A large extension of the Windhelm Docks east down the White River from the city including a Dunmer Shanty Town, ice market, crabbing market, East Empire Warehouse, Ancient Nordic Ruins, and many small details and easter eggs.

With the recent split from the Empire due to differing religious and political beliefs, Ulfric Stormcloak ordered his steward to invest in expanding the docks to increase trade and fund his war. Long forgotten ruins of grand ancient halls that once towered far above even the Palace of the Kings today were repurposed as lighthouses, watchtowers and walls. The great seawall that once supposedly stood as a defence against the Ghost Whales now serves to act as a bastion of solidity preventing any unsolicited ships from simply sailing up to land at Windhelm. Tolls are also collected to bolster the Stormcloak coffers and pay for the upkeep and further construction of the new port. 

Local people have also made use of the defended area with the fishing, hunting and crabbing industries now flourishing more than ever before. This increase in commerce encouraged the almost year-round ice market to set up on the thickest floes that form out in the Sea of Ghosts. There, all sorts of exotic and fantastical goods are peddled and the strangest and most wonderful aromas and sounds can be experienced. The ice sculptures seen around are carved in the image of Hjelpi, a local legend, a horse that fishes drowning children from the frigid waters lest they flounder away. The famous Nordic 'Ship-Shacks' are seen often at the market where beneath them lies all sorts of trinkets, odds and ends, that sort of thing.

Trade from Morrowind, Solstheim, High Rock and Cyrodiil has only grown with many new goods appearing at the port's warehouse daily. The port's walkways and nooks are filled with stories from across the continent and new faces to tell them.

But not all is thriving in Windhelm. Refugees from Morrowind escaping the events of the Red Year at first sought safety and a new life in the city, but as more arrived, tensions reached a boiling point. Arguments turned to fights and then to the eviction of many Dunmer from their homes. They were thrown outside the city wall, left to the beasts and the biting cold. And more turned up seeking refuge, but were denied and forced to camp beneath frayed fabrics and by paltry fires. Over time the small Shanty Town grew larger, nestled among the giant legs of Nordic ruins, and developed a reputation among local Nords as a reeking den of crime and poverty. But it also acts as a centre of Dunmer culture in Skyrim, and is fairly welcoming to those who have coin.

This mod started as a small idea of how I thought the Nords would have treated their new neighbours, but I couldn't find a mod that satisfied my thoughts. Capital Windhelm Expansion does add a small town, but not to the scale I wanted compared to its other additions to the city. So I decided to build on that initial concept, adapting my creation around CWE. I found the wonderful Beyond Skyrim Ship assets and Immersive Laundry and wanted to use them so them grew from there. It also acts as a gift to the community for all the great mods you have made. I want to keep working on this project and I will take suggestions of what to do with it, but I also may make other things. This was my first Creation Kit project and I now appreciate the struggles of modding, but want to continue.

This mod is intended to be used with Capital Windhelm Expansion, but will work fine without. Aside from minor landscape discrepancies, there should be no issues.

Mods which edit the nearby farms such as JK's Windhelm Outskirts and Northern Roads should be compatible.

Patches should be loaded in the order Patched Mod.esp, Windhelm Port.esp, Patch.esp unless otherwise stated.

Make sure you get the update file and if you find any issues, test them on a new game before reporting them.

Lastly, I recommend DK's Realistic Nord Ships and Immersive Laundry as our mods share assets and should complement each other. Make sure to load any retextures of those mods after this one so it doesn't get overwritten. 

Add-ons are small mods that work like a patch between this mod and another, but they don't solve conflicts, they just integrate the mods together and allow you to customise your port. All are inherently compatible with each other. Suggestions are welcome. Current add-ons available are:

If you have landscape problems, move this mod lower in your load order.
