About this mod
Begin your game not as a prisoner, but as a banished heir to the Morrowind throne.
Start inside the Royal Palace of Mournhold — a child of scandal, cast out by your father, King Helseth.

Start your character at the Mournhold Royal Palace as the banished heir to the Morrowind throne. Instead of the boat at Seyda Neen, you are King Helseth's illegitimate child, raised in secret as part of the royal household. Your mother died many years ago, and only a few people knew of your sheltered existence.
You have stolen something valuable to the king, and in a fit of rage, he writes to the Emperor, deciding whether to banish or execute you. To his surprise, Uriel Septim responds with instructions that you are to be sent to Balmora to seek out Caius Cosades. With no reason to object, Helseth writes you a note and sends his servant, Effe-Tei, to deliver the news of your banishment and escort you to Vvardenfell. This is where your adventure begins, at the moment of your departure.
Disowned by your father, he coldly reminds you that nobody knows who you were anyway. Thus, you are thrust out into the world with no skills or experience to guide you. You are weak, broke, despised as a foreigner, and just another criminal with uncertain origins trying to survive. Only through completing the Tribunal main quest can you regain the king’s trust and your birthright as the 'princeps almalexia' — the Prince or Princess of Mournhold.
Unique dialogue has been added for King Helseth, Queen Barenziah, Plitinius Mero, Vivec, Almalexia, and Delitian. These changes are subtle throughout the Tribunal main quest, so you may not notice them immediately. However, by the end, Barenziah will recognize you as her grandchild and Helseth will address you as Prince or Princess %PCName.
Royal Chargen is intended for players who have already played Morrowind, and ideally Tribunal, at least once before. The new chargen scripts do not include any tutorials.
This mod departs from the original "outsider" story — the classic tale of a foreign-born, nameless criminal arriving by boat — and ruins its original charm. Yet, if you've played through Morrowind more than five times, you might be ready for a change. Now, instead of the familiar boat scene, your character's story brings intrigue and complexity akin to Game of Thrones, with a touch of royal drama.

What's new?
In this revision, the core narrative has been preserved, but all other changes have been removed, making the mod fully compatible with any other mods that alter the palace and Mournhold.
To improve the mod's integration, several small adjustments have been made. For example, Effe-Tei no longer teleports the player to Seyda Neen on request. Why Seyda Neen? It never made sense. Now, players can teleport to any major city for a fee.
According to "Notes on Racial Phylogeny," I’ve made the beast races unplayable in the main version — though they’re still available in a separate, non-lore-friendly plugin. You’ll find both versions in the archive: one for purists, and one with the beast races left intact. I kept that variant because myths and legends aren’t entirely void of such tales — maybe it was Daedric influence, or some obscure magic. Who knows.
Additionally, vanilla dialogues referencing the player's arrival by boat have been modified to better fit the revised narrative and avoid breaking immersion in this new scenario.
Great Alternatives You Should Also Try:
If you're looking for even more options to choose from, you might want to try Merlord's Character Backgrounds and Chargen Scenarios.
Or, if you're after something truly unusual, Main Quest for Divayth Fyr lets you bypass most of the main storyline. In this version, you begin as a clone crafted by the infamous Telvanni wizard himself.
These mods are not compatible with Royal Chargen, but they offer unique approaches to character creation — with alternative starts, additional traits, and unconventional scenarios you can find yourself in from the very beginning. If you're after more depth and variety, they’re definitely worth checking out.

Chargen Mods That Fit
- Ahead of the Classes and Class Description Tooltip – Dozens of classes to choose from, with starting equipment and spells.
- Class Conscious or Dynamic Class Images – For custom class creation, or to disable it altogether.
- Class Starting Spells and Experienced Start – If you want to begin with some experience.
- Randomised Chargen and MWSE Character Creation Name Generator – For a more varied and randomized experience. Get a random race, gender, appearance, and name — let fate decide who you are.
- Vampire and Werewolf Character Generation – Lets you start with Porphyric Hemophilia or Sanies Lupinus, or gain it upon loading the game. Imagine being tortured by such a creature in Helseth’s dungeon. Blood, birthright, and beasts — you decide which one rules you.
Narrative-Fitting Mods
- Early Transport to Mournhold – Allows travel to Mournhold before the Dark Brotherhood attacks begin.
- Expansion Delay – Fixes Bethesda’s overly eager expansion hooks by delaying the Dark Brotherhood attacks (Tribunal) and limiting intrusive dialogue topics to a few NPCs (Bloodmoon).
NPC Mods That Fit Well
- Julan, Ashlander Companion – A BioWare-style companion mod with tons of dialogue and a rich questline. Julan will react if the player is revealed to be the heir to the throne.
- Dras the Dunmer Legionnaire – A semi-companion character previously written by me, featuring his own questline and complex moral choices. Like Julan, Dras acknowledges your royal background — if you choose to share it.
- Mournhold Courtiers – Adds nobles and servants to the royal palace, so it no longer feels so empty.
- Fancy Barenziah or Royal Barenziah – Gives the Queen Mother a more fitting and regal appearance.
Mournhold Overhaul
- Immersive Mournhold – A mod by RandomPal that significantly enhances the palace and Mournhold, maintaining a perfect balance of vanilla charm and elegance.
- Almalexia's Chamber Overhaul – Overhaul of the High Chapel in Mournhold, where the player can meet with the Lady of Mercy Almalexia.
- Mournhold Palace Revamped – My edit is still compatible with the old palace overhaul plugin, but it now needs to be downloaded and activated separately. This allows the player to receive their own chambers in the palace after being acknowledged. Not compatible with any mods that alter palace interiors.
- Mountains of Mournhold – Adds a mountainous landscape behind the walls of Mournhold.
