REQUIEM - ALTERNATIVE DESCRIPTIONS

Description

Normally, when dealing with enchanted items, Skyrim takes magic effects contained in the object effect of the item, and adds descriptions together. That way you can easily add multiple effects, but the more you add, the worse description becomes (Arch-mage robes being prime example here). So, with that mod I try to change them to be more readable (and therefore more immersive ;)). Some inconsistencies found in Skyrim/Requiem files are things like base stats are sometimes capitalized, sometimes not. You can find "points of damage" and sometimes just "damage", also some weird word order (but I am not native speaker, so I wouldn't know for sure). I tried for descriptions to follow certain order when listing out buffs and consolidating them whenever possible (if more than 1 thing is increased by the same value, I list them together). Also, I got rid of "points" of damage, capitalization, where I felt there's too many buffs I consolidated them in the left pane of active effects (for example, you won't see 'Fortify <each magic school> when wearing Arch-mage robes, I just replaced it with "Reduce Spell Cost". So far I think I covered everything for base Requiem, it includes mostly effects applied on armors and spells. Oh, and I recommend using moreHUD Inventory Edition to make the description window larger.

Aside from fixing minor inconsistencies, this mod also fixes some inaccurate descriptions carried over from Skyrim.esm or Requiem.esp. For example, Requiem speechcraft alchemy bonus states that it's percentage based, but it increases speech by points. Or, General Tulius sword stating 20 elemental damage each, but it should be 30. Or, Red Eagle's Bane stating it makes the undead flee and sets them on fire, but the fire damage portion applies to any target and only fear is specific to the undead. One more important change, I believe, is including information that absorb/drain effects do not affect constructs, which is never mentioned in original descriptions. It starts to get more confusing when some effects don't have that restriction, but all are labeled the same. Can't blame Requiem for some of those, because they just simply use the same description often and only alter the effect. Looks like we can't assume that every Skyrim description is accurate.

Compatibility

NOT compatible with 3tweaks and addons for it. To be more specific, it alters descriptions of default effects, so if a mod changes magic effect I use (e. g. 3tweaks adds IsBlocking condition for poisons to apply), it won't work. Also it changes object effects for various items, so if 3tweaks changes values and enchants for artifact items, it won't work. You could simply try overwriting the mod with 3tweaks instead, but I have no idea what else could be broken if you do that. In theory it should work mostly, because if 3tweaks changes object effect of the item, or some magic effect, my edits simply won't apply. One issue I see is for items with multiple effects - as I have to use copies of original effects with blank description, some might apply original Requiem effect, even if you overwrite with 3tweaks - that's if original magic effect is changed, but affected items with multiple effects are not touched by 3tweaks (so my mod will use 'bad' version of original effect). Anyway, I might update it for 3tweaks in the future, for now next on my list is patch for Legacy of the Dragonborn.

Thanks

Special thanks to Fornication from Requiem discord server for suggestions, feedback, finding the bugs, and making the work a lot easier. Also, if you have suggestions or you find a typo, let me know and I'll take a look.

To do

    * Maybe spells descriptions, but I am not sure if they're bad;
    * Changing everything to second person (someday, maybe).
