TLDR


  • All the features of the original mod are still entirely intact, nothing has been removed. Additionally, all the meshes have been tweaked and remapped where necessary for more stability and better compatibility, specifically with mods like Glowing Eyes For Deathclaws by dpillari in mind.

  • The number of meshes to choose from has been increased from 4 to 13, with brand new custom meshes from the immensely talented creators Hopper31and jaggedjoshart.

  • This mod now has full support for Deadlier Deathclaws by MPankey. New mythic deathclaw varieties will now get their own customizable unique mesh and texture, making mythic deathclaws distinct even from each other!


Summary

The Mythic Deathclaw is the most powerful variety of deathclaw in the game, and yet the devs thought it wise to just give it the same mesh and texture as the lowest leveled varieties in the game. In other words, while there are badass looking deathclaws out there, like the Alphas and Matriarchs, a level 300+ Mythic Deathclaw will look identical to the stunted deathclaw you killed in Concord at the beginning of the game.

This mod remedies this oversight by enabling full visual customization of the meshes and textures of the mythic deathclaw.

Features

In the order that the fomod presents:

  • A selection of six textures are included. Four of them were originally created by jimshu for Detailed Deathclaws, and then subsequently tweaked and tailored by ma1025 specifically for use as unique replacement textures for mythic deathclaws. 2K and 4K options are available. The fifth skin option is the  World Eater Alduin skin, obtained from the World Eater (Alduin) Deathclaw Texture Pack by Assathoth. The fifth is the Plutonium skin, taken with permission from the Plutonium Creatures mod by Hopper31. The Plutonium Deathclaw mesh has been added as well.

  • Version 1.3 introduces the ability to customize the texture for every variety of Mythic Deathclaw individually, making textures and textural differences much more viable for this mod. As of 1.3, the base game Mythic Deathclaw, Mythic Alpha Deathclaw, Mythic Matriarch Deathclaw, and Mythic Savage Deathclaw can all have unique customizable textures in addition to unique meshes. Currently the Mythic Chameleon, Albino, and Glowing Deathclaw do not have texture options, but the framework exists for them to, I'm currently acquiring the right options.
 
  • A selection of thirteen meshes, four of which were curated for the original mod by ma1025, five custom built by Hopper31, and four more made in the New Vegas style by jaggedjoshart. They comprise of the vanilla Alpha, Savage, Matriarch, and Regular mesh, and the custom made Aku, Alpha Prime, Jester, Hookclaw, Plutonium, CDR Alpha, CDR Matriarch, CDR Regular, and CDR Savage meshes. For examples of these meshes and textures check out the images tab.

  • Of note, perhaps more important than the included textures and meshes is that this mod serves as a template for using and implementing your own meshes and textures. It's literally as easy as overwriting any of them afterwards with any options you need, and the mythic deathclaws will display it. In fact, this mod originally started as something like that, just overwriting meshes and textures, until it eventually became too big and the scope too far reaching to simply be a patch.

  • Wasteland Workshop compatibility, so that the tamed/caged Mythic Deathclaws from the DLC will match the look of the wild Unique Mythic Deathclaw. Completely optional.

  • Deadlier Deathclaws compatibility, for enabling customization of the new Mythic Deathclaw varieties added by DD. They are the Mythic Albino, Mythic Chameleon, Mythic Alpha, Mythic Glowing Deathclaw, Mythic Matriarch, and Mythic Savage. Each one of these varieties has its own customization options, making it so that there can be several different unique varieties of Mythic Deathclaw in game. I HIGHLY recommend using Deadlier Deathclaws with UMDR, as it further increases and intensifies the stated goals of this mod, however it is also completely optional.

Compatibility and Recommended Mods

Deadlier Deathclaws - EXTREMELY RECOMENDED. One of the core functionalities of this mod is how well it meshes with DD, and how well that mod expands the scope of this one. I honestly consider the DD compatibility to be the primary feature of this mod.

Glowing Eyes For Deathclaws - The meshes for UMDR were specifically tweaked to account for Glowing Eyes. What it essentially does is replace the basic deathclaw material file so that is uses an additional glow texture for the eyes branch of the NIF file. All of the mythic meshes have specifically kept the eye material as vanilla in order to be compatible with this fantastically moody mod from the talented dpillari.

Any mod that changes deathclaw NPC records will probably require a patch. That patch could be super small and easy, or it could be huge and an actual nightmare to create. It is highly recommended to check with FO4edit to make sure that everything is playing nice. As a general rule of thumb, nothing should be changing the deathclaw race, and nothing should be overwriting the skin (WNAM).

Future Plans

This mod is far from done, I am currently planning on several big changes that will hopefully be done soon.

I'd like to add several more textures, hopefully to get the number up to at least ten options, minus 2K and 4K distinctions.

I would really like to add customizable skin options for Albino, Glowing, and Chameleon mythics, who for the moment are using vanilla textures. The framework exists to do so, its more just a matter of getting the right textures and obtaining permissions.

I also have plans to make a patch for More Deathclaw Variety by Hopper31. The mod already contains a workaround for the vanilla mythic deathclaw by simply having several different types of mythic deathclaw, each with their own model. They don't have unique textures though, so there's still potential there. Additionally, the expansion patch "Even More Deathclaw Variety" doesn't have any workaround whatsoever, and is a prime contender for the UMDR treatment.

I'm also toying around with an idea for a Deathclaw Armory patch. Essentially my idea is that some mythic deathclaws could optionally spawn with power armor, plain and simple. However it is a very far out idea, and honestly is so far removed technically that it might just end up its own mod. I would really appreciate any input on what to do for a deathclaw power armor spawn mod in the comments. Specifically like who gets what, levels, other minutia!

Currently the mod has full support for Glowing Eyes for Deathclaws, but there is a companion mod to that one called Glowing Eyes For Deathclaws - With Variants by PhuPham83 that is seriously cool and adds some additional diversity to the glowing eyes of deathclaws. At the moment it doesn't add any of its effects to the current mythic deathclaws however, but with some tweaking these deathclaws should be able to benefit from it! (Seriously, the savage deathclaws get a single glowing red eye on the "good" side of their face, how badass is that?)

And lastly I will continue bug fixing and updating this mod for quality purposes. One issue that I would like to fix is that the Mythic Chameleon Deathclaw from DD currently only supports the four vanilla meshes and a single CDR mesh. My attempts at implementing the other custom made meshes have so far been fruitless, but I'll continue searching for solutions.
