Introduction
If you like the Dark Brotherhood like I do, then you might have also been disappointed when finding out that you could not join them in the vanilla game. To Serve Sithis by Emyn allows you to join them, and does a great job telling an enticing narrative, but for me it was too Oblivion-esque and did not fit with the rest of the Morrowind factions. Thus, after many months of writing and exercising every ability I have learned in modding, I created the Vvardenfell Brotherhood: A mod that allows you to join the Dark Brotherhood on Vvardenfell, in a semi lore-friendly (it expands lore) and enticing story, that stays true to the vanilla vision.
This is not just a Dark Brotherhood mod. Hence why it was not titled as such. It also encompasses the faction of the Cult of Mehrunes Dagon, because of the alliance established between the two, in vanilla Morrowind lore. The questline is non-linear, it has multiple variables, arcs, and plots, all intertwining at once. This is where this mod differs itself from vanilla Morrowind’s factions. The story is not as simple as “destroy the traitors within." The Vvardenfell Brotherhood is chaotic, but fulfilling.
Features - Begin by asking for the latest rumors in Gnisis or Ald Velothi OR by following the Morag Tong questline.
- 30 new quests.
- 50+ new NPCs.
- Multiple endings.
- An awesome villain.
- A new joinable faction.
- Opportunities to roleplay.
- 30,000+ words of new dialogue.
- Several easter eggs and references.
- New lore that fits seamlessly with vanilla.
- Populated and cluttered shrines to Mehrunes Dagon.
Requirements and Compatibility
Greetings for No Lore is a soft requirement, since I did not wish to add multiple greetings to all fifty plus NPCs. You can use this mod without it, but get ready to see the same three greetings on every miscellaneous NPC.
This mod is *unlikely* to be compatible with:
- Mods that overhaul shrines to Mehrunes Dagon. *Indoranyon is okay.
- Some LGNPC mods, as this modifies dialogue for some vanilla NPCs.
- Mods that add hostile NPCs to dungeons, because certain Daedric Shrines are made ‘tame’ when the player joins the Vvardenfell Brotherhood faction.
Extensions and Alternatives
Zelazko has created a compatibility bridge patch for this mod and To Serve Sithis so that you can have the best of both as well as the opportunity to playthrough both mod questlines. I highly recommend checking out the patch if this interests you. You can find it here.
There is another alternative called Join the Dark Brotherhood by DD4n. This mod is seemingly even more purist friendly than my own. Vvardenfell Brotherhood differs especially by having an overarching plot and references to future games (so it's anthological rather than purist). So if you prefer vanilla storytelling conventions, you should definitely check DD4n's mod out too.
