DRAGONSLAYER LORE

The Battle of Pangolian Fields during the Fourth Succession War became an eye opener for Federated Sun Command. The fast and manoeuvrable lances of Dragons were able to quickly flank and overwhelm Federated Suns fire support lances of Centurions and Enforcers, tying them up in melee combat and quickly dispatching them with superior weight and armour It became evident that a solution was required. While attempts to create a mech that could outmatch the range, speed, durability and firepower of the dragon were unsuccessful, it was decided that matching range with superior firepower would be sufficient. The new mech, christened the DSY-001 Dragonslayer would live on for the remainder of the Fourth Succession War as a huge success at its intended role.

While the speed of the Dragonslayer would remain average for a 70-ton chassis at 64kph, its long reach would more than make up for this. A pair of LRM10s mounted deep in each side torso, each with a dedicated ton of ammo, already allow it to outperform the Dragon at long range. A PPC in the right arm firmly cements its superiority. The trio of weapons giving it similar, if less consistent firepower to the venerable awesome. Sixteen heat sinks allow it to make full use of its long-range firepower sparingly so long as the pilot is disciplined enough to leave one of the weapons out every other volley. Thirteen tons of armour arranged in a 22/7, 33/10 configuration for torsos, 21/28 for arms and legs respectively and full head protection, ensure that this mech will come out on top
should a Dragon pilot decide to engage in physical combat, the superior weight of the mech only adding its advantage. To address the apparent weakness of the minimum range of its primary armament, the trio of medium lasers, two in the left arm and one in the centre torso, also allow it to outperform the Dragon within shorter distance where the Dragon itself will be at a similar disadvantage.

The success of the DSY-001 would lead the AFFS to look towards it once again to deal with another popular Combine problem. Even after the re-discovery of lost forgotten tech, the Jenner continued to be a mayor nuisance to AFFS forces, the Dragonslayer would once again be up to the task. The chassis upgraded to use re-discovered technologies itself, the base now utilizes an Endo-Steel skeleton, while the engine has been upgraded to an XL model allowing the mech
to reach speeds up to 81kph. The entirety of its energy armament now replaced with a battery of pulse lasers allow it to accurately hit the nimble Jenner. The sacrifice in range not being perceived as a big concern given that its intended prey often needs to get within shorter distances itself to be effective. A Large Pulse Laser sits in the right arm, while two Medium Pulse Lasers are now in the left. The centre medium laser now also of the pulse variety, accompanied by a
fourth one in the head. The new laser now facing towards the rear to ensure that its prey will not be safe by trying to exploit a blind spot. To make room for all these upgrades one of the LRMs had to be sacrificed but an Artemis IV FCS is now integrated into the remaining one to make its shots somewhat make up for the loss. To keep up with its quarry in difficult terrain, 5 Jump Jets have also been added to the chassis. The armour fortunately, remains consistent. Thirteen
double heat sinks do an adequate job at handling the heat as long as the pilot is careful.

The DSY-002 was met with mixed reception. Some Commanders questioned the strategic value of dedicating such a large platform to “squirrel” hunting duties,
while other Commanders swore by it. Those who took favour to the platform, often citing that its job was not to chase the Jenner but to create an effective bubble of area denial, its speed allowing it to reposition to assist allies quickly from would-be head-hunters. Regardless of the general perception, more than one Longbow and Cyclops pilot owe their lives to their dutiful DSY-002 escorts against Jenners who thought they would land the coup-de-grace on wounded prey.

The Clan invasion would see the Dragonslayerface-off against a different rival. While desperate to supply support to their Lyran half of the kingdom, AFFS Command demanded for a mech that could stand up to the Clan’s fearsome speed and firepower. A mech conceived to address a similar issue in the past, the
Dragonslayer became a natural choice. A symbol of one who stands against an opponent much bigger and fearsome to stand triumphant. Re-engineering the Dragonslayer to face against a clan mech would prove a much more difficult task than it had been to design a mech to stand up to the Dragon however, it would take a different approach.

The DSY-003 and DSY-004 rose to the occasion. Whilethey would not be able to stand up to a clan mech in typical Zellbrigen combat outside of the hands of the most skill full pilots, these two mechs were created to stand side by side and exploit the clan honour system. Far too often would over-eager clan warriors
engage two seemingly inferior mechs in their quest for glory. And when working together, the DSY-003 and DSY-004 would often prove more than a match.

Designed to punch holes at ranges that could somewhat match the clans, the DSY-003 steps forward with the return of the PPC to the right arm now upgraded to an ER version. The missile launchers of the original DSY-001 now carry twin Thunderbolt-10 for a more concentrated punch. The original lasers also upgraded to a trio of ER Medium Lasers. While bearing an XL engine, it returns to the speed profile of the original model at 64kph and loses the jump jets of the previous model. CASE in each side torso ensure that this significant investment is salvageable in the case of an ammo explosion. The armour placement remains unchanged providing close to maximum protection. Fifteen double heat sinks keep the mech cool for a while provided that the pilot uses adequate
bracket fire and keeps his eyes away from the alpha strike button.

Creator Notes

Dragonslayer is a collaborative fan creation between me and my friend, the stats where created using Battletech table top rules, I was tasked with creating the 3D art work and adding it to Mechwarrior 5. The mod comes with 9 Variants, 6 Standard and 3 Hero, it comes with custom weapon models and weapon animations (recoiling & rotating barrels). It also has 9 Factions patterns and 17 generic patterns loosely resembling Vanilla patterns the mechs are introduced over time during the campaign, it should appear as an enemy mech and on the market during the campaign.

The lore and stats where created by my friend who goes by the name of Wildkadbra, big thanks to her for this fun and interesting mech I had the oppertunity to design. Please be aware that this was originally created for the Table Top using Mega Mek lab, all statistics listed in the lroe corelate to the board game stats.

Dragonslayer Features
  • 9 Variants, 6 Standard, 3 Hero.
  • 26 Patterns, 9 Faction, 17 Generic.
