Do you use any reshade preset? From the ENB itself the letterbox should be rendered dead last, so nothing should ever conflict with it. But reshade loads after enb and effects like bloom, or depth dependend effects like AO can mess up the letterbox.
the only reshade preset i use is the one bundled with ur mod. i do use Puredark's FSR 3 mod, not sure if that's causing the artifacts. i looked up online and there were old posts about Temporal AA messing with the letterboxing. will report back if i find a fix
Currently the Cinematic Border option is not appearing for me and I'd like to remove it. Is there a new trick to getting rid of it or an alternative/manual way?
Hi. Been using Nolvus for a week now and just trying out different ENBs. I loved Bjorn but it ate all my fps even on a high end system and PI-CHO had weird blue visuals. I'm trying yours as I saw it was pretty good looking, but I ran into a few problems. The screenshots on the mod page show fairly vibrant colors (yes I know it's more of a bleakish ENB which I'm cool with), but on mine everything is very greyish. Eyes like draugr and vampire also don't glow in the dark anymore. Fire effects also don't produce much light in the night/darkness (interiors work fine), only mage light spells.
Also, how would you make nights darker? Been playing with the tone mapper and adaptation to get the results, but I'm no expert. My monitor is calibrated properly so it comes down to software fx. Thank you for your work.
This just happened to me as well lol: https://imgur.com/a/KX4OQob
do you happen to be on the Nolvus DIscord? it is much easier to discuss there, especially in groups. and it is easier to share screenshots feel free to dm me on discord.
The overall performance of 0.2 is fantastic, the picture is harmonious and visually pleasing. The only drawback is that it seems that the image is overall grayish in sunny weather conditions (exterior only, day, test weather 81a), so it would be nice if that could be improved a bit. Thanks for the ENB, it's really great, and it's gold that always shines.
maybe it got a bit lost in all the change logs: the current version (0.2.0) misses out on the formerly typical "regional color variants". I am going to vacation soon and wanted to update at least the new lighting overhaul before that :)
Hello, Kynias. I'm starting a process of removing my old ENB and migrating to a new one, and regarding the new technogies in which you modders are offering. After analyzing some of these new ENB options, I've chosen yours due to the more neutral, darker tone provided to the filter. I usually try to avoid happier colorful ENBs.
But being an old veteran, I still use ELFX and not Lux Via. Will I still be able to use your ENB, Kynias? Thanks for uploading this mod for the community. :)
Hi maumanga :) My ENB is bzild in a way that sets things into relations to another. For example in the day ambientlight is always in a golden ration to the directlighting. That said, i think the interiors will be probably just fine. I just never tested it and probably never will. Btw Are you only talking about the interior lighting overhaul? iirc it had a weather overhaul too, and for exteriors i'd say NAT III is a must. But in the end... just rry it ^^ ENB presets are easy to seap after all
Well, I use ELFX for the lights in general (external and internal) because it already has a built-in weather system, paired with "True Storms". I see a lot of people talking about NAT, but never actually got to trying it myself.
The point of an ENB migration is basically because of shaders/cubemaps and compatibilities with the latest aspects the mod community has been offering. One of the modders from "Silent Horizons 2" personally presented your work to me, due to the fact my old ENB (Rembrandt) does not offer shader core integration into their mod.
One thing that I liked about Rembrandt was the fact it gave my Tamriel a feeling of cold weather, no matter the season. Less saturated tones, darker shadows, the whole package a dark-phantasy Souls-like fan would enjoy.
Can I achieve the same results with your Kauz? (by the way, I've already downloaded your mod, now I just gotta wait till I get home from work and have fun installing) :D
Wow then i am excited to see the results. A dark fantasy theme was the goal from the beginning for me. But i did not want to simply reduce the saturation to archieve this. Instead i came up with a duality system for colors which moves everything to opposite directions. SH2 enables me to set these opposite colors to be unique for every weather. Oh and btw if you didnt notice from the mod description: i am a big fan of the Nolvus modlist. If you want a nice modded game, and actually play it lol, you can install it and slap my ENB on it
Yeeeeah........... you see, that's where it gets kind of weird, because I've built my modlist based on research and personal choices, not Nolvus. Add to the fact that I'm an old veteran Skyrim player who's returning to the game after some good 4~5 years away, and you'll understand why I went for the same old mods again (Skyrim Flora Overhaul being a single example). THis is what we had available back then, and its my fault that I have installed the same thing once more, instead of doing some extra research to understand what are the best and latest releases from the community. T__T
Now I'm left with a load order with some 450+ mods and MANY of them were already installed taking into consideration these old mods and their patches, so, the spider web is vast... can't touch anything... definately cannot REMOVE anything... so I'm unable to un-install ELFX because its "FOMOD-Rooted" deep across many different mods...
Maybe during my next playthrough I shall remove EVERYTHING and finally install separate mods for nature and weather overhauls. This was my mistake, and now I gotta deal with this Frankenstein of a Load Order I got here, hahaha. XD
Well, I got two questions for you, if you have a moment:
1) Question about removing a previously installed ENB and adding yours. You have explained on the main page how to do it, how to move the .DDL files and delete folders such as "enbseries" and "cache", but, what about the file enbseries.ini left in the main game folder? Should that go as well? Will a new one be generated once I load my game?
2) Your page description says: "Install my files like any other ENB directly into the Stock Game folder, replacing some of the SH2 files." Now, what would Stock Game folder be?
In any case, I'll let you know later how things turned out. Maybe even bring pictures. :) Take care.
I'm back with news: everything worked fine with installing your ENB. :) I'm just seeing if I can tweak some aspects from the GUI in regards of brightness, because wow... the sun glare washed-out all the colours. As I am not an expert in navigating ENB options, I gotta go through each menu to test and calibrate to see results, and that is taking some time (specially seeing my computer is not all that good, so my graphics card screams loudly whenever I start bending and twisting values for each part).
But its the right path, at least. If I ever need to load the DEFAULT values from your ENB and start from scratch, is there a way I can do that?
I know that spider web very well, and i want to let you know that nolvus is a fantastical solution to this ;D but enough if that.
Messing with the values one after the other is a surprisingly good way to learn how ENB works. Make mistakes and learn from them you know? If you want to revert just re-install my files and you will have a new base. My next update will have a much healthier way of handling saturation and contrast, so maybe you like the sun glare more in the upcoming 0.2.0 version. After i uploaded that i finally want to tackle an article about ENB values, maybe that will help you too :)
Your ENB is coming out great. I feel like a sculptor adjusting each ENB value separately. Since my last written message I've taken to watching some Youtube videos explaining about the basics of tweaking an ENB GUI menu, so I believe I'm in the right path now. :)
Thank you for taking some time and explaining these points to me. Valuable info, for sure.
Do you mind if I ask you one last thing? After doing some research and finding different answers regarding a specific detail from the ENB, I am still not sure how to activate a specific effect seen on modded Skyrim gameplays:
The grass collision. You know, when you walk on grass and it parts way, like folding leaves around you? Is that an option built within the ENB itself, or do I still need to install another mod (maybe "Complex Grass for ENB") for that effect?
this effect should work on its own if you have up to date enb binaries. it depends on the effect complex grass though, which needs specially made textures to look right.
I see. Well, as mentioned before, I do use "Skyrim Flora Overhaul" and they do happen to have an add-on for ENBs regarding the collision effect. Maybe I'll try that out.
I'm finally getting up to a point where I am happy with the colour adjustments of your ENB. Don't worry, I haven't touched the shaders window of the GUI, because I don't want to lose the ambience your ENB provides which is beautiful by itself.
And you know, just out of curiosity, I found a minor problem regarding ELFX which led me to research and find a patch to fix. Remove Interior Fog for ELFXEnhancer SSE was the name. It caused interiors to have deep bright fogs during the day, no matter where you walked, and it was quite annoying. But that was resolved.
Today I'm coming to you seeking guidance to enhance SPELL lights from our Player hands. You know the coloured balls of light we hold? Or when conjuring a "Bound Sword" for example? In my game, these spells have washed-out colours, not as bright as they were meant to.
Could you please tell me which tab should I look for within your ENB menus in order to tweak it? Thanks a lot!
Hi, The elfx fix is nice to know. Maybe someone else using elfx will read this and get that info.
Well the magic effects in the hands is a bit difficult. At least in Nolvus they react to the [Particle] settings Direct- and AmbientLightInfluence. Which does not make any sense if you ask me, since they should not be something that react to light but emit it instead. In the next update (0.2.0, coming in a few days) they are brighter :)
The exteriors look absolutely amazing, even at nighttime, which is quite the feat since so many ENBs fail at nighttime. The interiors are good during the day if they have time of day lighting. But in interiors at nighttime, and in dungeons in general, it becomes a bit of a gameplay hinderance because it's too dark. I don't think it needs to be much brighter, because I don't think you should have perfect vision in areas that have little to no light either.
It seems like almost all of the ENBs released over the past year have been on the clear and vibrant side, so presets like this are a breath of fresh air. I'm going for a darker tone for my new playthrough and this suits it perfectly. I hope you keeping working on this!
One of the better enb's i have used , would like a option for a good dof designed for 3rd person and a option for static is that something you would be willing to look into ? Im playing on a LG c3 oled with nvidia hdr the shadow detail and brightness looks really good on this enb
I had a DoF in the first release but abandoned it since the shader was outdated. SH2 Core will have a DoF shader sooner or later as far as i know and i am willing to wait patiently. Actually you could just rip the DoF of other ENBs and put it into the enbseries folder. Some work on their own and dont need additional files.
thats what im gonna do in the meantime then gotta look around since lot of newer enbs use martys dof which i dislike , good to know tho that sh2 will have one more then likely at some point
I'm loving the influx of SH2 Shader Core based ENBs recently. This one is rather nice. It's somber, and reminiscent of LE's ever popular The Grim and Somber ENBS collection. I did a short playthrough with it, just enough to get a decent look at the different regions of Skyrim. My biggest-and really only-critique is the excessive darkness that plagues interiors. I assume its a stylistic choice made by the author based on the FAQ, but similar to its contemporaries like Amon ENB that also go for a darker aesthetic, it suffers from hiding a lot of eye-candy behind darkness. The clearest example of this is if you are ever to spend time in a tavern such as The Bannered Mare during evening hours. It gets too dark to navigate a confined space like that. This becomes a bigger issue when playing in thirdperson. Its a far-cry from the visual clarity that popular ENBs like Cabbage/Pi-Cho etc. bring to the table. This can be mitigated by editing the preset to your liking, or installing the brighter lighting templates with Lux (haven't experimented with that, but if it lends good results I'll update this comment later).
Overall, a good ENB. I hope the author continues to update it, as the mixture of immersive atmosphere, and nostalgia for the LE days was very welcome. Shines in exteriors, falls apart somewhat in interiors. Makes for very good dramatic gameplay. I didn't touch on this earlier, but the darkness does add a bit of extra challenge to stealth gameplay. NPCs can see you the same as other NAT III ENBs, so often you will be detected by an NPC you can't see yourself. Whether this is a positive or a negative is up to the user. I recommend mixing it with mods that fill Skyrim with extra Civil War aftermath / battlefields. I think the ENB compliments the grimmer war-time atmosphere well.
Similar to consider: Amon, Rudy, NAT III ENB, Ruvaak Dahmaan
Thanks a lot for the detailed description of your experience. I am currently reworking the brightness settings of both the in- and exterior because the "this is a dark fantasy setting, it has to be dark" mentality definitly crossed a line somewhere. In future updates i will try to get a dark fantasy ambience mainly by chosen colors while the brightness settings a more gameplay oriented. I still want it to be dark, so i aim at "as dark as possible without sucking up detail"
