In vanilla, carrying a bounty doesn’t feel like it means much—you can stroll into town with $300 on your head (over $11,000 in 1899 money) and face little to no consequence. Towns are safe havens that restricts bounty hunters from going after you. They patiently wait and only show up only after you had some restful sleep out in the wilderness. With this mod, that all changes. Bounty hunters will now track you relentlessly anywhere you're wanted, forcing you to either pay your dues or stay ready for a fight.
In vanilla, getting arrested is barely an inconvenience—you pay your fine and walk free with all your gear. This mod changes that too. Now, getting caught has real consequences. Bounty hunters may strip you of your weapons during arrest, and lawmen might take them from you as well and won’t be so kind as to return them. This added layer of punishment ensures that getting arrested will carry weight.
Every day you're still alive and free but a wanted man, your bounty amount increases.
This mod is disabled during missions.
[General]
- Your bounty amount now reflects the type of bounty hunters (or would-be bounty hunters) going after you with specific loadouts, mounts, and behaviors
- Bounty hunters tend to use dogs to track you (most are just defensive of their owners or tend to run away depending on breed and randomization)
- Bounty hunters do not have any boundaries, some are not afraid to attack you in town, or even the main camp
- Bounty hunters will cross state lines if they are actively chasing you even if you do not have a bounty on a different state
- Chances of different bounty groups or lawmen to hunt you down as your bounty increases
- You may lose your weapons and ammo during arrests -- so be mindful what you have as this is irreversible!
- Your bounty increase each day as long as you remain with an active bounty on your head.
- Reinforcements may be called once you're spotted by a bounty hunter.
[Customization]
There is an INI file which allows you to customize pretty much everything to your preferences.
- MinInGameHoursBeforeSpawn - Sets the minimum number of in-game hours that must pass after the last bounty hunter encounter before a another can occur (cooldown). Must be at least 1 or it will break.
- MaxInGameHoursBeforeForcedSpawn - Sets a hard cap on the delay between bounty hunter encounters. After this many hours, it will force bounty hunters to come. This must be a higher number than MinInGameHoursBeforeSpawn or it will break. Place this at an extremely high numbers if your want it off (e.g. 99999), but there is a high chance you will not see any bounty hunters (it is not recommended to set it too high). **
- RemoveWeaponsOnArrest - When set to true, most weapons are stripped from the player after they are arrested. For a much more realistic and hardcore playthrough. Warning: I'm not responsible for losing your favorite guns! **
- RemoveAmmoOnArrest - When set to true, all ammo are stripped from the player after they are arrested.
- EnableBountyDogs - Allows bounty hunters to sometimes bring tracking dogs with them during encounters. They usually are just used for tracking and not considered another enemy! Although, some breeds do defend their owners. For the dog lovers who don't want them caught in the crossfire, you can set this to false to disable! (Note: This does not affect the bounty dog hounds that are used by vanilla bounty hunters)
- BountyIncreasePerDay - Controls how much in cents the player's bounty increases every in-game day if the bounty is not paid. (e.g. 100 = $1.00) Set to 0 to disable this feature.
- ReinforcementChance - Percent probability reinforcement shows up when you encounter a bounty hunter group. Set to 0 to disable this feature. Must not be over 100 or it will break.
- DisableVanillaBountyHunters - When set to true, Rockstar's bounty hunters will not spawn and you will be relying solely on this mod. **
- AllowDispatchBackUp - When set to true, there is a chance that bounty hunter groups are working with dispatched groups in the area.
1.0.5 Update
- RemoveWeaponsOnDeath - When set to true, most weapons are stripped from the player after they die. For a much more realistic and hardcore playthrough. Warning: I'm not responsible for losing your favorite guns! **
RemoveAmmoOnDeath - When set to true, all ammo are stripped from the player after they die.

[Miscellaneous Information]
- I highly recommend using my Rededrunk's Realistic Law Dispatch Response or the 1907 Edition with this mod as I worked on this as a supplemental add-on or second part of my law overhaul. You can still use this mod as a standalone with vanilla dispatch or other law mods, but just note that there may be a lot more bounty hunters at certain times. This is because it still works in conjunction to the default bounty hunter system. I recommend only to set DisableVanillaBountyHunters to false if you are (1) using my dispatch mods and (2) would like to have a much more aggressive law presence!
- I recommend disabling the minimap to allow potential bounty hunters to retain the element of surprise and enhance immersion!
- Regarding "MaxInGameHoursBeforeForcedSpawn", this setting controls the maximum in-game hours that can pass before the game guarantees a bounty hunter group will come. Think of it as a safety net: if no bounty hunters have shown up after this much time, the mod will force a group to come. Now, you can technically disable this by setting it to something huge (like 99999), but that’s not recommended unless you understand the side effects. Bounty hunters normally spawn at a random time between MinInGameHoursBeforeSpawn and MaxInGameHoursBeforeForcedSpawn. So, if you set that upper limit super high, the randomly chosen time might end up being thousands of in-game hours in the future. That means you could go a very long time without seeing any bounty hunters at all.
- Warning: Please back up your save if you are enabling RemoveWeaponsOnArrest as your weapons will be permanently stripped from you during arrests.
- This does not touch the hard cap of the bounty amount set by vanilla. If you do not know how this works, there are caps in the bounty amount in vanilla determined by your progress in the main story. The maximum bounty limit increases at the start of every chapter, eventually capping out at $1500 by the epilogue. I have not found a way to bypass this limit.
