About this mod
Patches for VAE Reborn to update effects for vanilla Skyrim and weapon enchantment mods. Just throwing the first few patches up until I finish tidying up the rest.

Currently this page has some patches to update visual effects to use VAER's effects, I'll be adding more patches in future along with a proper FOMOD so it's easier to pick and choose what patch combination you actually want.
For now, you can download:
- Vanilla Shaders - use VAER visuals
- Thaumaturgy Shaders - VAER or Thaumaturgy colours
- Vestige Shaders - VAER or Vestige colours
- Reliquary of Myth - VAER or ROM colours
They will only change effects that already exist - if a weapon doesn't currently have an enchantment effect attached, it won't have one with these patches either, only existing visuals will change. Adding new effects requires a separate patch to which I refer you to the Enchantment Patches section. And a reminder that everything is very much a work in progress right now.
I'll also be moving all the VAER patches over from my giant mod dumping ground, along with several new patches, but I need to finish updating them all and I keep procrastinating on that. So I'm posting the finished (or 98% complete) patches for now so I can stop telling people 'oh yes, I fixed that, but you can't have it yet'.
Also I keep sleeping about three hours a night, my brain is not trustworthy with complicated patching decisions right now >.>
In future, you can use the standalone effect shader patches, or a full 'enchantment' patch to change the visuals attached to each magic effect.
For now, you can get standalone, conflict free (almost), patches for the visuals for Vestige, Thaumaturgy, and Vanilla. If you have a working VAER patch you are happy with, you don't need these. If you don't, or you want to reduce conflicts with magic effects and weapons, then these patches will help.
They do not change the enchantments themselves and will not conflict with any other weapon or enchantment patches.
A quick and easy way to update as many things as possible to VAER's visuals without conflicts.
Will not work for
Anything that changes the enchantment to point to a different visual effect that doesn't exist in the base game or the patched mod. Additional patches are required if you want to point to VAER's new, unique effects (e.g. for Harkon's sword), or recombine effects to work better for VAER.
Visual effects (art objects and effect shaders) are used by multiple magical things, so these patches may change the look of spells, armour, and random mod added effects.
All effects patches
- Safe to use with other VAER patches, some changes will just be a redundant or not called on by the other patch at all.
- Overwrites existing effect data with VAER effects.
- Requires VAER installed, but the ESP doesn't need to be active.
Vanilla
- Will automatically apply changes to mods that use vanilla effects without the need to specifically patch them.
- Not all of VAER effects exist in vanilla, you'll need the mod for new effects and custom changes it makes to enchantments (e.g. adding extra visuals)
- Mods vary widely in how many vanilla visuals they use, you may see no changes or only partial changes with some mods if you only use this patch.
Mod specific
- Updates each mod's new visual effects for weapons to use VAER's effects, similar to the Vanilla Effects patch.
- Does not touch vanilla effects (unless the mod specifically overwrites them, in which case you can load the vanilla patch before or after to get whatever result you want).
- Choose between VAER and the mod's original colour themes.
- Pair with the Vanilla Effects patch for a conflict free update to enchantments across the board.
pending updates, currently still over on my random patches page in the Updates section and the Sounds and Visual Effects FOMOD.
- Edit the enchantments themselves to add new unique effects from VAER
- Will conflict with anything else that edits enchantments
- Less generic, each item has specific visual effects
- Requires VAEReborn.esp as a master
Install and FAQ
Load order:
The visual effect patches can be loaded anywhere. Some mods may overwrite the same effects, you can choose which effects you want to win. They are not dependent on VAEReborn.esp and will not conflict with it.
The enchantment patches need to be loaded after their dependent mod. You probably want to overwrite VAEReborn as well (as it may conflict with some of the same enchantments) unless you want to keep those specific changes.
Several mods edit some vanilla shaders as well. If you don't like the effects you're getting and there isn't a specific patch for that mod, try swapping the vanilla patch and the unpatched mod around. Or use the vanilla shaders to overwrite the mod-coloured VAER patches, if you want to keep a few original colours and leave the rest to the mod.
Required:
You need VAE Reborn installed, even if it isn't a required master, as it has all the textures and effects. You do not need to use the .esp for most of these patches, but you do need to have its resources available in the data folder.
Specific Mod patches are needed for
- Thaumaturgy (current patch on the other page uses Thaumaturgy colours, use the standalone patch from this page to overwrite this if you want VAER colours).
- Summermyst.
- Vestige
- Reliquary of Myth
- Animated Armoury
Specific Mod patches will NOT be needed for
These VAER-dependent patches from my main patches page are not needed if you use the Vanilla Effects patch, but work fine and don't need updates if you want to use them.
- Chaos Dragons SSE
- Chaos Dragons Tweaks
- Deadly Dragons patches
- ROM + Harmful Spells Do Damage
- Vestige + Harmful Spells Do Damage
Compatibility:
The visual effect patches should be fully compatible with anything, aside from a few conflicts with other things that edit the same effect. The enchantment patches will conflict with anything that changes weapon enchantments, so need to be loaded last, or patched.
I don't have an paid CC content to test with and I'm far too poor to buy it just for a mod :D but these effect shaders should work for paid content, mods, anything that uses the same shaders.
Who even needs updated visuals anyway when you can just disappear with the Rings of Blink and Uncanny Dodge?

MORE MODS.
THAT I DID.
BY ME.
