About this mod

Two standalone male followers with their own special abilities, tailored for end-game. Uses vanilla voice.

Permissions and credits
Reason for making this: spite. Skyrim Nexus has way too many big-boobied brainless mega-horny-always-ready-for-sex-only-download-for-ostim-scenes-BHUNPCBBEAUABCDEF waifus and too little decent-looking dudes that can actually fight.

Decided to make two of my lifelong original characters--Oris and Fanris--into Skyrim followers. If you followed me on my old tumblr you might know them already.

Appearance: using Charmers of the Reach assets, all textures are standalone and included (except for some eye bits, see technical details). Body meshes will use whatever mesh you have installed though. Face textures and sculpts are edited with care. These dudes are not your typical ultra mega perfect handsome husbandos--expect a squinty right eye, a crooked smile, slight wrinkles, scars, burn marks, uneven eyebrows, etc.

Combat: They use their own classes and combat styles to better match how I envision their combat prowess to be (to the best of Skyrim AI's capability anyway). Each of them has one unique ability each, extensively playtested. They might not be very versatile (Oris is a tank and can't be an archer, Fanris is an archer and can't be a tank...), but that's the way I like it. Essential and levels up indefinitely.

Starting locations: For better compatibility with Shattered/Alternate Skyrim, I've placed them inside dungeon interiors and given them packages to travel/sandbox to different places. This can get wonky though--they might get stuck somewhere especially if you're playing with town overhaul mods that edit navmesh. I recommend something like Where Are You? to easily and painlessly locate them both.

Other things: For convenience reasons, they both have Lightfoot and start out in crappy clothes/gear so you can dress and kit them with whatever equipment you want. Uses vanilla voice, marriagable, allied with each other to minimize friendly fire.

But who are the followers, you might ask?

An unusual elf with little fashion sense, an amateur singer, and a Daedra unlucky enough to have his conscience bound with his own master's after a ritual gone wrong, Oris travels Skyrim in search of his own past. He might be woefully unequipped in social situations, but a huge claymore to the neck is all he needs, anyway. He has a soft spot for deadly flowers and chocolate muffins.

Oris prefers equipment on the heavier side--heavy armor, a huge claymore as mentioned, etc--though he can make use of light armor and smaller weapons as well. His attacks are aggressive and loud (blocking is for suckers), and he might just dual-wield two swords if given the opportunity. He doesn't like bows or staves.

Oris turns pain to his own advantage. When below certain health thresholds, he gains bonus armor rating and reflects damage back to his enemies. What doesn't kill him makes him stronger and angrier, after all.

He can initially be found at Reachwind Eyrie, after which he'll travel to different locations in the Reach, and hangs around Karthwasten at the end of the day. If you can't find him anywhere, just go to Karthwasten and wait a few hours. (You might also occasionally see him get 'stuck' on the side of the road, don't worry about it.)

Fanris has been all over Tamriel, he would say, although most of it was running from bad luck. Having his tribe razed in front of his eyes at age 17, chased out of Cyrodiil at age 20 by the Thalmor, got sold into shady business dealings in High Rock at age 23... and returned to Cyrodiil only to find his one and only Nibenese friend had disappeared altogether. Weary, he turned his eyes towards Skyrim.

You'll never hear any of it from him, though. He'll offer you a grin, some archery tips, and a bottle of Honningbrew mead instead.

In battle, Fanris prefers to keep it light and simple--move often, stay as far away as possible from the enemy, distract them with resurrected corpses while he turns them into angry pincushions. What he lacks in melee proficiency he makes up for in his talent at DIY necromancy--the young elf has a morbid fascination with summoning the souls of animal companions inside the body of his fallen victims. He can also heal himself in a pinch.

Fanris has no interest in playing fair. His arrows are always poisoned (or enchanted, take your pick), chipping away at the victim's stamina, armor rating, and magic resistance per shot.

He can initially be found inside Skybound Watch, after which he'll travel and stay at Angi's camp. If you can't find him there, try catching him at Falkreath cemetery at night. (If he's stuck inside Skybound Watch forever, you probably have some mod that edits navmesh OR Skyrim is being wonky again. Check the dungeon first, then check the camp, then Falkreath cemetery at night.)

Questions someone will probably ask in the future:

- I don't like this, I don't like that. Don't use this mod then.

- But dude, they're UGLY! Hey, you take that back! (But seriously, I prefer distinct character designs over standardized prettiness.)

- But dude, they're not lore-friendly! (insert nitpicks about lore here) Don't use this mod then.

- Black face bug! They're completely new NPCs, I can't imagine what kind of mod would give them black face bug. Do tell if such mod exists though.

This is also your daily reminder to not use Face Discoloration Fix if their faces somehow get borked. I didn't package any mesh assets from Charmers of the Reach or KS Hairdos, only the tri files. Don't mess with their face sculpt in CK either--I used Racemenu and Nifskope to adjust their faces, not the vanilla sliders.

- I can't find either of them!/Their AI package is borked and they're stuck somewhere! Use Where Are You? to teleport them to your location.

- What's the exact specifics of their abilities anyway?

Oris: What Doesn't Kill You (+100 armor rating when below 75% health, +200 AR when below 50% health, +300 AR when below 25% health. Reflect 50% of incoming damage back to attacker when below 50% health, which grows to 100% when below 25% health. Take care not to accidentally hit him in this state.)

Fanris: Cheap Shots (-5 points of damage to stamina, armor rating, and magic resistance to enemies per shot. Stacks. Enemies will not recover from the debuff, except for stamina maybe. Player and teammates should be immune. Note that it doesn't have to be from arrows--his melee attacks, punches, and even hostile spells can deliver the 'poison'. I tried restricting it to bow and arrows only but when I did that, the perk didn't want to work. So yeah.

And yes, this does make it so that most of his resurrected corpses are already weakened by his shots. He has the perk Dark Souls to mitigate this somewhat.)

- What kind of names are those, "Oris" and "Fanris"? Blame my 15 year old self for that. It's been more than a decade and I still haven't found the heart to change their names.

- Can you turn them into fancy standalone custom-voiced followers at some point? Nope, can't be arsed (there's a version of this mod with custom voices ripped from other video games--ICBA with permission stuff so this version is using vanilla voices).

- Any other inane yammerings you want to include here? Honestly, this mod is more of a personal backup rather than an actual something I thought other people would find a use of. It doesn't have the bells and whistles of a fancy custom-voiced full personality follower, nor the sex appeal of a big-boobied only-download-for-ostim-scenes waifu follower. But it's mine, and I'm more than a little proud of it.

If you read this far and do decide to take any of these dudes to your Skyrim adventures, I hope you have fun! Take care of the boys, or not; once they arrive to your load order it's out of my hands. Marry them, have them carry your junk, shag them with mods, fus ro dah them off of High Hrothgar, whatever.

Technical details: Face and body textures saved with BC7 compression. Everything else saved with BC3.
Diffuse textures for eyes are standalone, the rest (normal, cubemap) use your installed textures. In my screenshots, I'm using BnP - Eye Overhaul.
Known issue: Oris' forehead might clip with some (if not most) hair wigs.
They have custom races with their own racial abilities. Mods that overhaul races won't affect them.
