About this mod

Edits dialogue for the Dalish Elf Origin and other quests to show Warden Mahariel's Dalish heritage. Allows Mahariel to have more personality, show knowledge of elven lore & history, and have a choice to speak their language, while tweaking dialogue choices that make them talk/sound like an Andrastian. This is an ongoing project and a WIP.

| Dalish Dialogue Overhaul |

• ○ • ○ • ○ •

This mod aims to add more Dalish spark and energy to Warden Mahariel's personality.
Personally, I found most of the available dialogue unsatisfying.

Where is our feisty hero? The one that appears as we continue on?
(Or one that can tell Merrill to shut up?)
Because I have some weird obsession with fixing stuff I don't like in the Dalish Elf origin, I decided to write my own. And since the DAO's original release, the series has expanded. Especially in the DAI game and various lore books, more detailed elven history and elven language elements have been shared and/or written, and I thought it was time to refresh the dialogue so Mahariel can "be more elfy".
(Sorry, Sera)

This mod is a work in progress. Please see the sticky on the comments page for updates.

-Edits dialogue during multiple parts of the game to show Mahariel's Dalish heritage.
-Allows Mahariel to have more personality, show knowledge of elven lore & history
-Gives Mahariel a choice to speak their own language during conversations.
-Removes gender check for romancing Tamlen so both male and female elves can flirt with him.
-Fixes lethallin/lethallan error in the original opening dialogue with Tamlen.

Please see the mod article for details on the changes made to each character's dialogue.

I took a few screenshots for each character to give you an idea of my revised dialogue
but they're only examples & don't show every change or edit

For all the changes this mod makes, download and install all Main Files.

Download, unzip, open the folder, and move the inside folder into your override.
\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override

The individual character file sets
are modular. Meaning none of them are dependent on each other to work.
A "set" is the dlb and dlg files for one character - "bed100cr_tamlen.dlb / bed100cr_tamlen.dlg"
You can use or delete whatever ones you want.
However, if you remove any files, make sure you have both the dlb and dlg files for the characters
you want.

If you're unsure if you want all the changes, I recommend reading the article I posted, which details what I did for each character and quest.

What if I don't like this mod?

//If you find issues or bugs or a mod conflict with something not already mentioned, let me know by leaving details in a comment. Any comment with just an "it doesn't work" with no details on how or why, I won't answer because it doesn't solve anything. I've tested and fixed what I found, but you never know. Dialogue is messy and attached to many mechanics of gameplay.

//There is still some repetition in Tamlen's dialogue.
Yes, this place makes us nervous too! ^^
Sadly, his vanilla voice files/responses are limited, and at this point, I didn't feel like trying to cut new sound files.

//If you don't like the changes I made to any of these files, that's fine, but I'm not adjusting the tone or content of the responses unless there are game-breaking problems.

Ultimately, I wrote Mahariel's new responses with how I think they might respond or act.
I am a woman but try to keep things gender-neutral (hopefully I'm doing a decent job)
I tried to keep it fluid with vanilla choices and RPG personality styles so that any changes blended in with the original dialogue.
I know my changes won't suit everyone.
