This mod moves DLC gear sets to more immersive and lore-friendly shops, to make their location feel less artificial and more believable from an in-game perspective.

When DLC content is added to games post-launch, it is often placed where it can be conveniently found by gamers, so that they can immediately enjoy it. Unfortunately, this often is in contrast with in-game lore-friendliness and believability.

In example, why a simple merchant from a small rural village can sell a full suite of armor (plus horse gear), that is clearly looking like it could belong to an elite corps like the Blue Stripes?
Why does the quartermaster at Crow's Perch, garrisoned by temerians, have a full set of items suited for a Nilfgaardian agent?
Or, why the Emperor suddenly becomes so kind as to donate to his not-so-loved Witcher acquaintance, not one, but two full suites of weapons and armor that are clearly prized artifacts, in the most gamey move that one could imagine?

All of these locations feel like "a developer put those in a convenient place" rather than "this NPC has a reason to have these items for sale"

What this mod does:

With those considerations in mind, this mod does one simple thing and one only: it moves those gear sets to more believable NPC merchants, where it could be more reasonable for them to sell them to Geralt:

  • Temerian Gear (from free DLC 1): moved from Bram in White Orchard to Roche's Quartermaster in the Temerian rebel's camp (this NPC is present in the game files but not appearing in the game world because of a bug, luckily BiA restores him to his location. That mod is, consequently, a prerequisite to this one)
  • Nilfgaardian Gear (from free DLC 5) and Nilfgaardian Crossbow (from free DLC 13): moved from the Quartermaster at Crow's Perch to Quartermaster Eggebracht in the Nilfgaardian Army Camp
  • White Tiger Gear (from the Next-Gen update): moved from the chest in Vizima Royal Palace to the Ofieri merchant near the Upper Mill, in the upper right part of the Novigrad map.
  • Dol Blathanna Gear (from the Next-Gen update):  moved from the chest in Vizima Royal Palace to the Scoia'tael merchant south of the Logger's Hut, in the outskirts of Novigrad
Some lore-friendly supplies are added in the chest in Vizima Palace in place of the White Tiger set, to compensate and to provide some aid to the adventuring witcher at the beginning of his Velen trip.

Currently, I have not moved the other bonus gear, since they are already in believable places:

  • Undvik Gear (from free DLC 14): left at the armorer in Kaer Trolde
  • Skellige Crossbow (from free DLC 13): left at the blacksmith in Kaer Trolde
  • Elven Crossbow (from free DLC 13): left at the elite merchant in Gildorf, Novigrad (it is not part of the Dol Blathanna set)

What this mod does NOT do:

  • edit any stats of the said gear sets, this is purely an immersive placement of these items in the game world. Thus, it is completely compatible with any mod that edits looks or stats

Game version

This mod was created for and tested with the latest released version: Next-Gen 4.04 Redkit Update 2

I don't use or support older game versions, especially Old-Gen v1.32. I simply have no time or interest to do so. I won't accept any requests about this, if you want to use my mods, your best option is to update your game.

Installation

The recommended way to install this is with "The Witcher 3 Mod Manager"

You can alternatively also manually place it inside your "mods" folder inside the main game directory

Requirements

This mod requires Brothers in Arms - TW3 Bug Fix and Restored Content Collection - Next-Gen, since it restores one of the merchants affected by this mod, that is not present in the vanilla game world because of a bug.
You won't encounter any issues both during mod installation and during gameplay if you don't have BiA in you active mods, BUT YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO ACQUIRE THE TEMERIAN GEAR!

Options

Because of the new locations, you will likely encounter these items later during your playthrough than vanilla, so they will probably be considerably under-leveled compared to your PC. There are two versions of this mod that address this issue differently (pick only one!):

  • The MAIN version only changes item placements, without editing anything in the items themselves, not even their leveling. This is the most light-weight and merge-friendly version and is recommended to be used together with mods that remove item leveling from the game (one notable example is Item Levels Normalized and other related LEGO mods).

  • The ALT version, besides including all edits of Main, also makes the gear items be the same level as Geralt when he acquires them. This is recommended if you don't use de-leveling mods, but it affects many more files and there is a much higher chance of conflicts that not necessarily will auto-merge and should be manually picked within Script Merger (notable conflicting mods are  Armor Rework Mod and The Essential Weapon Rework Mod, and possibly other popular ones).
Modular options including only one set are also available to ensure compatibility with other mods, or simply if you don't want all the sets to be affected. They come in both MAIN and ALT versions, you can mix and match them to your liking but you must:

  • Pick only one version for each set
  • Do not use modular options with the main files, they already include all sets.

I don't plan to provide compatibility patches or other alternative versions at the moment, the whole process is too time-consuming and I'm simply unable to provide updates and fixes for too many versions.

Compatibility

This should be compatible with everything that doesn't directly edit loot lists that contain these set items. Very likely, if you have other mods that do so, they are doing the same thing for more or less the same purpose, so it won't make any sense to use both.
You may have some entries from this mod in Bundled Text files in Script Merger, but they should auto-merge with basically everything.

You must give priority to my mod over Brothers in Arms.

Besides that, this mod edits these two files, respectively the entity for Quartermaster Egglebract and Loot layer in Vizima castle:

/quests/minor_quests/no_mans_land/quest_files/mq1051_monster_hunt_nilfgaard1/characters/mq1051_nilfgaard_officer.w2ent

/levels/wyzima_castle/wyzima_castle/loot.w2l

they are very specific, and it is unlikely that other mods are editing them, but if you don't see Nilfgaardian Gear or if you experience something strange in the bonus gear chest in Vizima Castle, you should check what is conflicting and decide what you want to give priority.
