polluted Climate Winter FROST Patch > Frost FPS Fix > Polluted Climate FROST Patch > Nuclear Winter > Nuclear Winter FROST Complete Compatibility Patch > NW All DLC > NW Polluted Climate

When I access the terminal in the very beginning the game freezes. Not sure if it's a bug or my load order.

I don't play with Polluted Climate so I don't know it that well, but I'll try to help.

First, since you're using "polluted climate winter" you should remove the original "polluted climate" mod and its "polluted climate frost patch". You don't need the original, the winter version is its own standalone mod and having both is useless and can cause issues.

Next, make sure that you have all of the mods updated as well as your fallout 4 game fully updated to the latest version AND your F4SE updated as well. If you can't update because of piracy or because of other reasons, then make sure that your f4se matches whatever version of the game you have. Scripts are highly sensitive to game version, so downloading a mod with scripts that is for a newer game version than what you have will cause big problems. If Nuclear Winter or Polluted Climate have updated recently, try using older versions of those files that were posted close to the date of your correct f4se version release.

      Finally, try this load order:

      Frost.esp
      Nuclear Winter.esp
      NW_AllDLC
      NW_Clothing
      NW_FROST_COMPLETE.esp
      PollutedClimate-Winter.esp
      NW_PollutedClimate.esp
      Polluted Climate Winter FROST Patch

All I can say is that NMM makes helping you a whole lot harder since I (and also you as well, probably) don't know what order you overwrote the game files. This is why things like MO2 are much, much better than NMM, because you can set the order of the overwrites more easily and these "overwrites" won't actually touch your game files, which makes reverting easier as well. Hope this helps.

Hi, i'm very new to FROST and wanted to ask if i can use the 'Post-apocalyptic Homemade Weapons Replacer' mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/44177) with FROST without any problems or if it would require some sort of patch?

Since the mod you linked contains an esp file, it likely won't be compatible with FROST out of the box since they're probably editing the same records (I'm guessing weapon records and weapon mod records but I haven't checked). Which means that whichever you load lowest in your load order will overwrite the other. But making a compatibility patch for this sort of thing using FO4Edit isn't hard at all since all you really need to do is create an overwrite of the identical records and pick and choose the values that you want to include in those records (in this case you would keep all the frost damage values and you change the model value to whatever is listed in your weapon replacer mod). This stuff seems like a big task because I'm trying to explain it in writing, but in reality it takes less than 5 minutes to do. I recommend watching a video on how to make these "conflict resolution patches" using xEdit. It doesn't matter if it's for Skyrim or Fallout it's the same process.

It's one of the faction armors added by Frost. I forget exactly but it might be Metro Alliance Fatigues.

I am certain its your mod having taken the time consuming effort of ruling every other mod out, i keep getting consumed inventory items added back into my inventory as cold and frozen varients, could you please check this out and get back to me.

am happy to provide more info if needed

So I'm pretty sure what you're facing is a bug due to Nuclear Winter, not my patch. Nuclear Winter (NW) has a feature where food or water may get cold and freeze, but that is beyond the control of my mod. The plugin for my mod does not touch any inventory items besides clothing. Do you get the same bug when playing with only FROST + Nuclear Winter without my patch? It's very likely that you will, because looking at the bug page for Nuclear Winter, some people playing only Fallout 4 + Nuclear Winter without Frost are having similar problems related to consumables being duplicated or used twice.

The problem is likely due to a bad script in NW, but I have very little experience with scripting and will not be making a separate fix for that mod. The only solution I can offer is for you to turn off the food/beverage setting in the NW MCM, but I've read at least one bug report on the mod page about the NW MCM being clunky and setting updates working only ~50% of the time. You may need to change the setting, save, reload, and repeat until it works and the setting is effectively disabled.
