A complete overhaul of the crafting system for Wearable Horns to make them more immersive and more usable.

Wearable Horns - SE has an amazing range of wearable horns, but it is almost impossible to craft horns in-game due to the enormous list of indistinguishable names. This patch fixes that by adding conditions, giving each horn a customised recipe, and moving the many, many variant versions out of the main crafting menu.

It also adds names and preview images - no need to randomly guess your way through different options - and adjusts the base values to something sane.

This mod was meant to be a simple patch for Tidier Crafting Menus, until I realised it needed a much more major overhaul than just adding a simple recipe condition or two. Adding a few conditions doesn't help when there are hundreds of indistinguishable items and they all use the same ingredients.

ESL flagged, it's just a recipe patch so it's safe to add to a new game or disable if you don't like the changes.

Less Menu Clutter
You now only craft the 'main' 50 designs directly, and then you can modify each one into its colour variants afterwards. Each recipe will only appear if you are carrying at least some of the materials to make it (not counting leather strips), as well as the book itself.

Better Recipes
The crafting book now requires 2 paper rolls and one piece of leather, instead of two leather. It's a book, not a magic item summoning pouch.

The horns now require actual horns, antlers, chitin, or tusks as ingredients, instead of just 'more leather'.  This is more immersive, and also gives you a better idea of the design you are crafting by looking at the ingredients, because the required ingredients will actually reflect the final design.

Conditions are added to all these recipes to help limit the menu clutter and available selections. If you aren't interested in certain types of horns, just drop those ingredients!

Named Horns - With Previews!
Each horn now has a descriptive name that actually tells you something about its appearance before you craft it. The base designs also have actual preview images.

(I might add the variant previews later, but I can't really feel my right hand anymore and that's a lot of copy-pasting).

Variant previews are now completed. Also my hand has fallen off forever.

Sensible Values
Horns are now worth approximately the sum of their ingredients, instead of 1000 gold each. These are meant to be cosmetic items, not economy/smithing XP cheese wheels. I also changed the keywords so they are no longer considered circlets or expensive jewellery.

Variants are worth 0 gold, to remove smithing XP temptation from infinitely crafting the same horns over and over.

Enchantments
You can now craft horn enchantment scrolls, while holding the book. Disenchant these scrolls to learn Fortify Block, Unarmed, Light Armour, and Speechcraft enchantments specifically for horns. Will you stab, block damage, or just look extra awesome? It's your choice!

not really tested because I started adding image previews instead and am burnt out on this for the moment

Modifying the crafted horns to create the colour variants

The 240 extra variants are available at the tanning rack by taking your new horns and modifying the main design into something new. No need to make 9 different colour versions of the same horns from scratch! Just make one once and change it later to suit your style.

You can re-make the original horns into any variant for that set, or convert each variant into the next one with new recipes (note: some horns only have a single version with no variants).

  • For the 'base into variant' recipes: specific variants will no longer be visible in the crafting menu if you already have that exact set of horns in your inventory - no accidental duplicates.
  • For the 'convert variants into other variants' recipes, you'll always be able to re-make the current variant into the next one so you won't get locked out of any options.
  • The variants no longer require the book to craft, so you can create a stash of originals to adapt later rather than having to carry the book around forever. This also means that if you drop the book, you'll only see the variant recipes for the horns you are carrying, rather than all possible horns.
