Description

This mod adresses some NPCs in the College of Winterhold that would normally fall under the criteria of BUVARP SE RE.

Originally I wanted to add these NPCs to BUVARP SE RE. However, since it heavily edits the College of Winterhold quest, I decided to make it standalone.

In short, this mod does the following:

  • You can save Savos and/or Mirabelle from dying. This gives several rewards.
  • You can heal Gavros for a reward.
  • Estormo is present at the college, from the start.
  • Muril has been added in the same way as Estormo.

Saving Savos and/or Mirabelle

At the end of Revealing the Unseen Savos and Mirabelle get killed by an explosion caused by Ancano.

With this mod you can prevent either or both of them from their abrupt and untimely demise.

How to save Savos:
Spoiler:
Show

At the end of Revealing the Unseen, Savos will approach Ancano at the Eye of Magnus. He will say: "Ancano, stop this at once." and Mirabelle will respond: "Don't go near him!" and you'll see a big flash of light.
If at that point, you're near Savos and casting a Ward spell, you'll meet the conditions for him to be "saved". Narrative-wise, Ancano will teleport him to a pocket dimension instead.

How to save Mirabelle:
Spoiler:
Show

At the end of Revealing the Unseen, after been blown away by Ancano, Mirabelle will be leaning near a pillar asking you to find the Arch-Mage. If at that point, you cast a Healing spell (like Healing Hands, Heal Other or Grand healing) on her, you'll meet the conditions for her to be "saved".
After you have been to Winterhold, you'll need to go back to her and after that, she would normally be gone and no longer being seen in Vanilla. Narrative-wise, if you saved her, she'll try to stop Ancano off-screen, but Ancano will also put her in a pocket dimension.

After you've killed Ancano, the following outcomes are possible.

1. You've saved Savos. Results:
Spoiler:
Show

  • Savos will exit the pocket dimension as soon as the Eye has been teleported away.
  • Savos will remain Arch-Mage.
  • You can confront Savos about his actions in Labyrinthian.
  • You get 1 voucher for private lessons at the College.

2. You've saved Mirabelle. Results:
Spoiler:
Show

  • Mirabelle will exit the pocket dimension as soon as the Eye has been teleported away.
  • Mirabelle will become Arch-Mage.
  • You get 1 voucher for private lessons at the College.

3. You've saved both Mirabelle and Savos. Results:
Spoiler:
Show

  • Savos and Mirabelle will exit the pocket dimension as soon as the Eye has been teleported away.
  • Savos will remain Arch-Mage.
  • You can confront Savos about his actions in Labyrinthian.
  • You can persuade Mirabelle to become a follower. A level of 50 in speech is needed to persuade her. If you're level is too low initially you can reattempt it later. Having her as a follower requires Missing Follower Dialogue Edit.
  • You get 2 vouchers for private lessons at the College.

Rewards:
Spoiler:
Show

You can redeem vouchers at a teacher in the College. They will grant a huge amount of experience in their assigned school of magic + an extra item from this school of magic. This passes 6 ingame hours.

Saving Gavros

At the start of Revealing the Unseen, when you just entered Mzulft, you'll come across a dying Synod Mage, called Gavros Plinius.

How to save Gavros:
Spoiler:
Show

If you cast a Healing spell on him before he has finished saying the line, "Crystal.... gone... *coughing* Find... Paratus... in Oculory...", he'll be "saved".

The following outcome will happen if you save him:
Spoiler:
Show

He'll stand up and thank you for saving him. After which he will explain that he no longer wants to stay in Mzulft. He'll give you his research log, the key to the Mzulft and your reward, after which he runs off.

Reward:
Spoiler:
Show

A leveled amount of gold and a high level Destruction staff.

Estormo and Muril

Estormo and Muril are present at the College from the start. They'll follow Ancano and sandbox on the 1st floor of the Hall of Attainment.

You can talk to them, but they won't like you.

Later on, when you're about to leave Labyinthian, you will ecnounter both Estormo and Muril, and have to fight them. They will have a letter (status update) from Ancano.

This letter will reveal some more secrets:
Spoiler:
Show

It will explain what Ancano did to Savos and/or Mirabelle.

Compatibility

It is imperative that my script edits overwrite all scripts from the mods mentioned above.

Known Issues

I was unable to fully test all of the patches, since each of them would require their own playthrough and I am unable to commit that amount of time to test these patches. Please report any issues you may find.

Due to the nature of editing the College of Winterhold questline, there may be some more incompatible mods. (This is the main reason that I keep this mod seperate from the main BUVARP SE RE mod.)

As of v2.0 and this mod no longer editing quests records directly (for compatibility), the quest journal will still state the player becomes Arch-Mage, even if they saved Savos and/or Mirabelle.

FAQ

Q: Why did you release this as a seperate mod and not make it part of the main BUVARP SE RE mod?
A: As these tweaks heavily edit the College of Winterhold questline and the patches are numerous (pretty much any mod for the college of Winterhold is incompatible, unless proven to be compatible), I decided to make it a standalone mod. Otherwise the amount of patches for BUVARP SE RE on its own would become too numerous. I will probably do the same thing for other BUVARP-like edits to other major questlines.

Q: ESPFE?
A: Yes.

Q: Does installing/updating/uninstalling on an existing save work?
A: As far as I know, it should. However, it's good practice to keep a backup save prior to doing this, just in case.

Q: Is this compatible with <insert mod>?
A: I don't know by heart. You might need to check yourself.

Q: Will you make a patch for <insert mod>?
A: Only if it's a mod I use myself or plan on using, I have enough time and I actually like the idea. Otherwise, I'm done making patches, but feel free to do it yourself. (see permissions)

Q: I have a suggestion to improve the mod. Can you do it?
A: Maybe, if I have time and I like the idea, I'll consider it.

Q: Will you port this to <insert platform>?
A: No, I myself only support the Steam and GOG English SE and AE versions of Skyrim. If someone else wants to port it, feel free. (see permission) If you decide to port it, you yourself take full responsibility to offer support to said port. I will not provide no support for any ports by third parties.

Q: I use a ported version of this mod on <insert platform> and I have a problem. Can you help?
A: I don't provide any support for third party ports on other platforms than the Steam and GOG English SE and AE versions of Skyrim. If you have issues, you should adress the person that ported it.

Q: Does this work on Skyrim 1.6+, aka "Anniversary Edition"?
A: Yes, it should.

Q: Why don't your mods use MCMs and instead use this janky console command system to set globals?
A: I am not a fan of MCMs. You can set the globals by making a patch in xEdit. I have no plans of changing this. If you want to add an MCM, feel free. (see permissions)

Q: Why don't you use FOMODs?
A: That would require reuploading the entire mod, in question, even if I only make a small change. My internet is limited and reuploading the files each time will take a huge chunk of my monthly volume.
