  • The Custom Animations and Stats and Perk Progression of Daumbra

    Summary:

While Daumbra's new features (hoverboard, javelin throw, etc) are tied to story progression, her perks are tied to your player level. This article details when you get what, and it also has a reference for what each DAR folder does, in case you wish to customize her animations.

    Stats:

Her class is CombatWarrior2H, she levels at 1.1 the rate of the character, and her level range is 1 through 100.

She has health and stamina offsets of 50 points each, but the stat that matters the most by far is Two-Handed, as she's a two-handed sword. That starts at 65, and reaches 100 as early as level 17!

Her damage per second starts at 19, but gains a fifth of your level (i.e. by level 50, it's become 29). This may not seem like much,...

  • Walkthrough and Troubleshooting

Skyrim modding is wonderful because of the way different mods can synergize together. This also means mods can interfere with one another in negative ways too. The following is meant to help you troubleshoot any issues you may be having, so that I get to spend more of my time building Chapter III:

    GENERAL

    What could go wrong:

    Map is purple

    Probable cause:

You have a mod that changes the map.
    What to do about it:

Make your map mod load after this mod.

    CHAPTER I

    There is no Umbra:

    To start the quest:

Find the "There is no Umbra" book in common loot, or on Farengar's desk.
    What could go wrong:

Book is not showing up in common loot.

  • The Many Endings of Daumbra

    Needless to say, spoilers ahead!

I just want to quickly outline off the top of my head the various endings available in the mod. The intention is not to have many endings just for their own sake, but rather to reflect what I believe are valid player choices. If you feel the story is reflecting your choices, then you feel ownership over it. That feeling of ownership sort of gives you "permission" to become emotionally invested in the outcomes, and that's really the golden goal I'm after -to make people *care*. In order to give a damn, you have to have true choices in front of you.

So here we go, the list of endings:

Quest 1: There is no Umbra:

1: If, after reading his journal, you believe Ulves was right in trying to kill Daumbra befo...

  • The Journal of Elyssa

Below is the journal of Elyssa, a Breton orphan enslaved by a vampire who used her to retrieve the pages of the Book of Curses. In her search for escape, she found a book that spoke of a sword named Daumbra. The earlier pages are lost.

    ---Last Seed, 27th, 4E 201—

Ever since I read that book, I’ve become preoccupied with the idea of finding Daumbra: the reforged version of Umbra, who drove many to madness.
What is insanity in the face of slavery? As I languish in my cage, I'm all too aware of my frailty. Too feeble to break free. Too weak to resist. I sit in my chains, waiting for Master to scry the location of the final page while the command spell branded in my scarred skin aches.

Perhaps I can bargain. Out of his thralls, I am the most usefu...

  • The Summon Spell

A mini-manual of her summon mechanics:

The summon spell has various uses depending on context:

Before you complete the second quest, it simply summons her to you. This will work every time.
After you complete the second quest, if you have one free hand, it summons her directly into your hand as a weapon. This combines beautifully with her javelin mechanic. Throw, retrieve, throw, retrieve.
If she is in the middle of a fight you think she can't win, summoning her to you will make her temporarily flee for a few seconds.
If she was already defeated, summoning her to you will revive her.
If she is currently mind-controlling an enemy who picked her up off the ground, summoning her to you will make her instantly kill her wielder, then port...
