Description

Water Bottling? Completed it mate.

As the name suggests, Universal Water Bottling adds a truly universal, lightweight, and compatible system for filling empty bottles from any water source, even ones added by other mods. This is a cut-down and vanilla-style re-implementation of the same feature provided in Water Overhaul. I say "vanilla-style" since this mod adds no new items nor edits any existing forms.

Usage

Usage is simple. Hover your crosshair over a water source—a sink, a puddle, a lake, whatever—and press the grab key. You will be provided with a prompt asking how many bottles you want to fill. Use the slider to select the number, hit OK, and you'll fill the bottles with water.

No new water types have been added (except one optional), so the type of bottled water you get from a source will be determined from the radiation level of the water. The three possible water types are: Purified Water (see Unclean Water section below), Dirty Water, or Irradiated Water.

An additional Mass Purified Water recipe has been added to allow you to purify Irradiated Water, although the conversion rate is slightly lower than for Dirty Water.

Canteens

This mod also adds an optional expandable water canteen system (enabled by default). I haven't added any new canteens, so obviously this only covers the Vault 13 Canteen from the Couriers Stash DLC. However, other modders can easily add new canteens (see the Compatibility Section).

If enabled, pressing the grab key on a water source will first fill all your empty water canteens. You can then use the key on the water source again to fill any empty bottles. Drinking any kind of bottled water will return the empty canteen so that you can fill it repeatedly. The default behaviour of the Vault 13 Canteen will also be disabled if you use this option.

Optionally, you can enable an option which only allows canteens to be filled, and disables the ability to fill empty bottles. This is probably the most balanced way to play this mod in all honesty, and means you can effectively just use it as a replacement for the vanilla Vault 13 Canteen feature if you wanted.

Unclean Water

This feature is enabled by default, and aims to balance the abundance of radiation-free water in the Mojave. All unclean bottled water items have an "Unclean" effect, which causes -1 END for a short period just like raw food effects. Instead of getting Purified Water from radiation-free water sources, you get a new Clear Water item. The effects of Clear Water will match those of Purified Water, except that it also has the "Unclean" effect. This means you can't just collect all the bottles at Goodsprings Source and mass-produce Purified Water.

You can purify Clear Water using the vanilla Mass Purified Water recipe at a 1:1 conversion rate.

If this option is disabled, you will get Purified Water from clean water sources instead.

Note:

You will not receive bottles from drinking items. I had to think this one over for a while, but I decided this was the most 'vanilla' approach, despite the logical inconsistency. In the vanilla game, you don't receive bottles from drinking any items, even from water crafted using the Cactus Water recipe, which actually requires a bottle to craft. This approach also helps to somewhat balance your ability to mass-produce water. I found that if I started to address these sorts of logical inconsistencies, I would just drift towards completely recreating Water Overhaul and its universal bottle system.

If you want to receive vanilla empty bottles from drinking items, I recommend you use Food Scraps.

If you want a more comprehensive set of water related balance changes, please check out Water Overhaul.

Oh, by the way, this mod also changes the prompt for all water appliances from "Activate" to "Drink".

Installation

This mod requires the following:

Standard installation procedure: add the file to your data folder and check in the game launcher or your mod manager of choice. Load wherever.

Uninstallation

This mod can be safety uninstalled at any time and will have no permanent effects on your game. Just delete the file and you're good to go.

Customisation

This mod can be customised with the INI file included in the download. Instructions are provided in the file. If you want to default the options, just delete the INI and a new one will be generated.

Compatibility

This mod changes no vanilla forms whatsoever and is conflict-free.

Tale of Two Wastelands is supported without the need for a patch. The purified or poisoned Tidal Basin water will provide Aqua Pura if bottled. There's a slight inconsistency that means you won't be able to give Clear Water to a water beggar, but since you can't give some vanilla types of water to them either this hardly seems worth making a patch for. Aqua Cura and Holy Water also won't have the "Unclean" effect, but this can be explained away by saying that they really do have special properties 0_o. Again, it's not really worth having an extra patch in your load order for, since the items are only available in specific locations and situations.

Any changes to the stats of Purified Water are reflected in the stats of Clear Water automatically. You do not need a patch to use this mod alongside any mod that edits Purified Water, including (but not limited to) JSawyer Ultimate Edition. The water stat fix from Tale of Two Wastelands is also automatically added to Clear Water (this is different to the fix in Unofficial Patch NVSE Plus, which uses a scripted method and doesn't need any extra changes).

Here's the process for adding support for new canteens (this is aimed at mod authors or FNVEdit enthusiasts). The canteen would preferably be a misc item and you need to create two versions of it: an empty version and a full version, which would also preferably have a weight of zero for consistency. The empty version should be added to
NVBottleFillCanteenEmptyLIST [FomID xx002BEE] and the full version should be added to NVBottleFillCanteenFullLIST [FormID xx002BED]. Make sure they have the same index in both lists. That's all you need to do.

I don't recommend merging this mod (or any of my mods for that matter), as it will look for its INI file by finding one with a matching name.
