Project Sicario Merger (PSM)

Project Sicario Merger (PSM) is an experimental new way of building and merging mods for Project Wingman: now available locally on your PC. PSM can build a merged mod on your machine from presets, Sicario patches, PSM-compatible skin mods and even other merged mods, all with less compatibility issues and less downloads required.

If you've used Project Sicario before, PSM is (to really oversimplify it) the same basic functionality of Sicario, but running on your own PC. That means it can take the same patches available in the app (in the form of presets, more on that below) to merge otherwise incompatible mods together into one that the game can load. Since it's on your PC, PSM can load files directly from the game's install, and can adapt to PSM-compatible mods that you have installed.

You can find the latest update information in the changelog.

Getting started with PSM

If you are using Vortex, follow the Vortex instructions. If you are installing manually (i.e. not using Vortex), follow the manual instructions.

Vortex

Vortex (with WingVortex 0.2.1+) has integrated support for merging mods with PSM. Just install PSM from Nexus Mods like any other mod, enable it and then turn on the PSM integration in Settings > Interface. Vortex will automatically run PSM after each deploy and manage your merged mod like any other mod in your mods list.

Manual Installation
While its definitely easier to use with Vortex, you can still use PSM manually as well. Download the archive above then extract the ProjectSicario.exe
inside. You can actually have the merger "installed" wherever you like, but we recommend installing it to your game's install folder. Once it's in place, double-click the app file to run with the default options and it should create your merged mod.

About PSM

How does it work?

At its core, PSM does the same thing that the regular Project Sicario app does, but entirely on your PC. That means it loads a set of instructions (patches) and then applies them to the vanilla game files (extracted directly from your install) and creates a new mod with the specified changes applied. Since it's local, PSM can load patches and presets directly from your install as well as re-creating any other Sicario-built mods you have installed.

After it's finished building, PSM will output a single mod file with the combined result of all the merged mods it loaded either as a new mod in your Mods list (for Vortex) or directly to the game folder (for manual users). Either way, you should now be able to launch your game and assuming no other mod overwrites your merged patch, you should be good to go. Note that you can still use non-PSM-compatible mods, but they can't modify the same game files.

What can PSM do?

At a minimum, PSM can do everything that the Project Sicario app can do, but on your own PC. Running locally means that PSM has a few other tricks:
  • Automatically add new skin slots to planes based on your installed PSM-compatible mods!
  • Merge all your installed mods/presets at once into a single file
  • Automatically includes changes from other Sicario-compatible mods you have installed
Being local to your PC means you can also include any patches you install to your game folder, not just the ones available on the Project Sicario app.

What's a Sicario preset?

A preset file is a simple (and small) file that doesn't contain any actual modified game files, but is basically a list of instructions for PSM of what values to change in the game files. On it's own a preset doesn't do anything as the game doesn't know how to load them. So instead we use Project Sicario Merger (PSM) that can load these presets and apply the changes they include to make a single merged mod the game can load.

Currently the best place to start with building a preset is the Project Sicario Builder.

Can I mix-and-match mods with PSM?

Yes and no. You can install as many presets as you want, and PSM will just run them in order. If you have other Sicario-built mods installed, PSM will do its best to merge those as well. However if you have other non-Sicario-compatible mods installed, you'll need to ensure they're not modifying any of the same files that your merged mod does.

What about skins?
Some skins may either require PSM or provide different downloads of the skin for Sicario users. The reason for this is simple: PSM can dynamically create new skin slots for aircraft during the merge process so that you are no longer limited by the number of skin slots an aircraft has. However, the skins have to be packed correctly to take advantage of this feature, so only PSM-compatible skins can do this. Other skins will still work, they are just limited to replacing existing skin slots.

Can I still use the mods on the Project Sicario Builder?
Yes! Put together your merged build just as you usually would, but rather than build the merged mod file, click the new Save Preset button. This will download your selections as a pre-built preset file so that PSM can easily build the mod, no extra downloads or rebuilds required. You can install the preset with Vortex, or just drop it in your mods folder.
