Siggi's Tav Voice 8 Dark Urge Point-and-Click Dialogue Fixer
So, I played 600 hours on the Dark Urge using Tav voice 8. Then, I used a different voice on accident for my 5th playthrough or so… and heard something weird.
My dark urge just said 'a fine day for murder.'
As I kept playing, I realized that The Dark Urge is supposed to have unique point-and-click dialogue lines just like the rest of the origin companions in the game, but for some reason, Voice 8 is missing any unique lines.
I did some digging and found that all of the Dark Urge’s unique lines were recorded by Larian, but they never appear in game. I reached out to the devs and they weren't even sure why this was an issue and that they've been working on correcting it for a bit.
This mod fixes that! Now you can enjoy Tina Barnes’ fantastic delivery on the Dark Urge dialogue in all your Voice 8 Durge runs. This mod works by overwriting a portion of the existing standard Tav dialogue with the Dark Urge audio by saving them in the game’s data folder using the same filenames. This removes a small portion of the Tav dialogue, but I made sure to overwrite only the dialogue that I felt made the most sense for Durge not to say. There’s also a couple bonuses - a couple altered spell verbal components and a couple extra lines that aren’t actually dark urge lines, but I felt they fit extremely well given Barnes’ aggressive performance. If Tav voice 5 is a cold, calculating, Shakespearean Durge Sorcerer/rogue, voice 8 definitely has Barbarian Durge vibes.
Here's a demo showcasing the voice changes!
HOW DOES THIS MOD WORK?
This mod works by taking the Durge voice lines found in Localization->Voices and renaming them to match the voice lines intended to be replaced in SharedSounds. By loading them in your data folder, these new sounds play in place of the old ones. This is how you change point and click dialogue!
Note - this mod isn’t intended to be a 1:1 recreation of all Dark Urge dialogue. As mentioned above, I changed a couple lines and added some extra stuff just because 1) I liked it 2) I thought it fit perfectly. I’ll come back in the near future and release my closest 1:1 recreation shortly but for now I want to polish this version of the release first before moving on to that. So, don’t be surprised when your Durge is especially screamey-shoutey-angry while playing - I did that on purpose.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Manual install only - DO NOT INSTALL USING VORTEX. These files need to be dropped into your data folder.
Manually install the .zip
Unzip the file
Take the Public folder and drop it directly into your Baldur’s Gate 3 -> data folder
Enjoy new dialogue!
I’m not sure if this can be installed using BG3MM. I haven’t tried but I don’t think it can be until I figure out how to compile this as a .pak.
UNINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Locate the folder you dropped directly into the data folder.
Ensure that the only thing inside is a directory leading to a bunch of .wem files. They should all be named a bunch of random numbers (10072648.wem is what they should look like)
As long as there’s nothing else in that file directory, just remove it from your data folder.
If there’s additional stuff in that folder aside from those lines, just take the folder containing the .wems out of the directory.
KNOWN ISSUES
This mod will change the point and click lines for anyone and everyone using voice 8, regardless of whether you choose the Dark Urge origin. As far as I’m aware, there is no way to fix this unless Larian releases mod tools that allow me to edit the Voices.bnk file directly to attach the Dark Urge voice lines to the Voice 8 Bank. So, make sure that you uninstall before you play a Tav with voice 8, and if you’re playing multiplayer, be aware that everyone using voice 8 will hear Dark Urge lines.
This mod replaces a bunch of Tav point and click lines. Sorry, no getting around it unless Larian releases the tool mentioned above. I’d love to create a non-replacer version of this if a tool like that comes out though :)
Planned Updates
add more variety to PWK Verbals
Locate 2 missing Dark Urge lines
Add more personal lines
With author permission, add custom lines to the spells in Bhaalist Class
SPECIAL THANKS TO:
SatanModding for taking an interest in this project when I started it in Down by the River, teaching me how to convert the Voices.bnk to a workable XML, and then teaching me how to stage the files in the Data folder.
samosas1 for creating their sound mods which taught me a lot about how sound works in BG3’s code
Tealrabbit19 for publishing a list of all the point and click lines sorted! I was losing stream halfway through working on this mod, then they popped into the channel with that tool. SO much help. Cut down 2 weeks of digging through the XML haystack into just two hours of listening to .wems.
